Early Mans Appearance Through the Ages
By Connor
Introduction
This presentation is about how early man looked throughout the ages. From the hominid Australopithecus aferensis to the modern human Homo sapiens sapiens, each had there own special appearance which scientists classify into separate groups.
Australopithecus afarensis
• About 3.9 to 3.0 million years ago early man had an apelike face except for the human-like teeth
• Flat nose
• They walked but weren’t too adapted to running
• The finger and toe bones were curved more then a regular humans but the hands are fairly similar.
• The heights varied from about 107 centimetres and 152 cm.
• Had a curved back
This is a skull of an early Australopthecus afrensis.
Homo habilis
• Homo habilis had disproportionally long arms and short legs
• Smaller then modern humans, averagely was about 4 feet and 3 inches tall.
• It still resembled an ape
• They had a flatter face then modern humans
• They had half the size of modern human brains
• There back teeth were bigger then there front teeth

Homo erectus
• Was about 4-5 feet tall
• Had fairly large teeth
• The bone indication showed that they were quite heavily muscled
• Their teeth started to look more like modern human’s and were generally large
• The bones in the back of their head were heavy and thick
• No chin and a large jaw

Homo sapiens Neanderthalensis
• They walked upright
• Feet and body similar to early modern humans
• They had a brain size similar to what we have
• The bone structure shows that they were much stronger then modern humans
• They looked quite similar to modern humans
• The Neanderthals were about 5 feet and 5 inches tall
• Females were slightly shorter then males
• They had thick ribs

Homo sapiens Cro-Magnon• Almost identical to modern humans
• They were quite muscular
• Around 5 feet and 7 inches tall
• Cro-Magnon had long, low skull and a wide face
• Had a sharp, rising forehead
• Eye sockets were square shaped
• Wore jewelry such as necklaces and bracelets

Homo sapiens sapiens
Homo sapiens sapiens are modern day humans
Have large brains
Small jaws
Not as muscular as the Neanderthals
Around 5 feet 6 inches tall
Walk fully upright
Minimal hair on our bodies (replaced by clothing)

Conclusion
• This is what scientists believe how the hominids looked based on the skeletons that they found. Early Man to modern man has developed a lot through the years.
