Daman and Diu is a union territory. It was ruled by Portuguese for 450 years. Daman and Diu
are 198 kilometers apart from each other. The two regions are bordered by the state of
Gujarat. This place was a Portuguese colony, so there are so many monuments which are in
Portuguese style and architecture, which are standing straight and being an interest for the

Let’s begin with Daman, it is divided by the Daman Ganga river into two parts, namely Nani –
Daman (small) and Moti – Daman (big), the names caused by border areas of Gujarat. Fort
Jerome is located in Nani Daman is a remarkable place to visit the people. It was
constructed before 4th century ago, but it does not have any breakage significance. It was
constructed to keep a watch on the sea activities and it was named after the St. Jerome,
whose statue is placed on the top of the main entrance. Its main attraction is Church of Our
Lady of the sea, which has remarkable Portuguese style and architecture.
The Bom Jesus Chur h is located in Moti Daman; it was built in 1603, and displays a
remarkable roman styled architecture. It attracts the visitors and pilgrims, both. It was a
parish church in the early Portuguese rule. The main feature of the church is it’s painted a gilt
wooden altar reredos and pulpit. The richly carved main south door with the elevated
facade, lofty ceiling, embellished with the statues of six saints is aesthetic and pleasing.

There is a Nagoa Bea h located near the Bucharwada village; it offers you swimming with
white crystal clear water. It is less crowded beach in Daman and Diu and also offers sports

Fortim Do Mar Diu or Fort of Pani-Kota is located on the small island Simbor. The
fortress has ancient cells and cellars where the prisoners were locked. It is constructed in
the shape of a ship, offshore on the Arabian Sea. It houses a lighthouse and a chapel
dedicated to Our Lady of the “ea . This ancient stone fort is now a major tourist place to
provide an iconic view of the Arabian Sea.

The “t. Paul’s Chur h is located in the Diu on the west coast of India. It was constructed in
1610 AD. It is built in baroque architecture style, with strong similarities of the Bom Jesus
Basilica at Goa built in 1605 AD. But it has a better design than that. The church has carved
wood work in the interior design. The altar, which has the image of St. Mary, is carved out of
a single piece of Burmese teak and is lined and lit up with 101 candles. Above the altar,
there is a “blue-and–white barrel – vaulted nave adorned with precious old paintings and
statues.
The Zampa Gateway is the most tourist attractions; it is a majestic monument which
enthralls the guests with its allure. You are sure to be enchanted by its sublime art and
architecture of this lovely gateway which has the carvings of the lions, angels and also a
priest. It also has an artificial waterfall. Its architecture reminds the art which was the
medium to express the likeness, reverence of the people of erstwhile period.
