CNYLIVE: How did you meet the other members of SoulRisin’

BRYAN: I had met our original drummer through a series ofstrange coincidences, and it just so happened he was startinga project with a couple other guys (our lead guitarist, JeffPazer being one of them). It worked out for a short while, and a good number of shows, but when Jeff and I parted wayswith him and the original bassist, Jeff knew John Capozzolo(drummer) and I knew Adam Fisher (bass). Everything justseemed to fit a bit better - the musicianship was there, and wewere really able to grow a lot more as a cohesive group. Then, back in September 2007, when Adam invited Mike to comeplay keys for us, the sound I’d always envisioned was finallythere. Now if I could only find a full-time, backing gospelchoir...

CNYLIVE: Any new recordings in the works?

BRYAN: Yes. We’re in the process of laying down some pre-production tracks to our second album (a follow up to ourfirst, When The Bridges Begin To Burn). Three rough takesare currently up on the MySpace - www.myspace.com/soulrisin,but we’ve been testing out quite a few new originals at ourshows. It seems like we’ve had at least one new one sneak itsway out every couple shows now, and I think we’re prettysure on the 10-12 tracks we’ll include on the new release.

CNYLIVE: What’s on tap this summer and fall for liveshows?

BRYAN: Some upcoming shows include: Syracuse DinosaurBBQ on August 2, Bull & Bear Pub on August 15, we’reback at Shifty’s on August 29, and we’ve got a couple datesat The New York State Fair (8/21 & 9/1 - opening and closingnights). Some other cool gigs include the Second AnnualCazenovia Ski Club Mountain Jam on September 20 - setright at the bottom of the ski hill with a handful of other bands.Last year was a lot of fun, with Los Blancos headlining, andwe’re really looking forward to being a part of it again thisyear. Also, we’ll be at Dinosaur BBQ Syracuse again onHalloween (10/31). We’re thinking of taking a page right outof Phish’s book and trying to tackle a complete album cover. We haven’t made the final decision yet, but we’re tossingaround the idea of doing what is probably my favorite Beatlesalbum... we’ll officially announce it sometime soon.

CNY BAND PROFILE : Bryan WeinsztokLead vocalist and guitarist for Soul Risin’

CNYLIVE: How did you get started playing and performingmusic?

BRYAN: I’ve always been overrun by music. My father isself taught on a number of instruments, my uncle is also amusician and always pushed me to write, play and record, and there was never a shortage of good music to listen to orbeing played at home when I was a kid.

I started writing at a very young age, jotting down lyrics tomelodies I’d develop in my head. When I started playing guitarit just seemed natural for me to put words to music, andI always had an urge to perform in front of people. Any timeI had some sort of project or presentation to do for school I’doften put it to song and it was pretty much a guaranteed A.I suppose I always took advantage of any opportunity I couldto showcase myself.

When I got to the University of Florida is when I was reallyable to start performing regularly in front of good-sizedcrowds... and getting paid for it too. I met my good friendDan Maloney there within our first couple days and we justhit it off musically. He’d played in a popular Tampa-basedband all through high school, and they let me sit in with thema couple times during our first year of school. We were bothinto the same types of music, and before we knew it, we wereplaying regular acoustic-duo gigs multiple nights per week,in the biggest and most popular bars in Gainesville. Fromthen on I was hooked and always itching to play shows.

CNYLIVE: Why the move to Syracuse?

BRYAN: I dare say for the weather, but why else would aguy move from sunny South Florida to Upstate New York...the real answer, my wonderful and stunning fiancé, Alaina. She was finishing up her master’s degree up in Oswego, so Ijust came up this way. Florida can wear on you after 25 years,so it’s been a nice change. I suppose I just gave up golf forsnowboarding for six months out of the year.
