August
Hello Corvette Lovers,
I don't have much to say this month. July is usually a
slow month for car shows and trips.
Last month’s meeting was real good. There were lots of
Corvettes that made the caravan from Bear Market to
Collins. As the last one in the caravan, it looked awesome from the back!
We had about 30 cars in our caravan and two non Corvettes. When we got
there, Marlin and Gary had the area ready for us to park.
Thanks guys. I like Smith’s Restaurants and the food is good at all their
locations.
After the meeting, we proceeded to the Smith "museum". He has many
things to see there. He had a music box that was from the same mfg. as the
one we have. Over 100 years ago, it was the same as an mp3 player today.
The Corvettes and cars, to me are what I want to see and I was not disap-
pointed. His collection of Corvettes consist of C1 & C2 Corvettes . They are
top notch and have been awarded NCRS Top Flight and Bloomington Gold.
I know how much work and dedication it takes to get those awards. Most of
you know what it took to get my 95 ZR1 both of those awards. The other
cars in his "museum" were also excellent with the Olds being my favorite.
Some of us drove back together to get ice cream. We stopped by a Casey's
that was constructed by Marlin's father. Parker took a picture of the
plaque. I said this was going to be short, so, right now I am looking forward
to the pizza meeting on Sunday, August 12th, at Jerry Ehlmann’s garage.
I hope this turns into more of a social gathering than a meeting. Did I
mention that I have not been in a Corvette in eight weeks? This will be the
first time I will miss the "Hannibal" show since joining the club.
Happy Corvetting and
remember “The Wave".

A Corvette is traveling at 30 miles an hour on a head-on collision course with a Volvo. The Volvo is travel-ing at 20 miles per hour. When the two cars are ex-actly 50 miles apart, a very fast fly leaves the front fender of the Corvette and flies towards the Volvo at 100 miles an hour. When it reaches the front fender of the Volvo it instantly reverses direction and flies back to the Corvette. The fly continues flying back and forth between the approaching cars. At the mo-ment the two cars collide, what is the total distance the fly has traveled? (Answer on page 7)
Old Business: Jerry Ehlmann reported that the party/bash at his home turned out great. People came and went and everyone had an excellent time.
It was also an excellent day at the speedway and our cars received lots of exposure. It was a perfect day compared to those in the past as far as weather.
Upcoming Events: There is a Versailles cruise in on July 21st. A Corvette show is in Hannibal, Missouri on August 4th if anyone is interested contact Keith, our President. Corvettes at Karl’s is on August 22-25. You can still register online until July 18 for this event. The Corvette Showcase is September 8th in Lees Summit. Fall Follies are on September 8th in Laurie.
New Business: There was a discussion on the up- coming 25th Anniversary of the Corvette Museum. There will be a caravan with a three day event at the museum.
A trip to Bass Pro was discussed with a tour of the Aquarium and a luncheon with more information to come. It was also suggested that we might do a Satur-day trip to the old State Prison in October. The club is looking for any interest in that trip.
Our next meeting will be August 12th at Jerry Eh-lmann’s. The club is providing pizza from JJ Twiggs. Members are asked to bring either a dessert or a salad. There will be an email sent regarding this and an op-portunity to sign up for more specific dish. Directions will be sent in a later Email. It should be a great meet-ing and Jerry says he has AC if it is too hot!
The 50/50 was won by Jack Rice with $76.50 to Jack and the same amount to the club.
Meeting Adjourned.
Respectfully submitted by Debra Howard
The August 2018 meeting took place at Smith’s Res-taurant in Collins, MO. There were 62 members in attendance and 33 cars were counted.
We welcomed two new people as they joined the club, Preston and Pam Mawyer.
The club congratulated Bob and Linda Mason on their 50th wedding anniversary.
There were no new cars to report this month. Several birthdays were acknowledged for the month of July. Due to this fairly new member not being familiar with names these minutes may not have all of the names of people who reported. Your regular secretary should be back next month.
There is a day trip planned to a winery this Wednes-day on July 11, 2018. There have been several Emails sent regarding details and there is still time to join the group.
Marlin reported a beginning treasurer’s balance of $4951.36 and an ending balance of $6022.37 for the month. There is also one extra club afghan available for $34.00. If you would like to order name tags they are $15.00 each. There are also flags, window decals and business cards available.
Terry asked that newsletter items be sent to her at least a week before the first of the month. The club is still looking for a newsletter person to take over for Terry in five months. This is a great opportunity for one of our members. Parker gave a report on NCM and how Chevrolet has changed the way they report sales. It is now done quarterly instead of monthly. The number of Corvettes sold from April through June was 5,785. There were 10,242 Corvettes delivered between January and June.

On July 11, 2018 the Lake Ozark Corvette Club (LOCC) enjoyed a trip to Las Bourgeois Vineyards in Rocheport, Missouri which is slightly west of Columbia, Missouri. Two groups of Corvettes, one from the east and the other from the west of the Lake of the Ozarks, merged in Versailles, Missouri and then continued from there to Rocheport. It was a beautiful drive up Highway 5 and a weather perfect day. Upon arriving at our destination, we proceeded to The Blufftop Bistro which is associated with the win-ery. The bistro overlooks the Missouri River and is a very nice setting. The meals ordered and served were excellent and enjoyed by everyone. Another group of car enthusiast also visited the winery the same day. The group was Porsche owners that were meeting at the Lake of the Ozarks and drove up for the day. The parking lot was filled with beautiful cars and a lot of nice people. We admired their cars and they as well admired ours. We concluded our visit with a tour of the winery and a light tasting of their wines, which were quite good. The day trip was enjoyed by everyone, those attending were Dennis Wedding, Bob and Judy Pease, Ron Wehmeyer and Kathie Daggett, Parker Darr, Bill and Donna Kaimann, Randy and Joanne Engel, Jerry and Junella Hiatt, Chris and Jennifer Ling, Randy and Helen Gross, Keith and Judi Suchman, Doug Riffel, Nick Larsen and Vickie Grafmiller, Eric Rosenthal and Glenda, and two friends of Eric's from a Corvette Club in St Louis.
