Bakers: History
• Started in 1980 by Shri Vidyasagar Vij who ran a distribution
agency for food products
• Initially manufactured Custard Powder, Corn Flour and
Baking Powder under the Bakers brand name.
• Bakers offered Custard Powder and Corn Flour in 1 kg packs
instead of the prevalent 25 kg industrial packs.
• Bakers was consumer oriented and manufactured products
that conformed to international quality standards unlike
competition who were generally more cost conscious, and
price oriented.
Bakers: Geography• While spices are synonymous with the neighbouring state of
Kerala, Bakers bucked the trend by leading its operations out of
the small town setting of Coimbatore on the wrong side of the
Western Ghats with all its three factories situated within the
district. district.
• As far as distribution and sales is concerned the brand is firmly
rooted in all five South States. Bakers have also started in a small
way in Punjab.
• It is available in stores in such countries as Fiji, Mauritius,
Kuwait and the ultimate destination of Indian spices since time
immemorial, England.
Bakers: Quality• Bakers’ quality orientation starts from raw material sourcing.
– If needed Oats are sourced from Europe, Kasuri Methi from
Rajasthan and Corn Grits from Nizamabad.
• It also includes storing things in air conditioned go-downs if
necessary.
• The factories are completely hygienic and state of the art
surpassing all Indian food standards.
• Baker’s R & D team provides a range of products that take
care of the consumers all culinary need.
• Each product is sampled in the market before it goes
commercial.

different varieties of:

– Milk shake Powders
– Ice Cream Powders
– Spice Powders and – Spice Powders and
– Masala Mixes.
Bakers: Statistics
• Bakers manufactures around 95 product variants in different
SKUs, employs over a hundred people and has a daily
production capacity of a 100 tonnes.
• Even though the legendary Bakers Custard powder is still the
top selling product with 1.2 lakh packs sold every month, its
other products don’t lag far behind in sales.
• Chat Masala formulated by the present partners from their
mother’s recipe is one of the best sellers at over 50,000 packs a
month.
Bakers: Competition
• Bakers products are mainly competing against Weikfield – in
Bakery Products category and Everest and MDH in the Masala
Powder category.
• Bakers is number two in Custard Powders in terms of sale
nationally and number one in South India.
