lingers. Created by the retreat of a vast glacier, these deep crevices formed when rock massessplit away from the shoreline cliffs. Nearbyboulders reveal fossilized plants and dolomitelayers that provide a snapshot of the ancientsea bottom from more than 400 million yearsago. Today, the caves shelter black bear, squirrels, weasels and hardy plants growing inthe dim light. The park is also home tothousands of red garter snakes that spendwinter below the frost line then emerge inspring for a spectacular mating ritual.Clearwater Lake Provincial offers a self-guidingtrail with stairways and viewing platforms toobserve this impressive geological marvel.
