HIGHLIGHTS IN 2008

Under the tagline “Improving Life for the Global Village”, the CeBIT Global Conferences addressed issues of topical interest across the ICT industry. Distinguished speakers pre-sented their visions for information technology, fi nance & controlling, marketing & sales, human resources, manufacturing and procurement & logistics. Topical issues such as the sustainable use of modern information and communication technologies for business and society were discussed by speakers and visitors. The CeBIT Global Conferences served to attract additional target groups to Hannover from all sectors of industry, including profes-sionals working in purchasing, marketing, sales, PR and controlling.

Energy effi ciency and environmental protection are important issues today, not least for the ICT industry – where they offer substantial business potential. With this year’s “green IT” presentation CeBIT has created the fi rst-ever platform for the digital business community to address this central social challenge. CeBIT presented a range of solutions and innovations for cutting carbon emissions. From power-saving laptops to computer centres with a small carbon footprint – in 2008 exhibitors in Hannover showed that the ICT industry acknowledges its environmental responsibilities, and is facing up to them with imagination and resourcefulness.

The world’s leading ICT show once again proved an all-round success. New additions to the program such as green IT and the new-look CeBIT Global Conferences, plus strong growth in all display categories and the successful introduction of new themes, have further strengthened CeBIT’s leading position in the marketplace.

PLAN TO SUCCEED ON EVERY LEVEL

Hannover is where the top people from government, science and high-tech industry come together. CeBIT is fast becoming the Davos of the ICT industry.

August-Wilhelm Scheer, BITKOM

10 www.cebit.com

Last year’s cutting-edge high-tech is this year’s standard product line. This is why CeBIT is always looking for new trends, which it then explores in the world’s No.1 market-place. For 2009 a number of important themes have already emerged, which will create and profi tably exploit new market potential. For example:

Digitalization and mobility are changing our lives at an increasingly rapid pace. Web 2.0 is changing the face of the media world. Sales worth billions are now being transacted over the Internet. Business processes and workplaces are going mobile, while the demand for web-based business solutions continues to rise. CeBIT is actively promoting the trend towards mobility with the new display category Internet & Mobile Solutions.

eLearning and knowledge management are playing an ever greater role in business, science, administration and education. The eLearning section of the show refl ects the new mood of optimism at CeBIT – reason enough to develop and extend this section further in 2009.

A HOT TOPIC AT CeBIT 2009: webciety

CeBIT 2009 will document the workings of the Internet in full, pulling together all the dynamic trends that are turning the information superhighway into a global meta-medium.

The Internet is revolutionizing business processes at an accelerating rate, and entering into every area of our lives. It is – quite simply – the dominant theme of our age.

THE webciety AREA IN HALL 6

Web 2.0 is the next-generation Internet, very different in terms of the way we use it and perceive it. New technical developments, new content and broader access have generated new applications that have revolutionized Internet usage. The webciety is here to stay.

Here at CeBIT, we give a home to companies that see networking and communication as their world. Virtual companies have no showroom, no shop window. But once a year, we can change all that. Your “homebase” can be here at CeBIT – designed in the visual language of the Web, with a presentation supported by sophisticated lighting and projection effects.

This is the place to display your solutions for Web 2.0 /Enterprise 2.0: new trends, innova-tions, business models, blogs, wikis, social networks, social software, user-generated and professional content… Keynote addresses, platform discussions, BarCamp, …the webciety Forum is the meeting place of choice for industry experts, suppliers and end users. Come and be a part of the community!

13www.cebit.com

Identifying trends, responding to challenges – for a number of years now CeBIT has been focusing not just on technologies and products, but also on complete solutions for concrete applications. An approach that has proved extremely popular with visitors and exhibitors alike.

MAKE SURE OF YOUR PLACE AT THE HEART OF THE ICT INDUSTRY

BENEFIT FROM A CLEAR DISPLAY STRUCTURE

Such a vast array of exhibits needs to be structured and organized into clearly defi ned – and clearly marked – display categories. New additions to CeBIT as from 2009 will include the fast-growing segment Internet & Mobile Solutions.

Any successful company that doesn’t exhibit at CeBIT is making a mistake.

LeadSuccessUse the LeadSuccess system to follow up your post-show business leads quickly and con-veniently. Just scan in details of your trade visitors at your stand and keep a digital record of your discussion notes.

Deutsche Messe Mailing ServiceWe can assist you with the preparation and realization of bulk visitor mailings. THE IF LABEL – A HIGHLY RESPECTED GLOBAL BRAND

For more than 50 years iF Industrie Forum Design e.V. and iF International Forum Design GmbH have had an established presence at the Hannover Exhibition Grounds. These inde-pendent design organizations have played a crucial role in mediating between the design community and industry. The annual iF design awards have contributed signifi cantly to the success of many design services – both in the business world and in terms of promoting a greater awareness of design in the public at large. Furthermore, the coveted iF label is employed by companies as a valuable marketing tool – a visible indicator of high quality in products and services, and a useful point of reference for buyers in the marketplace.

The iF product design award, for example, currently attracts nearly 3,000 entries from more than 35 countries, making it one of the world’s most important competitions. The winning products, chosen by an international jury of design experts, are put on display at the Hannover Exhibition Grounds, where they are seen by some 300,000 visitors from all over the world.

And then there is the iF communication design award, which has quickly established itself as one of the top international competitions, and is now seen as a reliable indicator of the latest trends in communication design.

The iF concept award, an international competition for young designers, refl ects the de-manding standards that students are now expected to meet. And business enterprises view the competition as a worthy cause that they are only too pleased to sponsor.

Another major focus of iF’s activities is the devising and organization of events that high-light outstanding design and visions for a global world. These include (for example) the special design and technology display “design: driving innovation”, which is taking place for the second time at CeBIT 2009.

iF is also the driving force behind the sporting event “CeBIT Charity Run”, which is like-wise being staged for the second time in March 2009 at CeBIT. Participants can choose to run once or twice around the 7 km circuit on the Exhibition Grounds – or complete three laps for the half-marathon. Again, the event offers great sponsorship opportunities for businesses wanting to adopt a high profi le at next year’s CeBIT.
