Dear Mr. Eby,
Re: Kwantlen Polytechnic University Executive Salary and Expenses – Audit Request
Thank you for your letter, received by my Office via fax on April 3, 2014. My understanding is
that you are requesting an audit of Kwantlen Polytechnic University’s executive compensation
and reporting practices.
As a result of your request, my staff will be performing some fact-finding work. This will
include confirming the scope of the recently announced investigation being undertaken under the
direction of the Minister of Finance, together with a review of relevant documentation. The
results of this initial work will determine whether or not I direct my audit staff to do further
work.
You mention that a number of individuals have contacted you with information that they believe
may be helpful. We always welcome input directly from any such individuals and we will treat
this material as potential audit evidence. I should stress that while such input is protected from
disclosure under the Auditor General Act, we cannot prevent negative repercussions for
employees or others in the event their disclosure is discovered at their workplace or through
events beyond our control. Most tips and disclosures we receive reach us in confidence through
the web form on (www.bcauditor.com), or they e-mail us directly at [email protected].
We do not provide any information about the nature and course of our work to those providing
tips or information to us as, under the Auditor General Act, any subsequent reporting is made to
the Legislative Assembly.
Thank you for bringing this matter to my attention.
Yours truly,
Russ Jones, MBA, CPA, CA
Auditor General
