Bragan Field at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville – Jacksonville, Fla. Tennessee: RHP Dae-Eun Rhee (3-0, 2.13) vs. Jacksonville: LHP Adam Conley (10-4, 3.22)

Game #108– Home Game #56 (32-23)

Last Game: Anthony DeSclafani tossed seven scoreless innings and the Jacksonville Suns (24-16, 58-49) won their eighth straight game, beating the Tennessee Smokies (24-16, 58-51) by a score of 1-0 in their series opener at Bragan Field. DeSclafani struck out seven batters and walked just one over his seven frames of work, surrendering six hits in earning his third career Double-A victory. “What can you say about this kid?” said Suns manager Andy Barkett. "He’s attacking the strike zone and doing all we ask of him. He’s doing all you can ask of a pitcher, especially in a pennant race.” The Suns had their own troubles at the plate against Tennessee’s right-hander Eduardo Figueroa (0-1), who limited Jacksonville to just one run on four hits in five innings. The Suns scored the game’s lone run on Michael Main’s fifth inning RBI single, but could not manage another hit after Figueroa left the game. But Jacksonville’s bullpen made the one-run lead stand. Pete Andrelczyk set down the Smokies in order in the eighth, and Michael Brady got Brett Jackson to line out to Derek Dietrich with runners on second and third to end the game in the ninth. “That was a big out,” Barkett said. “[Brady] got it when he had to.” The Suns have won eight straight games for the first time since 2010 and are tied with the Smokies for the Southern League’s best record in the second half of the season.

NEWS AND NOTES Nine Would Be Just Fine: The Suns won their eighth straight game with their 1-0 series-opening victory over the Tennessee Smokies. During this stretch, Suns starting pitchers have combined for a 1.43 earned-run average (7 ER in 44.0 IP), walking six while striking out 37 batters. The win marks the first time Jacksonville has won eight consecutive contests since May 6-14, 2010. The last time the Suns won nine games in a row was between July 19-29, 2009. That winning streak began with a 7-5 victory over the Tennessee Smokies at Bragan Field on July 19. The longest winning streak in the Southern League this season is 11 by the Birmingham Barons, which lasted from April 28 to May 10.

No Runs For You!: Tonight’s Suns starting pitcher Adam Conley enters tonight having not allowed an earned run in his last 22.0 innings pitched, which marks the longest such streak by a Jacksonville starter this year. During that time, Conley has allowed 16 hits, four walks and has fanned 17 in his 22.0 frames. The stretch for Conley is the fifth longest for a Suns pitcher since 2005, with reliever Mark Alexander’s 26.1 innings between May 21 through September 9, 2006 the club best in that time span. Since 2005, Omar Poveda (24.0 IP) owns the second longest stretch without allowing an earned run, while Bryan Evans and Jarrett Santos are tied for third-best, having fired 22.2 straight frames without yielding an earned run. Suns starting pitchers (Justin Nicolino, Andrew Heaney, Anthony DeSclafani) haven’t allowed a run in the last fifteen innings on the mound.

Home Sweet Home: Dating back to July 14, the Suns have won each of their last eight contests at Bragan Field, and own a 15-5 record in Jacksonville in the season’s second half. In 55 home games this year, the club has combined to club 49 longballs at Bragan Field, compared to 38 in 52 road contests. Jacksonville is also averaging 4.3 runs per game at Bragan Field this year, as opposed to a 3.9 clip on the road. In 23 games at home this year, OF Michael Main owns a .323 average (21-65), while C Taylor Krick (.310, 13-42) and INF Chris Gutierrez have also hit above the .300 mark at the Baseball Grounds in 2013.

Canha’s Streak Snapped: INF Mark Canha saw his 11-game on-base streak snapped last night with an 0-for-3 outing. Prior to last night, Canha had also recorded a hit in 12 of his previous 15 contests, including a streak of nine straight games between July 20-29. Despite the hitless game Friday, Canha since July 1 has accumulated a .354 average (28-79), adding 17 runs, six doubles, one triple, four homers, 20 RBI and ten walks in 26 games.
