Cervicalcanceristhefourthmostcommoncancerinwomenandtheseventhmostcommoncanceroverall.In2012,worldwide,thereareestimatedtohavebeen528000newcases.Likewithlivercancer,alargemajority(around85%)oftheglobalburdenoccursinthelessdevelopedregions,wherecervicalcanceraccountsforalmost12%ofallcancersinfemales.High-riskregions,withestimated2012age-standardizedincidenceratesofmorethan30casesper100000females,includeeasternAfrica(42.7cases),Melanesia(33.3cases),southernAfrica(31.5cases),andcentralAfrica(30.6cases).IncidenceratesarelowestinAustralia/NewZealand(5.5cases)andwesternAsia(4.4cases).CervicalcancerremainsthemostcommoncancerinwomenineasternandcentralAfrica.

In2012,worldwide,therewereanestimated266000deathsfromcervicalcancer,accountingfor7.5%ofallcancerdeathsinfemales.Almost9in10cervicalcancerdeaths(87%)occurinthelessdevelopedregions.Mortalityvariesbyafactorof18acrosstheregionsoftheworld,with2012mortalityratesrangingfromlessthan2deathsper100000femalesinwesternAsia,westernEurope,andAustralia/NewZealandtomorethan20deathsper100000femalesinMelanesia(20.6deaths),centralAfrica(22.2deaths)andeasternAfrica(27.6deaths).
