COLOSSUS Liner hanger systems

Enhanced well integrity and well construction efficiencyCareful planning before and during installation can help operators prevent issues that significantly impact NPT. With more than 45 years of liner hanger experience, our dedicated team of experts offers customized support, a commitment to excellence in execution and service quality, and optimized workflows with zero NPT and is backed by an extensive global track record to maximize efficient processes and effective outcomes.

Versatile COLOSSUS systemsThe complexity of each application depends on a number of factors, such as well deviation, temperature, and pressure. With a range of available features, COLOSSUS liner hanger systems have a history of success in the most straightforward to the most challenging environments around the world.

COLOSSUS liner hanger

systems enable better cement

placement, reduce completion

time, minimize formation

damage, and maximize well

control during the completion.

A southern Mexico operator’s exploration well was drilled in 9,253 ft of water. The completion design included a 9 7/8-in liner (TD at 19,568-ft MD) and a 7-in liner (TD at 21,310-ft MD). Two premium COLOSSUS CMT cemented liner hanger systems with drilldown capability were successfully deployed at these depths. A diverter valve and autofill float collar were used for surge protection and faster tripping. A rig rate in excess of USD 1 million/day emphasized the importance of a flawless operation.

More than 25,000 installations worldwide COLOSSUS liner hanger systems have been deployed in more than 20 countries with a 99.5% operating efficiency for Gulf of Mexico (GOM) operations.

Technology Support

Job preparation in LouisianaFull prejob assembly and testing occurs before the system is sent to the wellsite.

Equipment engineering in TexasStart-to-finish engineering and technical support ensures fit-for-purpose equipment.

DesignEvery job begins with an in-person customer meeting to understand requirements.

Trained and experienced personnelAll field personnel go through a 36-month structured workshop and field training program.

EvaluationA review compares planned versus job parameters and discusses lessons learned and future plans.

ExecutionA checklist for standard and contingency procedures ensures job consistency and enables zero NPT.

Deployment process

ISO 14310 (API 11D1) compliant Features liner top packers qualified to V3 and V0 standards.

Enhanced drilldown capabilityMitigates wellbore obstructions to reach target depth.

Proprietary slip cone designReduces casing stress and mandrel collapse by uniformly distributing the load.

High-speed trippingReduces completion time by reaching target depth quickly.

Rotation running in and after cementEnables better placement of cement around the casing providing better isolation.

HPHT complianceTolerates up to 15,000 psi [103.4 MPa] and 400 degF [204.4 degC].

Matching the best-performing liner hanger system with a particular well’s parameters requires a deep understanding of the wellbore environment and its potential challenges. A dedicated team of Schlumberger engineers works with you to understand these challenges and recommend the appropriate liner hanger system for the operation. With engineering knowledge and expertise, innovative tool designs, and simulation software, our team helps streamline liner hanger deployment, optimize the operation, minimize risks, and reduce costs.

COLOSSUS liner hanger systems feature a high-capacity rotating liner hanger, liner top packer, running tool with optional release mechanisms—hydraulic, mechanical, and hydromechanical—and cementing accessories. The hydaulic-set hydraulic release system can be used in deepwater and deep onshore wells; HPHT environments; horizontal, extended-reach, tight, and deviated wellbores; and wells requiring drilldown capability.
