После избијања југословенске кризе и нестанка СФРЈ, Влада Индонезије је наредних година у Савезној Републици Југославији именовала отправнике послова у Амбасади у Београду: Сламет Будијади (Slamet Budiadi) (а.i.) 1992–1995; Вибово Аријади (Wibowo Ariadhi) (а.i.) 1995– 1999; Алојсијус Бунтарман (Aloysius Boentarman) (а.i.) 1999–2002.

и Душан Стојковић (а.i.) 1997–2000.

А. Сирегар (Emeriа W.A.

(Ali Marzuki).

Indonesia proclaimed its independence on 17 August 1945, but it continued fighting against the Netherlands until the signing of the Hague Agreement at the end of Round Table Conference between Indonesia and the Netherlands held in the Hague from 23 August until 2 November 1949, containing the recognition of Indonesia (then its official name: the United States of Indonesia/Republik Indonesia Serikat) as a sovereign state by the Netherlands. Based on the documents in the Archives of Yugoslavia, the diplomatic relation between Jakarta and Belgrade started with the recognition of Indonesia by Yugoslavia in 1950.
The Government of the Federal People Republic of Yugoslavia was one of the first countries who recognized the independence of Indonesia. The Indonesian Government in Jakarta was informed about that through the telegram sent by the Vice Prime Minister/Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Federal People Republic of Yugoslavia, Edvard Kardelj, to Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the United States of Indonesia, Drs. Mohammad Hatta, on 1 February 1950, containing the following: “I have the honour to communicate you that the Government of the Federal People Republic of Yugoslavia has decided to recognize the United States of Indonesia as an independent and sovereign state“. The telegram also contained the proposal to open the diplomatic relations between the two countries.
The Indonesian Government in Jakarta expressed its gratitude to Yugoslavia for the recognition of independence and ready to start negotiations in order to establish a full diplomatic relations.
In July 1950 Belgrade requested the “agrement“ from Indonesia for the Yugoslav envoy to Indonesia but received no response from Jakarta and this was interpreted in Belgrade as Indonesia's wish first to regulate its relation with the USSR and other East European countries. It was also estimated that the standpoint of the then Chinese Government was significant for the realization of the idea of establishing full diplomatic relation between Yugoslavia and Indonesia.
When it was superseded, as considered by the top political and state leaders in Belgrade, after more than 4 years the diplomatic relation was established between the two countries. The two countries reached an agreement to establish the diplomatic relation and exchange diplomatic representatives at the envoy level “wishing to boost the relation between the FPR of Yugoslavia and the Republic of Indonesia“, as mentioned in the official statement announced on 4 November 1954 in Belgrade and Jakarta.

Based on the initiative of the Government of the Republic of Indonesia, the diplomatic representative was raised to the Embassy level in accordance with the agreement reached between the two governments on 10 July 1956.
The first diplomatic representative of Yugoslavia to Indonesia at the level of Charge d'Affaires a.i. was Mr. Radoslav Brzic, Counsellor of the State Secretariat of Foreign Affairs of Yugoslavia, who arrived in Jakarta in February 1955.

After 2002, Mr. Ladjuris was appointed as the Ambassador of Indonesia to Yugoslavia, from 2002 to 2005, then followed by Mr. Sutadi Hadiwiyoto, as Charge d'Affaires a.i., from 2005 to 2007, who was also the first Head of diplomatic mission of Indonesia to the Republic of Serbia. Trajkovic, from 1981 to 1986; Ambassador Djordje Jakovljevic, from 1986 to 1989; Ambassador Vjekoslav Koprivnjak, from 1989 to 1992; Ambassador Miloš Beljic, 1992 – 1993 .
As it had been done by the Indonesian Government one year before, in 1993 the Government of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia appointed the following Charge d'Affaires a.i. as the head of mission in Jakarta: Mr. Nenad Zirojevic, from 1993 to 1997, Mr. Dusan Stojkovic, from 1997 to 2000 and then replaced by Dr. Ilija Jankovic as Charge d'Affaires a.i. from 2000 to 2001. From 2001 to 2003, Ambassador of Yugoslavia in Jakarta was Veljko Cagorovic and followed by Ambassador Zoran Kazazovic who had the longest period of assignment, from 2004 to 2011 and was the first Ambassador of the Republic of Serbia to the Republic of Indonesia. The current Ambassador of the Republic of Serbia to the Republic of Indonesia is H.E. Mr. Jovan Jovanovic who is in office from February 2012.
Before the establishment of the diplomatic relation between Yugoslavia and Indonesia, there were contacts between the representatives of the two countries. The representatives of the Socialist Party of Indonesia had several times visited Belgrade. General Secretary of that party, Mr. Sitorus Lintong Muli, had also been received by President of Yugoslavia in Belgrade, in May 1953, and later after that, Minister of Education of the Republic of Indonesia, Mr. Sarmidi Mangun Sarkoro, visited Yugoslavia at the end of October 1953.
After the arrival of the diplomatic representatives of the two countries to Belgrade and Jakarta, the interstate contacts were made towards a close cooperation between the governments of the two countries which opened the possibility for cooperation in the field of economy, trade, culture, military and other. According to the Yugoslav estimate, the similarity of standpoint of the two governments on certain issues was also a significant contribution towards such close cooperation: the policy of active and peaceful coexistence, equal participation of all nations in international life, the elimination of asymmetrical economic development and in relation to that a need for extending economic technical assistance for the development of the economic undeveloped countries, colonial problems and extending support to the emansipation of non independent countries, the implementation of the universality principle of membership in the UN, the reduction of armament and the prohibition of utilization and experiment of nuclear and thermo-nuclear weapons, relation with military pacts and block powers, the role and significance of Bandung Conference and the strengthening of peace in the world, etc. The international affairs and crisis in the near and middle east were also among those issues.
The visits of President Ahmad Sukarno to Yugoslavia in 1956, 1958, 1960, 1961, 1963, 1964 and President Suharto to Yugoslavia in 1975 and 1989, as well as the visit of President Josip Broz Tito to Indonesia in 1958, had contributed to strengthening of bilateral cooperation in the field of politics, diplomacy, economy and other, and to bring close the standpoints of the two governments concerning

individual but important issues in bilateral and international relations. Such close views of Indonesia and Yugoslavia could be witnessed through the personal messages exchanged between the presidents of the two countries.
Beside that, the visit of Prime Minister Djuanda Kartawidjaja of Indonesia, to Belgrade in 1958 and 1960, and the return visits of Vice Prime Ministers of Yugoslavia, Svetozar Vukmanovic Tempo to Jakarta in 1958, and Edvard Kardelj in 1962, contributed to the enlargement of relation between the two countries.
With regard to that, the visits and meetings between Foreign Ministers of Yugoslavia and Indonesia had given a special significance for the whole bilateral relations.
The first Minister of Foreign Affairs of Indonesia who visited Belgrade was H. Roeslan Abdulgani, member of the Indonesian delegation to Yugoslavia during the visit of President Sukarno to Belgrade, in September 1956. Two years later, in January 1958, on the occasion of the second visit of President Sukarno to Belgrade, one of members of the Indonesian delegation was Foreign Minister Subandrio. He also accompanied President Sukarno in his visit to Yugoslavia in April 1960. One year after that, Foreign Minister Subandrio visited again Belgrade in 1961.
Head of the Indonesian diplomacy, Adam Malik, visited Belgrade in September 1966, 1968, in June 1971, in July 1974, and accompanied President Suharto in his visit to Yugoslavia in July 1975. Later after that, Ali Alatas, Head of the Indonesian diplomacy, accompanied President Suharto in the visit to Belgrade to attend the conference of non-aligned countries in Belgrade, from 4 to 8 September 1989. Ali Alatas participated in the meeting of heads of diplomacy of the non-aligned countries preceding the 9th summit of non-alignment. After break of 19 years, Director General for America and Europe of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Indonesia, Ambassador Retno L.P. Marsudi accompanied by Director for Central and East Europe, Ms. Emeria W.A. Siregar, visited Belgrade in June 2008.
At the Ministerial meeting of the non-aligned countries in Belgrade on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the first non-aligned summit in Belgrade, Indonesian Foreign Minister H.M. Marty M. Natalegawa, visited Serbia as the head of the Indonesian delegation to that meeting in September 2011.
The two Foreign Ministers had also meetings during the Ministerial conferences of non-alignment in the third countries as well as during the sessions of the General Assembly of the UN.
Nevertheless, there was no return visit of Yugoslav Foreign Ministers to the visit of Foreign Minister from Jakarta, namely, the return visits were rarely. At the end of 1958 and the beginning of 1959, Assistant Foreign Minister of Yugoslavia, Veljko Micunovic, visited Indonesia to accompany President Josip Broz Tito in his visit to Indonesia. Nine years later, the Deputy State Secretary of Foreign Affairs, Miso Pavicevic, visited Jakarta in 1967. The first Minister of Foreign Affairs of Yugoslavia who visited Indonesia, was Budimir Loncar, in 1990. Ten years after that, in March 2000, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Federal

Republic of Yugoslavia, Zivadin Jovanovic, visited Jakarta and had talked with the Head of the Indonesian diplomacy, Alwi Shihab. That visit was followed by the Foreign Minister of Yugoslavia, Goran Svilanovic, who visited Indonesia in October 2003.
The new page of relation between the Republic of Serbia and the Republic of Indonesia was opened in 2006. In September 2006, there was a meeting in New York between the Foreign Minister of the Republic of Serbia, Vuk Draskovic, and Head of the Indonesian diplomacy, Dr. Hassan Wirayuda. After that, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Serbia, Vuk Jeremic, visited the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Indonesia, Dr. R.M. Marty M. Natalegawa, in March 2008, then in February and May 2011, while Foreign Minister Natalegawa visited Belgrade in September 2011.
In the period of nearly 60 years of diplomatic relations between Belgrade and Jakarta, there was exchange of various visits of economic, military, political party, cultural and parliamentary delegations between Indonesia and Yugoslavia/Serbia. So in March 2013, the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, Nebojsa Stefanovic, visited Indonesia as the guest of the Speaker of the House of Representatives of Indonesia. At the beginning of June 2013, the Speaker of the House of Representatives of Indonesia, Marzuki Alie, paid a return visit to Belgrade.
The result of activities in the diplomatic and other relations between Belgrade and Jakarta is reflected i.a. In various bilateral agreements signed between the two countries in the field of culture, scientific-technical cooperation, economic, trade, cooperation in the utilization of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes, military cooperation and other. It is significant to mention here, the agreement signed between the two governments on the abolition of visa for citizens of the two countries, holders of diplomatic and service passport.
It is also necessary to mention that the first bilateral agreement between Yugoslavia and Indonesia was signed in June 1959 concerning the cultural cooperation. The latest bilateral document between Serbia and Indonesia – Memorandum of Understanding on inter-parliamentary cooperation - has been signed during the meeting between the speakers of Parliament of the two countries in Jakarta in March 2013.

FOREWORD
I am very grateful to God the Almighty and it is really my great honor and privilege to write a foreword thfor the catalogue dedicated to the exhibition honoring the “59 anniversary of the Belgrade – Jakarta
Diplomatic Relations” and published by Arhiv Jugoslavije, in cooperation with the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Belgrade. We are sincerely expressing our gratitude to Mr. Miladin Milošević, Director of the Arhiv Jugoslavije of the Republic of Serbia, together with his associates for their hard works and dedication in realizing this exhibition, dedicated to the milestone of diplomatic relations between Indonesia and Serbia. We are convinced that such a historical document will have a great value and significant impact towards further bilateral relations between Indonesia and Serbia established since 1954.
We believe that publishing this catalogue will show the importance of our long historical and close bilateral relations at the first stage, especially when our Governments agreed to establish the formal
thdiplomatic relation through joint official statement in Jakarta and Belgrade, on November 4 , 1954, and then followed by the arrival of the first Charge d'Affairs of Yugoslavia to Indonesia in Jakarta in February 1955, as well as the comming of the first Charge d'Affairs of Indonesia to Yugoslavia in Belgrade.
Afterwards, through strong commitment of both countries, bilateral relations between Jakarta and thBelgrade were elevated to the embassy level on July 10 , 1956, by the opening of the Embassy of the Republic
of Indonesia in Belgrade, and the first Indonesian Ambassador to Yugoslavia, H. E. Dr. Soedarsono, then in the same year followed by the arrival of the first Yugoslav Ambassador to Indonesia in Jakarta, H. E. Dr. Stane Pavlič.
We are still nourishing a pleasant memory of close and friendly relations between our two leaders during the first period of our bilateral relations, which built a strong cooperation and paved the way for the great vision of establishing the Non-aligned Movement (NAM). President Josip Broz Tito hosted the first NAM summit in Belgrade on September 1 – 6, 1961, six years after President Soekarno organized the Asia Africa Conference in Bandung in 1955. The great historical achievement, the establishment of NAM, was reached by our two leaders along with other founding fathers, Jawaharlal Nehru from India, Gamal Abdel Nasser from Egypt and Kwame Nkrumah from Ghana, (in what became) known as “The Initiative of Five”.

thToday we are marking the 59 anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Indonesia and Serbia, but also the friendship between the two countries. During that period Indonesia and Serbia were confronted by many problems. Challenges have been faced while our Governments laid strong efforts to develop the respective countries and provide prosperity to their people.
Indonesia and Serbia have many similarities, as reflected in multi-ethnic, multi-religious, and multi-cultural societies, but also the same principles and objectives in their foreign policies. We are very grateful that after all these years, there is the continuation of development and strengthening of our bonds of cooperation in many sectors. Further, there is the same commitment in Jakarta and in Belgrade for fostering overall good neighbourly relations, regional and international cooperation, along with dedication to preserve peace and stability in the world.
Having in mind such orientation by both Indonesia and Serbia all past years, we do hope that our two countries will be always side by side, along with other fellow nations around the world. In this regard, it is reasonable to focus on further expansion of our mutual cooperation, and set the goal of entering into the realm of strategic partnership between Indonesia and Serbia.
God bless the diplomatic relations between Indonesia and Serbia. God bless the friendly relation between the peoples of Indonesia and Serbia. Thank you.
