BALLROOM DANCING As we edge closer to the Ballroom Dancing
competition at Homebush on Tuesday 6 September, selections are
almost complete and the students are busy demonstrating their
moves! We have been looking at costuming and putting a call out to
all those that competed in last year’s ballroom dancing to check
their wardrobes and talk to those that have moved on to high school
to see if they still have any of our costumes. We appear to be
missing a number of bow ties and cummerbunds as well as some
skirts. If you do have any, can you please return them to the
school ASAP! Thanks! There will be a Ballroom Dancing demonstration
afternoon on Monday 29 August in the school hall commencing at 2pm
for
parents, grandparents and friends to attend! All of Year 5 and Year
6 will be showing of their ballroom dancing skills on this

of the Rio Games with the following results: Thomas M, representing
Belgium, won the Year 5 division PLUS overall winner! Kane J,
representing New Zealand, won the Year 4 division Thomas J,
representing Germany, won the Year 3 division Niklas K,
representing Uruguay, won the Year 4 division We wanted to add a
“wild card” element to the competition and started thinking about
ratios for the number of medals per the number of competitors from
any particular country per that country’s population and the winner
was …… Alex C, representing Cameroon (on a count-back)! Stay tuned
for a Monday morning assembly prize-giving. Heike Zillhardt
Quarantine Station excursion
Due to Wednesday’s poor weather conditions, the Stage 1 excursion
to the Quarantine Station has been rescheduled to Wednesday 31
August. Fingers crossed for better weather next week. SRC Update –
Nepal Donation
As you know we raised some much needed funds after the devastating
earthquake in Nepal last year. Fiona Chadwick (Shanti & Malie
Yr 3) went to Nepal and put our donation to excellent use. The
money was donated to an orphanage outside the city of Kathmandu in
a beautiful semi –rural area. The orphanage is home to 26 children
who suffer from the HIV virus. These children have either, lost
their parents, been abandoned by them or given up on by other
family members. Thankfully, a young Nepalese couple founded the
orphanage with their own money and now these children have a home
and access to education. Our donation has helped build a kitchen
and a common area where the children can eat and study. The
children are so grateful to Wheeler Heights Public School for their
kind and generous donation.

Wheeler Heights Athletics Carnival Results 2016 On Tuesday August
23, students from Years 3-6 (and some keen students from Year 2)
attended the Wheeler Heights Athletics
carnival at The Sydney Academy of Sport, Narrabeen.
We were extremely lucky with the weather and despite the cold, we
had sunshine all day. I would like to congratulate all students who
participated. It
was great to see everyone ‘having a go’ and trying their personal
best. Many teachers were impressed by the comradery shown between
students and it was fabulous to see so much House spirit.
Congratulations to all students who placed in their event. Ribbons
will be handed out on Monday 5 September in the morning assembly in
Week 8.
A special congratulations to Wheeler who took out the overall point
score for the day. With only a few points separating the houses
(Wheeler 1

participation is for your house!
Of course this day would not have run as smoothly as it did without
the effort from the teachers. Thank you all for working efficiently
through the events and without breaks. The day wouldn’t have been
so successful without all of your hard work!

Sports Update Sydney North Rugby Union
Archie S and Ezra P are part of the Sydney North Rugby Union side
playing in Mudgee at the moment. The boys had a great first day
with two wins (82-0 and 35-5). This meant day two was a play off
for the semi's, unfortunately, Sydney South West were too good and
beat them 36-12. Following this, the boys rallied together to win
their next match 15-5. Today they will be playing for 5th or 6th
position, a fantastic achievement! Reports back have stated that
both the Wheeler boys have been enjoying their time, scoring tries
and making great tackles! All the best to them today! PSSA -
Wheeler vs Mona Vale
This week is our last Wet Weather make-up round against Mona Vale.
Netball Girls are at Boondah; Soccer Boys and Girls are at
Kitchener; Rugby League Boys are at Narrabeen Reserve; and AFL boys
and girls are at Narrabeen Reserve. Best of luck to all teams this
week! In the event that games this week are rained out, there is
one more week to make these matches up. We had some fantastic
results last week against Avalon. Congratulations to the Senior
Rugby League boys who have maintained their dominance this season
to remain unbeaten and only conceding three tries against them!
They show true sportsmanship and teamwork, both on and off the
field. This has them top of the table equal with Avalon and a win
this week will see them outright winners. Well done boys on an
outstanding achievement!
