Wellington’s TidesNew Zealand’s tidal bulge meets in the cook staight, causing the tides on each side to be completely opposite in cycle. i.e one is high while the other is low.

Wellington does not have a normal spring/neap tide cycle. Instead the tide only rises and falls by 1-1.5 metres, throughout the month and only has one cycle.

This creates amenable conditions to building on this site at below sea-level, because the rise and fall of the tide will be consistant.
