Ciclo celular, mitosis y meiosis
Ciclo Celular
THE CELL CYCLE:
The MITOTIC PHASE (M): MITOSIS (KARYOKINESIS = division of nucleus) and CYTOKINESIS = division of cytoplasm.
Anatomy of a chromosome
Chromosomes are categorized by the relative location of their centromere.
The portion of the chromosome to each side of a centromere is called a chromosome arm.
Ploidy (N):Term used to describe the number of chromosomes of a certain type. Most organisms are DIPLOID (2N), which means their chromosomes occur in pairs.
Polyploidy:A chromosomal alteration (e.g, mutation) in which organism possesses more than two complete chromosome pairs. (i.e., TRIPLOID (3N), TETRAPLOID (4N), etc.).
Mitosis
MITOSIS:
A process of cell (nuclear) division characterized by a sequence of distinctive stages that conserve chromosome numbers by equally
allocating replicated chromosomes to each of two daughter cells,
ocurring in somatic cells.
Profase Condensación de
filamentos decromatina para darlugar a los cromosomas.
Nucleolo y membrananuclear desaparecen,síntesis del husomitótico.
1. PROPHASE:
Metafase
2. METAPHASE:-the centriole pairs are now at opposite
ends, or poles, of the cell.-chromosomes are aligned with one another
at the equatorial (the metaphaseplate) of the cell.
Anafase se separa las
cromátidasmoviéndoselentamente a lospolos opuestos.
.ANAPHASE:
-each chromatid (now is
considered as a full-
fledged chromosome)
move towards the
opposite
poles.
-by the end of this
phase, the two poles
have equivalent and
complete collections
of chromosomes.
Telofase
4. TELOPHASE followed by CYTOKINESIS:- chromosomes gather at the two poles.- nuclear envelopes are formed in this process which is followed by cytokinesis or division of cytoplasm which result in formation of two daughter cells that have same number of chromosomes.
CYTOKINESIS:
1). Animal type cytokinesis:- occurs by process called cleavage.- a contractile ring, pinch the parent cell to formcleavage furrow that becomes deep andpinch the two daughter cells away.
2). Plant type cytokinesis:- no cleavage furrow.- occurs by formation of cell plates across themidline of the parent cell.
- the cell plates fuse together and separate thetwo daughter cells.

Meiosis
Meiosis
Es una secuencia de dos divisiones nucleares.
La primera división es reductora
La segunda división es ecuacional
A two-stage cell division found only in sexually reproducing organisms
that result in gametes with half of the chromosome number of the
original cell (1N)
MEIOSIS:
MEIOSIS I :
a). Prophase I:- many processes but the important one is a process called synapsisor the formation of TETRAD of two homologous chromosomes that enable crossing over between these two homologous chromosomes. Crossing over increases variability of gametes and individuals.
b). Metaphase I:- Chromosomes (still in homologous pairs or tetrad) are arranged on the metaphase plate.
MEIOSIS I: Cont’d.c). Anaphase I: - Chromosomes (still in
pairs=sister chromatids) separate from their homologue and go towards the opposite poles.
d). Telophase I and Cytokinesis: - Chromosomes (still in pairs=sister chromatids) are in each of
the opposite poles- no nuclear envelope formed- Cytokinesis produces two daughter cells that
have half of parent chromosomes and NO NUCLEAR ENVELOPE -> as preparation to meiosis II
Profase I - Leptoteno
La cromatinaes visible yconsiste de 2cromátidasunidas por un
centrómero.
Profase I - Zygoteno
Visibles los cromosomas homólogos. Ocurre sinapsis. Esta comienza en los
telómeros y en los centrómeros. Los pares formados se conoce como
bivalentes.
Profase I - Paquiteno
Intercambio de material genético entrecromosomas (‘crossing over”).
Formación de las quiasmas.
Quiasma es elpunto (lugarfísico) dondeocurreintercambiode materialgenético o“crossingover”.
Profase I - Diploteno
plano ecuatorial.
Anafase I Reducción del material genético.
Telofase I
Los cromosomasse desenrollan.
El nucleolo y lamembrananuclearreaparecen.
Intercinesis
Periodo corto o ausente.
Meiosis II
MEIOSIS II :a). Prophase II: - similar to prophase in mitosis
b). Metaphase II: - similar to metaphase in mitosis
c). Anaphase II: - similar to anaphase in mitosis
d). Telophase II and Cytokinesis: - similar to telophase and cytokinesis in
mitosis- each starting daughter cell (resulted
from meiosis I) produces two daughter; so, in the final, four daughter cells are produced from meiosis.
Profase II
Los cromosomascomienzan a enrrollarsey se acortan.
Membrana nuclear serompe.
