You could sum it up in three words – value, experience and quality.
We’re talking sheer jaw-dropping value, without any reduction in
levels of luxury, or any corner-cutting. We only use 4 and 5-star
ships. In fact, we use the same ships, with the same staff, the
same menus, the same service, the same itineraries as companies who
charge much higher rates. So how do we do it at the prices we
offer? Well, for one thing, we offer optional tours. This gives you
the choice of doing what you want to do. This brings the price
down. We never forget that a river cruise is a river cruise. As you
may know, many well-known river cruise companies charge over £2000
per person for a week on rivers such as the Rhône! For that money
you could buy an ocean-going luxury cruise visiting several
countries for two weeks! We offer, on all the cruises we sell, not
just the best value, but often the lowest prices you can find
anywhere. We work hard to do this. In fact we often go beyond the
call of duty by seeking out all sorts of add-ons and other
attractions to help you get the most from your time and money. We
wouldn’t send you on a cruise we wouldn’t go on ourselves! Cruises
that are not good enough for us are
not good enough for you. Value is in our blood. There’ll never ever
be anything cheap about us. But there’ll always be something
fantastically inexpensive. That’s why we say, our prices are the
best kept secret in the cruising world! That brings us on to
experience. We sail most of the major cruising rivers of Europe.
The Rhine, Rhone, Seine, Danube, Moselle, Douro. Many of our
cruises are exclusive charters. We accompany many of the cruises,
often organising our own tours and providing our own evening
musical entertainment. On many of our cruises we specialise in top
UK entertainment onboard, with the Cruise In Band and guest
musicians, something unheard of in the river cruise industry.
Sometimes we even bring on speciality music from the region we’re
sailing through - as if 4, 5, or 6 of the best UK musicians isn’t
enough! What other river cruise line could dream of supplying all
this? And all on 4 and 5-star ships. Value, experience, quality,
and personal attention to detail. That’s why we call ourselves Your
Personal Cruise Consultancy. Now, let’s direct you to some of the
superb, unique and wonderful value river cruise offers you’ll find
in the following pages.

Dear Friends, Welcome to our new dedicated Cruise In River Cruise
brochure for 2011/12. It gives me great pleasure to introduce many
of you for the first time to our own world of river cruising. It’s
not a stuffy world. It’s fun. You’re certain to go home from one of
our river cruises having not only enjoyed the experience, but with
a host of new-found friends for life! Of the cruises featured in
this brochure, I have personally experienced many of the ships and
many of the itineraries. Which itineraries are best, I hear you
ask. There’s no straight answer. They’re all very different. Let me
expand on those I have done. The Rhine is a long, working river and
it is busy year round with commercial traffic. It flows through
industrial areas especially on the river section between Amsterdam
and Dusseldorf. The ultimate Rhine, for me, begins at Dusseldorf or
Cologne and goes fully upstream to Basel
in Switzerland. I go time and time again! My favourite towns and
villages are Bonn, Königswinter, Rudesheim, Braubach, Strasbourg
and obviously Basel to name a few. Then there’s the Douro River, in
Portugal. Peaceful, fascinating, interesting, hot and above all
relaxing. I’ve cruised it twice, once on the beautiful new Douro
Cruiser and once on Invicta, a smaller, homely, older vessel. There
are highlights you’ll never forget: dinner at the Alpendurada
Monastery; atmospheric Pinhao; the Vintage House Hotel. And of
course the tours and excursions. A short cruise of 4-nights is
perfect time to see the whole of the navigable river. That’s a
bonus, because you can spend 3 nights in Porto or Lisbon to make a
week of it. You’ll love every minute. To me, 7 nights overall is
just a wonderful experience. Porto is superb. Lisbon is large and
amazing. So what else? I’ve done Venice on city-breaks and sea
cruises but never on a river vessel around the lagoon. If I stayed
there in a hotel for 4 nights would I be able to do full board
including wine with meals on £600 per person? No! When I do the
Rhone in August 2011 I’ll tell you what it was like but I’m sure it
will be marvellous! And what can I say about a Paris cruise at
Christmas time? I’ll always go to Paris because every season tells
a different story! While you enjoy taking one of our cruises, no
doubt we will be looking for more exciting things to do later in
2012 and 2013! All of us at Cruise In look forward to greeting you
onboard one of our charters in the near future. Welcome to the
world of Cruise In! CLIff ReDgRAVe, DIReCTOR

THE BEAUTIFUL DOURO RIVER VALLEY 4 NIGHTS ON 5-STAR DOURO
CRUISER
10, 17 JULY • 7 AUGUST 2011
PORTO • BITETOS • REGUA • PINHAO • BARCA d’ALVA REGUA • PORTO
Four nights on the River Douro is the perfect length of cruise for
this river. The Douro rises near Madrid and flows westward across
Spain and northern Portugal to the Atlantic. The river valley is
exceptionally beautiful. Rambling vineyards and charming native
farms called quintas, cling to the steep sides of the valley
creating an incomparable backdrop to one of Europe’s most unspoiled
regions. Though it is the third longest river of the Iberian
Peninsula, the Douro is only navigable in Portugal between Peso da
Régua and Porto. This means any cruise longer than four days, a
conventional week for example, means you find yourself filling
time. In fact, Porto, the beautiful ‘City of Bridges’ with its
heritage-designated medieval city centre, is so fascinating that it
repays a longer stay in the city itself – see the next page for
more details. A word about the name Porto. There is often confusion
between the names Porto and Oporto. In Portuguese, the city is
written with a definite article as, ‘o Porto’. The English
translation of this is, ‘the port’. As a result, the city became
known in English as Oporto. But its proper name in English, is
Porto. So, having travelled to Porto in the morning we check in at
the Vila Nova de Gaia Quay and embark at 14.00 on
to the Douro Cruiser. There will be welcome drinks and we’ll sail
to Bitetos, our first stop. In the evening we’ll dine on
traditional local fare at the beautiful Alpendurada Monastery, with
its breathtaking views of the valley below. We’ll no doubt taste
some of the wonderful local wines from nearby vineyards. Including
of course, port, ‘the world’s finest fortified wine’. Returning to
the ship we overnight on board at Bitetos. The following day we
sail to the peaceful town of Régua. Backed by the spectacular Serra
do Marão mountains and overlooking the river valley, the town is
the official centre of the port wine region. From here an optional
tour may be taken to Lamego, a delightful baroque town with a
central square laid out as a public garden and surrounded by
elegant 17th-century buildings. In the afternoon we sail to Pinhao
where we overnight. The following day there’s an optional tour to
the Mateus Palace. We say optional, but it’s really a must! We sail
on to Barca d’Alva for a Portuguese barbecue and live folk music.
Next day we return to Regua where we’ll overnight. The following
morning we return to Porto for disembarkation and to say farewell
to the Douro, one of Europe’s most beautiful ‘secrets’.

PORTO
Lisbon The alpha city of Lisbon is absolutely beautiful. An alpha,
or global city, as you probably know is one deemed important to the
global economy. Lisbon is the Barcelona of Portugal and tourism is
central to its economy. Everywhere you look there are sights to
delight. The mixture of old and new architecture is brilliant. The
tiled buildings and the distinctive ‘tiled’ pavements are unique.
The tourist buses are great value. And the trams are sensational –
if you like trams! If you sit near the doors you can watch the
local urchins hitching a ride on the boarding step, clinging on by
their fingertips! Health and safety eat your heart out! The trains
too, are cheap, cheerful, clean and punctual. You can take the
train to nearby Estoril, with its beautiful beaches, and from there
it’s a leisurely stroll along the promenade to the charming resort
of Cascais. And, of course, everything is usually bathed in
glorious sunshine. If your Portuguese is a little rusty, don’t
worry, the locals will help you out. Lisbon, the perfect city break
before a river cruise.
Porto Porto, Portugal’s second largest city, is full of endless
charm. It’s like a ‘Lisbon in the North’ but a tenth of the size.
There’s so much for visitors to see. The trams, again rather like
in Lisbon, are just brilliant. As you can tell by now, we love the
place. Just along the coast there are holiday resorts such as
Espinho with its wonderful cosmopolitan beaches. There are busy
ports like Matosinhos, where you can eat the splendid seafood.
There are traditional fishing towns like Póvoa de Varzim. Inland,
there’s the quaint charm of Amarante, with its 17th century
mansions overlooking the river. Amarante is famous for a kind of
sweet egg pastry called ‘papos de anjo’ - angel bellies - you
simply have to try those! In Vila Nova de Gaia, you can visit and
taste the different varieties of Port in the lodges where the wine
is blended and aged. The whole Porto area is busy and prosperous,
but you can also drive along many calm roads with wonderful views
over the river and the rugged, unspoilt coastline.

2 NIGHTS LYON & 4 NIGHTS ON 4-STAR MS CAMARGUE
18 - 24 AUGUST 2011
LYON (2 NIGHTS B&B) + LYON • ARLES • AVIGNON • VIVIERS TAIN
L’HERMITAGE • LYON
Days 1 & 2 Having arrived in Lyon we’ve two nights in a 4-star
b&b with plenty of time to explore this marvellous city. The
shops, the museums, the bars, the restaurants, the food markets -
in modern times Lyon has developed a reputation as the capital of
gastronomy in France! Then, after two hectic days of sightseeing,
comes the welcome relaxation of the river cruise.
Day 3 We will board the 4-star MS Camargue, one of CroisiEurope’s
prestigious ‘floating hotels’, from 4pm and the ship will depart at
5pm heading, of course, due south. There will be welcome cocktails,
followed by dinner and an evening of entertainment. Cruising
overnight.
Day 4 Enjoy breakfast as we cruise through the beautiful landscape
of the south of France. We pass by Valence, overlooked by the Saint
Apollinaire cathedral, and Montelimar, famous for its nougat. Then
it’s through the great lock at Bollène. This has a water level
variation of 20 metres and was one of the major engineering
projects of the 1950s. Lunch will be served prior to arriving in
Arles around 2pm. There will be an optional tour to the famous
Camargue region. If you don’t fancy the tour, Arles, the largest
city in France, is absolute magic. Set on the banks of the Rhône,
it is exceptionally beautiful. It has
been described as ‘an open air museum’. We stop in Arles overnight,
so time for an evening stroll and drink.
Day 5 Leave Arles early and arrive in Avignon soon after breakfast.
Spend the morning strolling in town, admiring the famous bridge,
before sailing at noon for Roquemaure. Lunch on board. Again, there
will be an optional tour this time to the famous Ardeche Gorge.
Perhaps you’d rather relax on a sun-lounger and enjoy the August
sunshine. We meet those who have taken the coach tour at
St-Etienne- des-Sorts around 5pm. We have an hour or two there,
then leave for Viviers at 8pm. Dinner onboard. Arrive in Viviers
around 9.30pm for an overnight stop.
Day 6 Depart Viviers early, breakfasting as we travel towards La
Voulte, arriving in time for lunch on board. Once again, in the
afternoon there is an optional coach tour, taking in wonderful
panoramic views over the Vercors Plateau. While the tour takes
place the ship will sail to rendezvous with the coach tour party at
Tain l’Hermitage. There will be a Gala Dinner on board. We sail
through the evening and overnight towards Lyon.
Day 7 Breakfast on board. Disembarkation around 9am in Lyon.

decorations and tree are absolutely stunning! An optional coach
excursion will visit Cochem on the Moselle for those that have been
to Koblenz before.

‘locals’ own brand of Christmas. You’ll love the shopping streets
around and you mustn’t leave town without having morning coffee in
Maldaner!
RÜDESHEIM
The jewel in the crown! Such a beautiful place, even better with
the stalls set in the lanes of Rudesheim, the Christmas lights
bringing a glow of Christmas to everyone. In the evening, the
chance to venture out for a drink and enjoy the entertainment of
Lindenwirt hotel.
BONN
A superb array of stalls set around the cathedral and surrounding
streets bring the city into fairytale life. You can even watch the
ice skaters enjoying the chance of skating in the city on their own
Christmas ice rink!
COLOGNE

be open! A chance to see the famous Dom Cathedral on an optional
tour, shop till you drop in the pedestrianised centre and savour
the wonderful Christmas atmosphere that is Cologne.

dancing, or even venture out again to enjoy the vibrant night-life
of Paris! Be back by midnight though, as we cruise to Le Pecq to
moor overnight.
DAY 3: OLD MONTMARTRE WITH A PARIS BY NIGHT CRUISE
Early morning, we will sail through the Suresnes lock and pass the
famous La Defense neighbourhood before arriving back to Quai de
Grenelle. After breakfast, a wonderful optional morning tour by
coach takes us to Old Montmartre. The Basilica of Sacre-Coeur has a
surprising Byzantine style. Built at the end of the 19th century,
it was finally completed in 1914. Located in the centre of the 19th
century village of Montmartre, the Sacre-Coeur has been a favourite
subject for artists, sculptors and poets for generations.
Montmartre hill (or Butte) is one of the highest points of the
Capital, where there is a superb panoramic view of 50km (31 miles)
around Paris. After lunch onboard, the afternoon is free. The
mooring point is just ten minutes on foot from the Eiffel Tower and
the Trocadero Gardens, with the Invalides just a little further
away; it is easy to visit Paris at your leisure. Time also to do a
second Christmas Market! In the evening enjoy a gala dinner onboard
and a Paris by night cruise through the city. Paris is beautifully
illuminated at night and looks particularly attractive when viewed
from our vantage point on the Seine as we pass some of the most
famous and romantic buildings and monuments in the whole of
Europe.

OUR COACHES
This promises to be not just Cruise In's best Christmas Markets
trip ever, but also the best to be offered by any cruise or travel
agent in the UK! We're proud, in fact we're over the moon, to be
presenting a trip that's so special it has little chance of being
repeated! In cruising terms, this is a 'back-to-back', joining two
perfect cruise experiences together, one after the other, and
adding a wonderful night in Reims - actually a 24-hour break -
between cruises. Think about it. One moment you're cruising on the
Rhine for five nights, then changing countries to experience one of
the finest northern cities of France and finishing with three
superb nights in magical Paris, no less! You get to try two
different types of river vessels, including a line new to us,
CroisiEurope. CroisiEurope is one of France's major river cruise
lines. They have a fleet of 27 'Prestige' category recently-built
vessels, all with Veritas certification, and all maintained and
renovated each year. The ships are spacious, light, welcoming and
refined. They operate on the most beautiful rivers and coastal
waters in Europe. Before we get to Paris, there's another treat.
Every year, the vibrant city of Reims holds one of the largest
Christmas markets in Europe. The locals really know how to
celebrate. So they should.
Reims reputedly was the site, in the year 496, of the very first
French Christmas celebration! Since then, apart from a few
intervals for world wars and what not, Reims has laid on a huge
Christmas party. Reims' Christmas Village market combines street
entertainment, magicians, carol singers, and decorated wooden
chalet stalls selling everything you can think of: presents and
gifts of every kind, tree decorations, cards, wrapping papers,
baubles, bangles and beads, more reindeers than you can shake a
stick at, and a vast selection of wonderful, mouth-watering foods
and drinks. The market is held in the tree-lined, pedestrianised
streets of the city centre, complete with open-air skating rink,
all lit with thousands of lights. Naturally Santa will be well in
evidence with no doubt the usual fireworks, chef demonstrations and
other delights. Unmissable! It will seem a shame to leave, but
leave we must by 3pm. Yet we're only an hour from magical Paris,
with your CroisiEurope cruise ship moored right by the Eiffel
Tower! Here you will have the chance to unwind with two days in
Paris at your leisure, or shop 'til you drop including yet more
Christmas markets. What more could you ask for? It wouldn't
surprise us if you're not coming home for a rest. Don’t delay, book
today!

WORMS • SPEYER • STRASBOURG • BREISACH • BASEL
A superb Cologne to Basel river cruise on the elegant 4-Star MPS
Statendam, one of the largest ships sailing on the European rivers.
The carefully chosen itinerary is magical, based on our experience
of the Rhine and the bewitching charm of Switzerland. Boarding
Statendam in the afternoon, we sail south, passing Bonn, the
birthplace of Beethoven, to Königswinter where we overnight. The
town is overlooked by the famous 1,053 ft Drachenfels, with its
striking silhouette and ruined castle at the summit. Legend has it
that Siegfried - the hero of the Nibelungenlied - killed a dragon
living in a cave in the mountain, then bathed in its blood to
become invulnerable. Hence, the mountain’s name ‘Dragon’s Rock’ -
Drachenfels. The next day we move on to spend a morning in Koblenz,
at the confluence of the Rhine and the Moselle. From Koblenz we
sail in the afternoon, past the famous Lorelei Rock, to overnight
in Rudesheim, one of the most picturesque towns on the Rhine. The
following day we make an early start for Mainz, with its old town
full of fascinating shops. It’s also the starting point of an
optional morning tour to the wonderful, spectacular Heidelberg.
We’ll visit the fabulous castle overlooking the Neckar river
valley, and on to the beautiful old town with its famed town gates
and market place. Worms, home to the renowned Leibfraumilch wine
and its famous Nibelungen
Bridge, is equally fascinating. The following morning we spend in
Speyer, one of Germany’s oldest cities. Here we get the chance of
an optional tour to Bad Dürkheim, a health resort and old
wine-growing town. Then it’s on to spend a full morning in
Strasbourg giving time to visit the magnificent cathedral and
square. In Strasbourg we can visit the magnificent cathedral and
square, or take a leisurely guided canal cruise. Our optional
afternoon tour gives us a wonderful chance to visit the Alsace
region as well as visiting Colmar before rejoining Statendam at
Breisach. And the finale? Two full days in Basel, Switzerland! A
chance to visit so many places, many just an hour away such as Lake
Lucerne, Zurich or a little further, Lake Thun, Interlaken and the
mountain railways. We mustn’t forget Basel however. You will
delight in this lovely city if you want to relax and unwind. All
too soon, it’s over. A memorable holiday and a cruise to remember
forever! And so to Basel where Statendam will become your floating
hotel for the next two days. After we arrive, the remainder of the
day will be yours to enjoy the delights of the city at your
leisure. If you want to take it easy and relax on board, feel free.
As in any city, what you do is up to you. And in Basel it’s bound
to be brilliant.
