BOSSIER CITY - Funeral serv-ices for "Blue" Fred EugeneDeSoto, 54, will be held at 1:00p.m. Saturday, March 31, 2012 atRose-Neath's Southside Chapel.Officiating will be Mr. Jim Owensand Mr. Luke Roark. Intermentwill follow in Forest Park WestCemetery. Visitation with the fam-ily will be from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m.Friday, March 30, 2012.

Fred was born on June 2, 1957in Shreveport, LA to Fred andMaedell Scott DeSoto. He passedaway on March 25, 2012 inBossier City following a lengthyillness.

He was preceded in death by hisfather; Fred DeSoto and mother;Maedell Oxley, sister; JaniceDeSoto Ducote. He is survived byhis loving wife, Sheridan WatsonDeSoto; stepdaughter, JessicaScanlon; granddaughters, Zoe and

Zara; brother Dewayne DeSoto ,sister Brenda DeSoto Nielsen, hus-band Rickey, nephews; Rick andwife Lauren and Eric. His late sis-ter, Janice "Niecee" Ducote's chil-dren, Michael and Alisha and hus-band Shawn; sister JudyMcMinnis, niece Sheila andnephew John. He has many aunts,uncles, cousins, great nieces andgreat nephews and a host offriends.

Honoring Blue as pallbearersare his loving brothers, TheBandido Motorcycle Club. Servingas honorary pallbearers arenephews Eric Nielsen, RickNielsen and John Pilinski, TommyBarber, Steve Dement, JayFontineau and Abie Meshell.

The family extends heartfeltthanks to LSUHSC MedicineTeam 1, 6G/7G Nursing Staff andAgape Hospice.

AT&T Aspire grantnow open to localbusinesses

As access to skilled workersbecomes increasingly vital to theU.S. economy, AT&T is launch-ing a quarter-billion-dollar cam-paign to help more studentsgraduate from high school readyfor careers and college, and toensure the country is better pre-pared to meet global competi-tion.

AT&T Aspire, already among themost significant U.S. corporateeducational initiatives with morethan $100 million invested since2008, will tackle high schoolsuccess and college/careerreadiness for students at-risk ofdropping out of high schoolthrough a much larger, “sociallyinnovative” approach.

Social innovation goes beyondtraditional philanthropy – whichtypically involves only charitablegiving – to also engage peopleand technology to bring differentapproaches, new solutions andadded resources to challengingsocial problems. The Aspireeffort already has impactedmore than one million U.S. highschool students, helping themprepare for success in the work-place and college.

Between now and April 18,AT&T is encouraging Louisianaorganizations to submit applica-tions to pre-qualify for fundingthrough the Local High SchoolImpact Initiative Requests forProposals (RFPs). AT&T is mostinterested in funding local pro-grams that have strong, evi-dence-based practices ground-ed in the What WorksClearinghouse DropoutPrevention: A Practice Guideand data-driven outcomesdemonstrated to improve highschool graduation rates. “It will take all of us workingtogether and supportingLouisiana educators’ hard workto continue to improve gradua-tion rates and preparedness forfuture careers and college,” saidSonia Perez, AT&T LouisianaPresident. “American businesshas an enormous stake in thesuccess of our students, and itis time to commit more innova-tion and resources to the task.”

The greatly expanded effort cen-ters on a new, $250 millionfinancial commitment plannedover five years. AT&T Aspirewill build on that commitment byusing technology to connect withstudents in new and more effec-tive ways, such as with interac-tive gamification, Web-basedcontent and social media. Thecompany will also tap the inno-vation engine of the AT&TFoundry to look for fresh oratypical approaches to educa-tional obstacles.
