**If this sounds/reads largely like the Simple Rabbit Altar notes from last year, it is because I used

it as a template (80% of the information is the same regardless of the year). Time is tight and why

rewrite things which still apply?:)**

The altar serves as your own personal connection to the world(s) which surround and engulf us -

the altar is the microcosm of the vast macrocosm of the multiverse. Unlike some kinds of altars,creating a Lunar New Year altar is simply welcoming a guest. As any good host give food, drink

and a comfortable place to be in, while your guest is staying with you. Be attentive to their simple

needs and make your guest feel honoured & wanted, without causing them embarrassment or

making any unnecessary fuss. Your guest is the Year, and for fifteen days, you are treating that Year

how youd like to be treated for all the days afterwards. It is that simple.

Below are the standards for the Lunar New Year altar with set-up & tips.

The Black Water Yang ["Zen Chen" or "SHUI (Active Water/waves/ripples)LNG

(Dragon)" are two name He goes by] has some similarities to the Metal Rabbit of the previousyear. One, being the "calmest/most patient" of the five Dragon years, his tastes are suited more

toward simple home-made versions of his foods - being wheat & poultry (e.g. Lemon Chicken,

Fresh Wheat Bread/Pancakes, Chicken & Waffles - for those from the South:), et cetera). Dragon

like a comfortable place for him time as your guest. Actions of the Heart go a long way with

them. However, to say that they abstain from things ornate would be far from the mark. Sorry, but

Dragon needs its hoard! Some water & wood items - the elements of the year (nothing with sharp

edges), and something "comfortable" to place under him Image/Statue (e.g. soft cloth/blanket or

mini cushion) are for Dragon's altar set-up. Show wealth, if you can, especially with the main

statue! REMEMBER, what any animal wants is your attentiveness - minimum two minutes of your

time each day, positive intentions and a little praise (Good Dragon praise words are Innovative,Brave, Passionate, Confident, Noble, Charming, and Protective). Kung Hei Fat Choi!

You first need the proper intent, without it you are lost and your altar will be a waste of space. Be

positive, focused and loving. Got it? Lets move on.

You need a space. Any flat surface can be usually be used for an altar a brick-raised board, coffee

table, even dedicated (CLEAN) floor space. Be sure that the space is big enough for everything

(would you want to be squished in a tiny space?) & that it is clean. Place it facing your homes

main entrance or in its main space. NOTE: Dragon prefers High & Secure spots and Visible spots

that show his Value as your guest. So off the Floor - In your Main Hall or Top of the Book shelfor Head of your Table, but NOT on a fireplace mantle or "Fire" spots or a place where a pet can

reach it (Place tin foil in the area a week before setting the altar, some cats do not like the sound of

walking on it. This can deter them from heading to your altar when you set it up. Just remove the

tin foil before you do;).

NO White (the colour of Death not good for the Year . . . ever!) but YES to Red & Gold, which

are auspicious colours and also Dragon's favorite colours! You can add Black for the Element and

Spring shades of Red & Gold as Spring is Dragon's favourite Season.

Image/statue of Dragon - make it your focus / focal point - those who want favour of Dragon;

especially if born under a Challenging year/element, should not cheap out this year - Try for Hand-

made by a Craftsman or the Canada Post Dragon Postcards, but a Red Dragon statue fromChinatown will work, if in a pinch!

YES to small tokens of the Rooster, Rat, Monkey; especially Rooster (Rooster praises Dragon

with long & kind words, distracting from those who are born under a Challenging year- [Dog, Ox,

Goat & Dragons & Monkeys to a lesser extent or those born of Wood element!). The rest of these

animals on the altar are optional and remember Dragon should be the largest image on the altar!**Bonus Points - Print off this Duke and place him in the South-East corner of your place and the

same height as your Dragon Image (If you want more information about this Grand Duke - email

me;)**

NO cut flowers (means Life cut short) but YES to healthy plants. Orchids & Chrysanthemums are

good for altar Flora. Yes, you can offer Dragon some Dragon fruit, if you want ;) 3 pieces of

Bamboo in a clear vase of water in the North West corner of the Altar is beneficial this Year. Wheat

& Poultry (e.g. Bones from a joyful chicken dinner are nice but a good cut of Right Breast is better

or a cup of Chicken Broth will do in a pinch) are Dragons favourite foods. NOTE: If you are in an

unfavourable position with Dragon, it is best to show-off with your altar and include one (or all) of

these items!

Citrus & "Water/Wood" Incense (e.g. Cider, ) not too fragrant (you are not covering the odour of

a sacrifice . . . . Unless you owe Dragon BIG time . . . like those born Year of the Dog!). **Bonus

Points - Dragon like Gold, Silk and Divination - a deck of Tarot will do; but I Ching Yarrow

Rods/Coins are better! Place below (if you have a two-tiered altar) or the South Foot of Dragon's

Image/Statue. Also, a favorite book or a "Book of Praise" where you journal your experiences in

the Dragon's year)**

Tea Lights and/or simple lanterns. Avoid taper candles for safety reasons & as their height may

dwarf the image of Dragon. Also matches (no lighters) and candle snuffer (NEVER blow out a

candle).

hour of the rat and points north. The horse indicates a two-hour intervalaround midday and points south.

Think about Dragon! In Chinese astrology, Dragon is the only animal of the

Chinese zodiac year that cannot be seen in everyday Life. Well, not as a

breathing organism; as Dragons are quite special and bless us both in Fiction &

History, in Art & Science - they are Everywhere and Nowhere.

Dragon holds special significance for the Chinese peoples. More than 4,000years ago, there were two large tribes and many smaller tribes in China. The

tribes had animals as emblems. The two large tribes unified under the first

emperor Huang-Di and chose Dragon as their symbol (The Han Chinese still

call themselves, the descendants of the Dragon). The mythic origins also stem

from Huang-Di; being born in a thunderclap in the sky on a cloudless day. He

brought many sciences to his people (the Ancient Chinese people, not

Cathayan who later reigned); writing the Bei Ze Tu (A revered tome describing

the 11520 shifters of the cosmos), he also invented several tools. One of

these tools, whose name simply translated as tripod, was a harvester of the

energies and a recorder of his Life; which pointed at the Syuan Yuan star[Regulus] (part of the Dragon/Lung constellation, the guardian of the Eastern

sky, brings in the Four Blessings of the East: Wealth, Virtue, Harmony &

Longevity.) atop a holy mountain. When he died, a large metallic dragon

descended from the heavens to take him away.

Another myth says the Chinese Gods came from the belly of these dragons

(lung), made up of different parts of animals such as a tiger, fish, snake and an

eagle. They taught the first people how to read, write and perform the

Arts/Sciences/Magic, and were not seen as evil beings, as many Dragons in the

West were branded. I believe that all these myths are truth!

Indeed, of the 12 signs of the Chinese zodiac, Dragon is the most special, as itis a mystical being rather than an earthly animal. It is sometimes called a

Karmic or Potent sign. We can expect grand things this year; bigger than

Life with spectacular successes, huge failures and major ramifications.

To get an idea what may occur in 2012; let us look back to the last visit of the

Black Water Dragon in 1952. The Korean War was at the stalemate, after it

started in 1950. In Nov. 1952, the newly elected President Eisenhower visited

Korea and look for ways to end the war and preparing to negotiate armistice.

Earlier in February, Elizabeth II became Queen of the Commonwealth; and

Agatha Christie's play The Mousetrap opened in London in November; both

showing the longevity events born in a Dragon year can possess. To show the

As for Dragons mysterious & deadly side, if the H-Bomb & Mr. Potato Head

were not destructive enough; in April, 78 seal hunters and 5 Norwegian seal

hunting ship perished without trace. In December, killer fog was reported in

London killing 307 people (where smog creeps into our modern vocabulary);

UFO reports over Washington, D.C. in July and sightings continued to grow

worldwide. Such mysterious events could be associated with the Dragon

opening the Heavens gate like He did for the First Emperor.

However, the world-ending predictions aligned with the end of the Mayan

Calendar on Winter Solstice on 2012, are neither part of the Black Water

Dragon year nor part of Chinese Astrology. No matter what that John Cusack

movie says, the relationship between I Ching & 2012, popularized by TerenceMcKennas book The Invisible Landscape: Mind, Hallucinogens, and the I

Ching does not hold merit. I will not go into it; but if you are interested, I can

send you the link to a great article by a master Feng Shui practitioner.

But the more worrying aspects (I know Alien Invasion & Mr. Potato Head are

troublesome) - Dragon and Dog, who are in conflict during their years, are

symbols of the Heaven and Hell Gates - luminal places, where Nobleman of

the Jade Court will not be present. Noblemen are helpful deities that can

rescue people from misfortune, lessening disasters. But in Dragon and Dog

years, there is no such rescue forces coming forward to save people from

tragedy, as such, the disasters usually will have higher death tolls or casualty

rates.

So Dragon being a powerful Earth element (yes, Wood is the prime element of

Dragon, but in the Four Pillars of Destiny [Feng Shui] its Strong Earth), and

also the vast keeper of water. He often triggers massive earthquakes and

earth related disasters such as collapse of buildings, mining disasters,

landslide, avalanchesetc.; he can also release massive amount of water,

especially when it is under clash against Dog (inauspicious), or forming a big

cycle of water with Monkey and Rat (auspicious). As such, this Yang (Black

powerful ocean/falling earth) Water year is very often associate with

earthquakes & tsunamis. In history, the most serious earthquake on record

happened in the years of Dragon. Here are the serious earthquakes of the last

5 Dragon years, 1952 (Water Dragon) California, 1964 (Wood Dragon)

Alaska, 1976 (Fire Dragon) China, 1988 (Earth Dragon) Nepal & Russia, and

2000 (Metal Dragon) Sumatra. The two major earthquakes in California and

Russia during the last Water Dragon year, also triggered a big tsunamis (The

one in Kamchatka, Russia triggered a tsunami which went as far as Hawaii)

and water tragedies. In Chinese Astrology, even the hour (which are in reality,

two hours blended together) of the Dragon (7am to 9am) can be powerful!

Some examples of serious disasters occurred in hour(s) of Dragon, are the(December) 2004 South Asia Tsunami occurring at 8.30 am and the 911

terrorist attacks in 2001, taking place at 8.40 am in Dragon hour(s). Finally, as

Water sitting on Earth makes muddy water and it creates circumstance for

virus and epidemic spreading. In the last Water Dragon year (1952) had

57,628 cases of polio reported in the USA alone. This year we may expect

sicknesses such as malaria, food poisoning, stomach problem and kidney

problems (Kidneys are tied to Water in Chinese medicine) to occur.

The positive quality of Water Dragon year is it starts a constructive cycle and

ends the destructive cycle that we have been in since 1992. The last two yearsof 2010 and 2011 are years of Metal attacking Wood. As Wood element is

symbol of trees and the environment, there had been serious destruction to

the environment, such as BP oil leak in 2010, and the crisis at the Fukushima

Nuclear Power Stations (triggered by a tsunami which hit during the Dragon

hour) in 2011. Finally these two Metal Wood years are over, and the Water

Dragon year (Water & Earth/Wood) can create! It will be beneficial to the

growth of trees, and the progress in environmental protection.

Yang Water is a generous element and a powerful driving force towards

progress & social changes, so it will be energetic year with new movements &

reforms in politics and social establishment. Also there could be generous

donations towards charitable goals and for the well being of the community.2012 is also an Election year; there will be Presidential election in USA, in

Russia, in Taiwan, in France, in India, as well as Election of Chief Executive in

as its Money element, but sees Dragon Earth as competitor. Metal industries

(banking, machinery, engineering, computer, and high tech industries) are

active but not making obvious profit as their Money element, Wood, is absent.

Water industries (shipping, communication, drinks, and spa) will enter a

cautious & unstable year, as their Money element, Fire, is completely absent.

Fire industries (stock market, finance, energy, entertainment) may not be

doing very well, as their money element, Metal, is absent and the Strong

Water suppresses optimism in the financial market. So as Fire is absent from

the year, it will be a false fix regarding EU and many countries stock markets

(Some countries are favoured by Dragon will be stronger).

In Sung Dynasty (960 1279 CE) texts, the dragon is described as having the

head of an ox, muzzle of a donkey, eyes of a shrimp, horns of a deer, body of a

serpent covered with fish scales, and feet of a phoenix. The dragon usually

clutches a pearl symbolic of its super-natural powers. Invariably accompanied

by thunder and rain, dragons move like lightning and whirlwinds - all powerful,

yet totally unpredictable.

Add to it, that certain animal (such as Dragon) years add more complexities

(see some listed above) making general forecasts harder to summarize. For a
