School Spells Success!Led by the hard work and desire of the students and those who want to make a better future for themselves, the President of the College announces that the school is successful. “By just about every conceivable measure, our school is successful,” said President Staropoli. The key, of course, is in getting students to attend classes. When measuring the factors that support his assessment, we include: accreditation scores, attendance, job placement, graduation rates, retention, grades and the recruitment of quality faculty. “People have got to do what they say in order for us to continue our success,” said Staropoli.

Shawn Taylor, A

Director on a

Mission

“Students, faculty and staff are getting it done.”

Taylor became a hero to the College when she stepped in for President Staropoli and conducted the Graduation on behalf of the Administration. In that role, she articulated the pride, honor and dignity that represent graduation from Brightwood College of Towson.

College Scores a 96 out of 100!After a 4 day internal audit in which twelve different aspects of the college were analyzed by evaluators, Brightwood College of Towson was given a score of 96 out of 100. The audit, which included the academic program, administration and student outcomes included both hard data and personal interviews. They also looked at everything from the library and homework to surveys about graduates by their employers and admissions/financial aid. Brightwood College of Towson earned straight A’s across the board. Typical expected results of students who come to class,

do their work and have an attitude focused on success.

Lofton selected to

run Allied Health

Program.Brightwood College of Towson is extremely pleased to announce the promotion of Jacqueline Lofton from Externship Coordinator to Program Director, Allied Health. “Jackie’s experience, connections, ability to work with the students and superior organization skills made her the best candidate out there,” said Dean Sheron Travers.

“Auditors conclude, College is Excellent.”

“In everything we have asked her to do, she has done an excellent job we are fortunate to have had her on our staff. She was in the right place at the right time.”

CJ Program vs. CNT/CST

in Gun Simulator Contest

The students of the Criminal Justice Program have challenged the Computer students in a contest to see who is the best at the virtual reality gun simulator. “We have done this before and we always win,” said CNT major Amanda Marks. But CJ major John Halkias said “there is no way we are going to let a bunch of propeller heads beat us at handguns.”

Dean Travers holds it together.Dean Sheron Travers of Brightwood College in Towson is a master at triage. Triage is when confronted with multiple options, a person is able to prioritize and organize and solve problems in order from most important to least. This means that she is an excellent person for students to turn to when they are in trouble. “I can work with students who tell me what is going on” says Dean Travers “and problems can be solved if there is just enough time.” Students are encouraged to stay in touch with their faculty and Dean while attending Brightwood College of Towson.

Career Services is

worth your time.“Its all about getting a job isn’t it?” asks Career Services Coordinator Stacey Polk, “I mean you put in all those hours, all that money, the sacrifice and stress, you want a job that leads to a career at the end don’t you?”“Yes, because a Job means ‘just over broke’” interjects Campus President Jeremiah Staropoli “you want a career, and the only you are going to get that and live a better life is through education. I started out working on highways with tar in the sun all day,” he continues “and years later I saw my old boss and he was still struggling and the only difference between us is that I got my Ph.D., I got an education.” If you want to put your education to work for you then visit Stacey Polk in Career Services today.

“No one more qualified in a crisis.”

“I tell you what,” said Campus Administrator Peter Brooks, “there isn’t anyone I would rather be around in a crisis more than Dean Sheron Travers.” He continued “I have seen her in many impossible situations and she always steps up her game and improves everyone around her so students can make it through.”

Students Flocking to Johns Hopkins!

The College is going to host a Christmas party featuring Santa Claus and lots of activities for kids on Saturday, December 3rd 2016. “We wanted an opportunity to have another open house and celebrate with our students and families” said Campus President Jeremiah Staropoli. The last event, the Fall Festival organized by Mrs. Downs was a huge success as over 100 people enjoyed food, fun and fellowship. Based on that event this one promises to be just as awesome.

“Major Employer sees Value in Brightwood Graduates.”

Marshall Ott

“He is checking his list and checking it twice.”

Party Dec. 3rd.

The College lost an excellent Career Services Director when Stacy Polk went on maternity leave. During the interim, Career Services will be handled by Mr. Marshall Ott who is on loan to our campus from Brightwood Beltsville. “Stacy is doing an outstanding job and I intend to keep the momentum she built going until she returns in January” said Ott.

Baltimore’s second largest employer, the Johns Hopkins University Medical System is increasing the rate by which they hire Brightwood College graduates. “Usually it just takes one bad placement for an employer to reject all future applicants from that institution,” said Campus President Jeremiah Staropoli, “but with Johns Hopkins the opposite is true, our students are doing very good work after they graduate and so employers like Hopkins are pleased with the quality of our graduates.”

Get a H.S. Diploma at Brightwood!

“Penn Foster is one of the largest accredited High Schools in the nation, last year they graduated 25,000 students nationwide,” said Campus President Jeremiah Staropoli. “The fact that you can come here 2 or 3 days a week and get your diploma in as little as 2 months is going to have a big impact on the lives of many young people who want to get ahead in life and earn more money” he continued.

College is hard. There is not only learning something new, but balancing school, family and work is not easy. With that in mind the administration at Brightwood College of Towson boiled down the three keys to success for students. 1. Show up2. Do the work3. Work together (cooperate)

We feel if students can just do these three things they will be successful in school and in life.

“Convenient, fast, easy & cheap.”

Students Respond

“This could be you.”

3 Keys to success.

It’s a known fact that students with the H.S. Diploma earn $1,600 more per month than those with GED. With that in mind, Brightwood College is proud to partner with the Penn-Faster High School of Pennsylvania to offer the High School Diploma to those who complete the new Pathways Program being offered in Towson.

Graduating is one of the greatest feelings. Everyone should experience it.

Enrollment is increasing, drops are declining and graduation rates are up as students faculty and staff are responding positively to the college experience. “The real secret,” according to President Staropoli “is to do what you say and to pay attention to everything.”

Externship Program #1 in the State!

.

Dr. Jeremiah Staropoli announces the hiring of Mr. Brian Lowe who joins Shane Downes and Kyle Barnett in the financial aid office at Brightwood College, Towson. In addition to his years of experience in financial aid, Brian also can give advice to students on wide range of topics ranging from personal finance to fantasy football. “Brian quickly became the go to guy whenever anyone on staff needs to learn the skinny about something,” said Campus Administrator Peter Brooks. “He seems to always know what is going on or the best way to approach a problem.”

MBC Program is

Growing

Brian Lowe has worked at several colleges before coming to Brightwood, Towson.

Brian Lowe, a wealth of

experience.

For the second time this year the Brightwood College of Towson Externship to Hire Achievement ratio is at or better than 44%. This means that nearly half of all students who do an externship end up with a full-time at the site where they apprenticed. “Our percentage is the best among Brightwood Colleges and the best in the state of Maryland” said Campus President Jeremiah Staropoli.

The Externship program is really just an opportunity for students to get some professional experience at the most basic level. Brightwood College Towson students however are so impressive that the work sites are hiring our students right on the spot. This is an extraordinary achievement.

Increasing numbers of students are choosing a career in Medical Billing and Coding at Brightwood College, Towson as enrollment numbers have continued to climb. “I think people see this as a career choice, with interesting challenges and plenty of opportunities for independence” said

Program Director Lisa Williams. “And as our graduates become more successful, that success just feeds off of itself which is good for everybody.”

Enrollment increases by 100 Students!

.

“Most of the people who come to school here are looking to change their lives,” said Director of Admissions Shawn Taylor. “Whatever they have been doing is not working and they see the opportunities out there and they know that they can do it, they just have to make the commitment. "That's why we say there are only 3 things you have to do: 1. Show up. 2. Do the work. 3. Work together. If you can commit to these three things then you will be successful here at Brightwood College, Towson. Pease consult with the admissions department if you or somebody you know might be interested in attending Brightwood College, Towson.

Campus Celebrates

Halloween in StyleChange your life - today.

Student enrollment at Brightwood College of Towson is up by 100 students over what the population was this time last year. “This means that everyone here is getting it done, the students are getting jobs, the faculty are educating and the staff are putting people in positions where they can be successful,” said Campus President Jeremiah Staropoli. “But we can’t let our foot off the pedal we have

to remember that there are still more people out there who need our help; both employers and young people. We are like bridge that connects young people with opportunity and supplies companies with talent. All indicators are that we are successful and the increased enrollment means we fulfill an important role in the larger society,” said Staropoli.

Faculty Emphasize Active LearningUnder a directive from the Campus President, Brightwood College of Towson faculty are directed to emphasize Active Learning techniques in the classroom. “We want all our students to have the experience of a hands on education” said Academic Dean Sheron Travers. “Its an opportunity for students to demonstrate what they are learning, bond together in teams to solve problems and generate excitement about the subject,” she continued. Campus President, Dr. Jeremiah Staropoli kicked off the initiative with a training session for the faculty that demonstrated specific active learning techniques. “The objective here is to create a phenomenal experience for our students in the classroom so they retain and use all that they learn in school after they graduate” said Staropoli.

Students and faculty were treated to a homemade pancake and sausage breakfast by the administration at the start of the new quarter.

“Brightwood Students to learn by doing.”

The breakfast also featured fresh fruit, orange and apple juice and fresh coffee. “I wish we could do this everyday” said Campus Administrator Peter Brooks.

IT Program

Upgrades

In addition to the new faculty, the CNT/CST is also slated to get updated servers, RAM upgrades and a total curriculum refresh. Part of the process has included inviting professionals on campus to evaluate the institution. One of the things the advisors to the program have consistently emphasized is the importance of getting the A+ Certification prior to graduation.

“The students ate and drank

Students “Getting it Done!”Students in each of the three different subject areas, Criminal Justice, IT and Allied Health are getting their work done according to the faculty. “I have 16 assignments to do” said student Robin Hughes “and even though its hard, I know I am going to get everything finished on time.”“The students are doing good, real good” said Mr. David Harvin an instructor in the Allied Health Program. “They know they have to do the work or else take the class again,” he continued. Students who are struggling with the work load or attendance are encouraged to reach out to their faculty members or the Dean as soon as possible.

IT Program Growing

“Students, faculty and staff are getting it done.”

For example, the program is currently shifting to place greater emphasis on certification which will in turn make students more marketable and able to command higher salaries when they graduate.

CJ Students earn CPR

Certification

When an emergency takes place, people generally look for a uniformed officer or security guard for help. This is true whether its an active shooter or a person who has fainted. Therefore, it makes sense that Criminal Justice students know

More students, more jobs. IT field projected to grow.

New faculty, new curriculum changes, new equipment, and new students, which means new opportunities for more people. The IT Program at Brightwood College in Towson is not just getting a face lift or cosmetic change, instead the department is making fundamental changes to help meet the growing technology needs available in the state of Maryland.

CPR. They also know to call 9-1-1 first, but to be trained in CPR could mean the difference between life and death for someone. Its especially hard on Security Officers because everyone is looking to you to know what to do. Well now our students know, and they are ready, just look at them.

Certification makes students more marketable, and ready to meet challenges.

CJ Saves the Day!In a time when confidence and the overall perception of law enforcement seems to be eroding, the Brightwood College of Towson is leading the charge for change. “The best place to be if you want to change something is to work from within the system” said Campus President Jeremiah Staropoli. With that in mind the classes, faculty, administration and indeed the entire community has come together to help our students become leaders for a new generation of law enforcement professionals.

CJ Program has a Dog on Campus!

.

They have worked in places like the CIA, the U.S. Airforce, the Chrysler Corporation, LEIDOS, and even the front lines of Iraq, but now they work at Brightwood College Towson. “We are very fortunate in that our college is able to recruit such highly esteemed and experienced faculty members for our students,” said Dean Sheron Travers. Part of the appeal has to be for our location, another factor is the quality of our students and the experience when interviewing and Brightwood also represents an opportunity for a career change into education.

FAS gets Upgrade!

While he is teaching classes, many believe Professors like Tracy Covington (above) are also recruiting for IT positions in the industry. Many companies pay a bonus for talent referrals.

New Faculty Excite Students

Professor Charles Williams arranged for the Criminal Justice Program to have a dog visit campus. Accompanied by Sheriff Wilson, “Buddy” was on campus demonstrating his job as a Criminal Justice professional. “He actually is a courtroom dog that specializes in detecting explosives” explained Williams who arranged for the site visit. “Our goal was to show the Criminal Justice majors what resources are available to them after they graduate” he continued. Many options are open for students with an education in Criminal Justice and unlike Buddy who will always be a demolition specialist a student with a degree can do just abut anything they want within the field.

The Megget Firearm Simulator (FAS) has gotten a huge software upgrade orchestrated by campus President Jeremiah Staropoli. “There are a lot of entirely new scenarios, locations and situations and the production value seems to be better,” said Staropoli.

The President has asked that CJ Faculty make more use of the FAS.

Iced Tea and Coffee for students!

In a unique program to test student performance, retention and overall campus satisfaction, Brightwood College of a Towson is offering complimentary coffee and iced tea to its students while on campus. The program is the brainchild of campus President Jeremiah Staropoli “we want this to be a phenomenal educational experience for our students,” said Staropoli, “and if you try this iced tea, I think you would have to agree, its pretty phenomenal.” It is hoped that a little refreshment before class or during a break will help stimulate students academic performance and encourage them work harder.

Hot Coffee and Iced Tea are now available n the student break room on a trial basis to see if it helps students.

also has to be considered the Campus Ombudsman, counselor, student affairs specialist and historian. “Mrs. Cree is always there if you need someone to talk to,” said Dean of Academic Affairs Sheron Travers.

Campus Honors Veterans

In honor of America’s birthday on July 4, LRC Coordinator and instructor Jean Scott organized a celebration to honor all of our students who are veterans. Criminal Justice student Rosalyn Ruffin, who is also a veteran and a sang the National Anthem and other veterans were asked to speak to the student body in a moving ceremony just after the holiday. Pizza was served.

Fall Festival is the BOMB!The event, which was the brainchild of M.A. instructor Dionysia Downs was really done “because the students wanted the opportunity to do something with their families,” said Mrs. Downs. Several videos from the event have gone viral on Facebook.

The Moon Bounce is always a hit.

The Department of Career Services at Brightwood College of Towson reports “the students who are willing to do the work and be persistent are getting jobs,” according to Stacy Polk the new Director. Since employers are visiting the campus now on a regular basis, students are asked to dress professionally and conduct themselves in serious manner. Students are also reminded that faculty and staff are often asked by employers about the students.

“Plenty of food, plenty of fun.”

Students Respond

“Make sure we have good things to say when they call for you.”

Graduates are

getting Jobs.Faculty are increasing academic rigor in the classrooms and students are responding by winning awards and increasing attendance. “The classes are hard, but I think I am going to make it because my teacher is helping me and answering my questions,” said one CNT student. Students are asked to contact their faculty by phone or email if they will miss class.

Students, faculty, staff and their families all had an opportunity to have fun for free at the Brightwood College Fall Festival. Vendors, visitors, and even a live DJ were present to make sure

there was something for everyone. “Anytime we can do something that helps our students feel like they are part of a college community, I think makes a big difference in academic performance, attendance, and student success, said Campus President Jeremiah Staropoli.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE June 4, 2016

COLLEGE EDUCATES ELEMENTARY SCHOOL STUDENTS

Brightwood College Program on Nutrition, Science and Life Support

Baltimore, MD, June 4, 2016– Brightwood College of Towson’s students, faculty, administration and

alumni focused its educational efforts on the Baltimore children’s afterschool program at the James

Gross Recreation Center in West Baltimore. The Friday afternoon event featured classes in nutrition,

the science of criminal justice, CPR and chess as well as a number of other fun activities organized by the

College.

“I have done a lot of events similar to this over the years, and this was the best I have ever seen in terms

of its impact, programming, participation and general fun factor,” said campus President Jeremiah

Staropoli.

The activity lasted from 2-5pm and was organized by Campus Externship Coordinator Jaqueline Lofton.

“We wanted to have diverse activities at various stations so that the children would get exposed to a

number of different academic disciplines to support what they experience in the classroom,” said

Lofton. She utilized the faculty in Criminal Justice to produce an actual crime scene in which the young

people would perform a forensic analysis, the Allied Health faculty taught basic CPR and the Admissions

office presented healthy food recipes, samples and snacks. Other stations included teaching the kids

how to play Chess, a checkers board, a collage table, and a faculty/staff created obstacle course.

All the students won awards and were given medals for participation and winning.

“We want to do this every quarter” said Staropoli, “and the next event will feature a game of Jeopardy

that our Computer Technicians will create.”
