Choosing Wisely: Can it work?
The Choosing Wisely initiative is an exciting innovation that seeks to avoid unnecessary treatment. Supported by the ABIM Foundation and with grants from Robert Wood Johnson, Choosing Wisely challenges medical specialties to create lists of the top five treatments and tests that patients should question. 60 specialty societies have now joined the campaign, and Consumer Reports is developing materials for patients to help then understand evidence-based medicine and to empower them to question their physicians. How realistic is this initiative?
