Psalms 63:1-4
1 You, God, are my God, earnestly I seekyou; I thirst for you, my whole being longsfor you, in a dry and parched land wherethere is no water. 2 I have seen you in thesanctuary and beheld your power and yourglory. 3 Because your love is better than life,my lips will glorify you. 4 I will praise you aslong as I live, and in your name I will lift upmy hands.
Seven Hebrew Words for
Praise
HalalHalal is a primary Hebrew root word forpraise. Our word "hallelujah" comesfrom this base word. It means "to beclear, to shine, to boast, show, to rave, celebrate, to be clamorously foolish.“
YadahYadah is a verb with a root meaning,"the extended hand, to throw out thehand, therefore to worship withextended hand." According to theLexicon, the opposite meaning is "tobemoan, the wringing of the hands."
TowdahTowdah comes from the same principle rootword as yadah, but is used morespecifically. Towdah literally means, "anextension of the hand in adoration, avowal,or acceptance." By way of application, it isappratent in the Psalms and elsewhere thatit is used for thanking God for "things notyet received" as well as things already athand.
ShabachShabach means, "to shout, to address in aloud tone, to command, to triumph."
BarakBarak means "to kneel down, to bless Godas an act of adoration."
ZamarZamar means "to pluck the strings of aninstrument, to sing, to praise; a musicalword which is largely involved with joyfulexpressions of music with musicalinstruments.
TehillahTehillah is derived from the word halal andmeans "the singing of halals, to sing or tolaud; perceived to involve music, especiallysinging; hymns of the Spirit.
Four Postures Of Worship
• Lift Your Hands (Yadah)
• Bring Gifts (Towdah)
• Pour Out Heart (Tehillah)
• Bow On Your Knees (Barak)
Lift YourHands
YadahYadah is a verb with a root meaning,"the extended hand, to throw out thehand, therefore to worship withextended hand." According to theLexicon, the opposite meaning is "tobemoan, the wringing of the hands."
Christmas is not just a season of giving
but of worship.
Worship is very important to God.
Matthew 2:2
After Jesus was born in Bethlehem in
Judea, during the time of King Herod,
Magi from the east came to Jerusalem 2
and asked, “Where is the one who has
been born king of the Jews? We saw
his star when it rose and have come
to worship him.”
We don’t come to God to get what we
want. We come to God so we could worship Him.
God is pleased with our hearts ready to
worship.
You can’t experience God and not show
gratitude.
Worship expresses what is in your
heart.
God lovesit when we do.
Why lift hands?
Surrender
1 Timothy 2:8
8 Therefore I want the men everywhere
to pray, lifting up holy hands without
anger or disputing.
Nazi Salute
Nazi Salute
The Nazi salute or Hitler salute (literally Hitler
Greeting) is a gesture that was used as a
greeting in Nazi Germany. The salute is
performed by extending the right arm in the air
with a straightened hand. Usually, the person
offering the salute would say "Heil Hitler!" (Hail
Hitler!), "Heil, mein Führer!" (Hail, my
leader!), or "Sieg Heil!" (Hail victory!).
Nazi Salute
It was adopted in the 1930s by the Nazi Party
to signal obedience to the party's leader,
Adolf Hitler, and to glorify the German
nation (and later the German war effort). The
salute was mandatory for civilians, but was
mostly optional for military personnel who
retained the traditional military salute until
shortly after the failed assassination attempt on
Hitler in 1944.
Nazi Salute
I made it the salute of the Party long after the
Duce had adopted it. I'd read the description of
the sitting of the Diet of Worms, in the course of
which Luther was greeted with the German
salute. It was to show him that he was not
being confronted with arms, but with peaceful
intentions. In the days of Frederick the Great,
people still saluted with their hats, with
pompous gestures.
Nazi Salute
In the Middle Ages the serfs humbly doffed
their bonnets, whilst the noblemen gave the
German salute. It was in the Ratskeller at
Bremen, about the year 1921, that I first saw
this style of salute. It must be regarded as a
survival of an ancient custom, which originally
signified: "See, I have no weapon in my
hand!" I introduced the salute into the Party at
our first meeting in Weimar.
Nazi Salute
The SS at once gave it a soldierly style. It's
from that moment that our opponents honored
us with the epithet "dogs of Fascists".

August Landmesser
August Landmesser
On 29 October 1935, Landmesser and Eckler's
first daughter, Ingrid, was born. A now-famous
photograph, in which a man identified as
Landmesser refuses to give the Nazi salute,
was taken on 13 June 1936. In 1937,
Landmesser and Eckler tried to flee to
Denmark but were apprehended.
No loving father would turn from the lifted hands of his
child.
James 4:8
8 Come near to God and he will comenear to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.
Offering of praise.
Romans 12:1-2
Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters,in view of God’s mercy, to offer yourbodies as a living sacrifice, holy andpleasing to God—this is your true andproper worship. 2 Do not conform to thepattern of this world, but be transformed bythe renewing of your mind. Then you will beable to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.
PSALMS 141:1-2
1 O LORD, I am calling to you. Please hurry!Listen when I cry to you for help! 2 Acceptmy prayer as incense offered to you, andmy upraised hands as an eveningoffering.
When we worship, we reach out to God.
When we worship, we offer our battles
to Him.
Victory
Exodus 17:10-11
10 So Joshua fought the Amalekites asMoses had ordered, and Moses, Aaron andHur went to the top of the hill. 11 As long asMoses held up his hands, the Israeliteswere winning, but whenever he loweredhis hands, the Amalekites were winning.
Your victory depends on your worship to God.
You win when you worship, you lose when you don’t.
You lose a battle because you don’t
worship.
Exodus 17:12-13
12 When Moses’ hands grew tired, they tooka stone and put it under him and he sat onit. Aaron and Hur held his hands up—oneon one side, one on the other—so thathis hands remained steady till sunset. 13
So Joshua overcame the Amalekite armywith the sword.
Worship is powerful when you do it with
others.
The point of your surrender is the
beginning of your victory
