COURTHOUSE GALLERY: Ariana Kolins and Russell Serrianne
July 12 - August 15, 2014Opening Reception: Saturday, July 12th, 4 - 6 PM,
This event is FREE and open to the public.Ariana Kolins uses the ceramic pinching technique to create bothfunctional and sculptural work. She says: “Touch is paramountfor my artistic expression. The care that goes into pinching clay--a slow, simple, process-oriented technique, one that is rudimen-tary and yet sophisticated, is similar to the care of building andmaintaining relationships.” Her work further explores how indi-vidual forms are transformed, either through interacting withingroups, or by standing alone. “For me my forms of clay are asindividuals, interacting with themselves, each other and thegreater whole- the community. “Russell Serrianne uses the natural lines formed by vine tendrilsto create his intricate three dimensional drawings. Individualvines are carefully selected by shape, thickness and size. A piecemay contain anywhere from 75 to 1,700 vine tendrils. He says: “Iam captivated by the energized line naturally found in thestrength and determination of the vine tendril. In my work I usethe vine tendril as my drawing tool, as my mark, as 3- dimen-sional line. I reinvent the appearance of the tendril's thin bark withburnishing techniques such as steel wool rubbing and with coat-ings of clear shellac, creating a mark that appears to be fabri-cated; mechanically twisted, metalized and disassociated fromits natural intent and yet true in its organic statement.”This exhibition is funded in part by Hacker Boat Company, Inc.,Glens Falls National Bank, and the New York State Council onthe Arts, a state agency. The Courthouse Gallery hours duringexhibitions are Tuesday through Friday 12 – 5 pm, Saturday 12– 4 pm, and all other times by appointment. The CourthouseGallery is located at the side entrance of the Old County Court-house, corner of Canada and Lower Amherst Streets, LakeGeorge, NY.

Top Three Auto Repair Red Flags(NAPSI)—Finding an auto repair shop you can trust can be achallenge. Here are three warning signs to watch for on your nexttrip to the mechanic.• While no one likes to be overcharged, beware of estimates thatare well under market rate. This can be a sign the mechanic isusing low-quality or even used parts. Some mechanics use low-ball estimates to lure you in for additional repairs that they willtack on later.• Automotive technology is rapidly evolving and some shops failto keep up. Without up-to-date diagnostic tools, a mechanic couldmisdiagnose your problem, which means youʼll pay for unneces-sary repairs that donʼt even fix your original problem.• If a mechanic employs scare tactics or treats you in a conde-scending way, move on. A reputable mechanic will take the timeto explain your options just as a doctor guides you to make theright decision for your health.Fortunately, thereʼs a free service called RepairPal that can helpconsumers find a trustworthy local mechanic. RepairPal inde-pendently certifies auto repair shops nationwide for superior train-ing, quality tools, fair pricing standards and a minimum12-month/12,000-mile warranty.RepairPal also provides car owners with a tool that brings trans-parency to repair costs—the RepairPrice Estimator. Cited as aresource by Consumer Reports, AOL Autos and Cars.com, thispatented calculator generates fair price quotes based on theuserʼs automobile, location, and the service requested. All me-chanics in the RepairPal Certified shop network honor these es-timates to give consumers peace of mind that theyʼll never beovercharged. To learn more, visit www.RepairPal.com/estimator.
