With the maximum of fivehandsets registered to the

are available from BT Shops and theSynergy Helpline 0845 602 1041.
Do not try to use any other powersupply except the one provided,otherwise you may permanentlydamage your Synergy 2150. It may alsoinvalidate approval of this apparatus.To get a replacement Synergy 2150base station power supply unit – ItemCode 872073 – contact the SynergyHelpline 0845 602 1041.
There is a slight chance yourphone could be damaged byan electrical storm. We
recommend that you unplug yourSynergy 2150 from the mains powerand telephone socket during storms.
The Synergy 2150 willproduce a certain amount ofheat during operation.
Equally, the handset as well as anyadditional chargers you purchase canalso become warm during charging.We advise against placing theseproducts on antique, veneered orwooden surfaces as damage may occur.
Do not use the Synergy 2150in damp, humid conditionssuch as bathrooms. Do not
expose the equipment or batteries tofire and water.
Do not dispose of usedbatteries with generalhousehold rubbish and do not
burn them.
Do not use the handsets inplaces where there areexplosive hazards.
If you wear a hearing aid,please note that the Synergy2150 works by sending radio
signals between the base station andhandset. These signals can interferewith hearing aids, causing a hummingnoise.
We advise that this product should notbe used near emergency intensive caremedical equipment and should not beused by individuals with pacemakers.Synergy 2150 can interfere with otherelectrical equipment, e.g. answeringmachines, TV and radio sets, clockradio/alarms and computers if placedtoo close. It is recommended that youplace your Synergy 2150 at least onemetre away from such appliances tominimise any risk of interference.Make sure you connect the power andtelephone lines to the correct socketsin the base station.Clean the handset and base station witha damp (not wet) cloth or antistaticwipe. Never use a dry cloth as thismay cause a static shock. Never spraycleaning fluid directly onto the telephone.

Plan the location of yourSynergy 2150
Your Synergy 2150 works by sendingand receiving radio signals betweenthe base station and the handset.
The strength of the signal can dependon where you site the base station.Generally, the higher the base stationis located the better. An upstairs roomis ideal.
The following points should beconsidered:• It should be within 3 metres of a
power socket and phone socketotherwise extension cables will berequired.
• Try to avoid locations near metallicobstructions or electrical appliances,such as TV sets, fridges, computers,fluorescent lights, radiators, metalpipes and metal window frames.
1 Connect the power cable
Plug the power cable into the powersocket on your Synergy base station.
Plug the adaptor into the mains powersupply and switch on. The power lightcomes on and starts to flash. This willcontinue flashing until the Day & Timeare set (see page 22).
Setting upFollow these steps to set up your Synergy 2150 ready for use.
The Synergy 2150 uses a nickel metalhydride (NiMH) battery pack supplied.Take care to connect the battery asshown and replace the battery cover.
2Install the rechargeablebattery in the handset
Please noteThe Synergy 2150 has a range of
up to 300 metres outdoors and up to 50 metres indoors. It is possible that the range may be affected by being near water (e.g. large ponds, lakes and the sea) as well as large metal
objects (e.g. radiators, metal partitionwalls and steel girders).

Battery performanceTo keep your battery in the bestcondition, leave the handset off thebase station for a few hours at a time(after the initial 16 hour charge).After charging your Synergyhandset for the first time,subsequent charging time for thebattery is approximately 4-5 hours. Battery and case maybecome warm during charging. This is normal and not dangerous.Note: Once the handset is fullycharged the red charging light willgo off.Under ideal conditions, the handsetbattery should give about 12 hourstalktime (7 hours in handsfreemode) or 150 hours standby on asingle charge. Please note, however, that a newNiMH battery does not reach its fullcapacity until it has been in normaluse for several days.Please note that while the NiMHrechargeable battery can beexpected to give years of servicethey do not last forever. Their actual lifespan depends on how heavily they are used but overtime, their capacity to recharge willbegin to diminish and they willeventually need replacing.
Battery low warning.If the handset battery symbol isempty and flashing, and you hear a warning beep every 10 seconds,you will need to recharge yourhandset before you can use it.
3Charge the handset batteryfor at least 16 hours
Before you use your Synergy 2150 forthe first time, it is important to havethe handset battery fully charged. We recommend that you leave theSynergy 2150 on charge for at least 16 hours.
Place the handset on the base. The redcharging light comes on. The handsetshould come pre-registered to thebase station as HS1 and this is shownin the top right corner of the display.
The battery symbol is also shown. It flashes during charging. Once thehandset is fully charged, the displayshows a full battery symbol.

You can store up to 20 of your mostimportant or frequently dialled numbersin your Synergy’s phonebook.
Stored numbers can be up to 25 digitslong and each one must have a nameallocated to it. The maximum numberof characters in the name field is 12.
To ensure that the Caller Displayfacility operates correctly you shouldalways enter the full telephone numberinto the phone book, including thearea code, for example 0845602641.
All entries in the phonebook are listedin alphabetical order.

As soon as the base station isconnected and fully charged, youranswering machine is ready for use.
It comes with a pre-recorded answer/record announcement: “Hello, your callcannot be taken at the moment, so pleaseleave your message after the tone”. Youcan use this announcement or recordone of your own (see page 24).
As well as recording incomingmessages your Synergy 2150 canrecord memos for other users (seepage 28) and allows you to skipthrough or delete your messages.
You can access your messages fromany Synergy 2100 Additional handsetor any external TouchTone telephone.
You will need to set the day and timeso that you will know when eachmessage was received.

If a call arrives when thememory is full the displaywill show Memory full andthe caller will hear that theirmessage cannot be taken.

You can switch on and operate youranswering machine from any otherTouchTone telephone to play yourmessages and memos.
To keep your messages private, youwill need to enter your 4-digit securityPIN code before you can access yourmessages.
The pre-set security code is 0000 butit is advisable to change this, see page26 to change your security code.
You can keep a record of the newnumber in the box printed in the frontof this guide.

If you have your ring countset to 4 rings, then you cantell if you have any newmessages before the machineanswers.

To use Call Waiting
You can answer the secondcall, without disconnectingyour first caller, by pressingthe CALL WAITING button.The first caller will be put on hold.
When you have spoken tothe second caller you canreturn to the first caller bypressing the CALL WAITINGbutton again. You can switch
back and forth between thetwo calls withoutdisconnecting either if youwish.
If you wish to disconnect the first call press the ENDbutton after speaking to thefirst caller.
The handset will then ring.Press the TALK button again and continue with thesecond caller.

Using additional handsetsRegistering an additional Synergy handset with the base stationor de-registering a handset.
As well as your original handset, you can register up to a further 4additional handsets to your Synergy2150 base station.
The system allows internal callsbetween two handsets while a third ismaking an external call.
Each additional handset you purchasemust be registered with the basestation.
Please noteRemember to charge the batteries ofnew handsets for at least 16 hours.
When switched on, a new additionalhandset will display Not SUB.
This tells you that the handset is not yet registered with the base station.
At the handset:
Until the display flashesRegistration.
Press to display the availablebase station names BASE 1-4.
If your handset is alreadyregistered to another base,then the display shows ✱next to the base name.
When a free base stationnumber is displayed. Displaythen shows Searching andthe base station number.
When the handset hasdetected the base stationsignal, it gives a confirmationring. You are asked to enterthe base station PIN.

The LED will stop flashing(unless there are newmessages).

Operating with additionalbase stationsYou can use up to five handsets oneach Synergy 2150 base station, andup to four base stations with yourhandset to build up a comprehensivecordless telephone system.
The handset supplied with each basestation is already registered as HS1.
You can register a handsetwith up to 3 other basestations.
Follow the same steps shownon page 41, ensuring thatyou select a base station thatis free i.e. one that has no ✱against it.
Press and hold the PAGEbutton on the base stationyou want to register yourhandset to. It sends a uniquesignal and your handset willautomatically accept it as thenext base station.
To avoid confusion you maywish to allocate a differentname from your original base.This can be done by followingthe steps on page 40.

handset number may not appear in the handset display.

To enter a PSTN pre-fix code Please noteEach time the PSTN pre-fix code is
dialled a pause will automatically beinserted before the telephone
number is dialled.
With some switchboards it may be helpful to dial a pause after entering the PSTN pre-fix code eg: 9,11 etc. to enable you to get an outside line. However, your Synergy 2150 can enter a pause automatically for you.

Maintenance
Simply clean your Synergy 2150 witha damp cloth (not wet) or an antistaticwipe. Never use a dry cloth as thismay cause a static shock.
Pack the unit securely, preferably inthe original packaging. All parts mustbe returned including the mains poweradaptor. We cannot take responsibilityfor goods damaged in transit.
Within guaranteeIf you experience a problem with yourSynergy 2150 you should contact theSynergy Helpline on 0845 602 1041.Calls are charged at local call rates. If the problem is not remedied, you willbe advised to contact your originalpoint of purchase.

Emergency callsThe emergency services can be
contacted in the UK by dialling 999or 112 which is valid in any country
that is a member of the Europeancommunity.
Please noteIf your Synergy 2150 is connected to a switchboard/PBX, you may have
to dial an access number before 999 tocontact the emergency services. Someswitchboards cannot dial out during
a power failure.
The Synergy 2150 will not work when the power fails. Alternativearrangements should be made for
access to emergency services.

No ring on the handset or base stationThe ringer volume may be switched tosilent. To adjust the ringer volume onthe handset, see page 35, on the basestation, see page 37.
Check that that the base station isplugged into the phone socket.
Replacing the handset batteryAfter a time, you may find that thehandset battery is running out ofcharge more quickly. This is a standardsign of wear and the battery will needreplacing.
Spare batteries (Item Code 871996)are available from BT Shops orcontact the Synergy 2150 Helpline0845 602 1041.
Do not immerse batteries in water orthrow them into a fire, or dispose ofthem with ordinary domestic refuse.

Buzzing noise on my radio, TV,computer or hearing aidSometimes, your Synergy 2150 caninterfere with other electricalequipment if it is placed too close.
It is recommended that you placeyour Synergy 2150 and other Synergyhandsets at least one metre away fromsuch appliances to avoid any risk ofinterference.

Technical information
EnvironmentYour Synergy 2150 should be kept freeof dust, moisture, high temperature,vibration and should not be exposedto direct sunlight. Do not stand it oncarpets or other surfaces whichgenerate fibres or place it in locationswhich prevent the free flow of air overits surfaces.
If the power fails Alternative arrangements should bemade for access to emergency services.
How many phones can you have?All items of telephone equipment havea Ringer Equivalence Number (REN),which is used to calculate the numberof items which may be connected toany one telephone line. The Synergy2150 has a REN of 1. Any otherinstrument provided by BT may beassumed to have a REN of 1 unlessotherwise stated. A total REN of 4 isallowed.
Connection to the BT telephonenetworkSynergy 2150 is fully approved forconnection to the BT network providedit is used according to the instructionsin this guide. The telephone lines mustprovide Multi-frequency (Touch Tone)dialling capabilities.
It may be connected to Direct ExchangeLines and switchboards (PBXs) withnew plan (plug and socket)arrangements.
Connecting to switchboardsSynergy 2150 is only approved for usewith a compatible switchboardincluding those which do not providesecondary proceed indication.
If you would like a list of suitableswitchboards, contact BT on 154.
If you do not have a compatibleswitchboard, it cannot be guaranteedthat the product will operate correctlyunder all possible conditions ofconnection. If you have any difficulties,contact BT on 154.
Generally, Synergy 2150 can beconnected to any switchboard where asimple modern telephone can be usedto make and receive calls. Synergy 2150is suitable for connection toswitchboards which return secondaryproceed indication.
WarningThe apparatus is designed to be
operated in a normal office or domesticenvironment where the relativehumidity does not exceed 75%.
It should not be used in bathrooms or near water.
