send it back to you. Please remember to delete it before sharing

2. Steps for a Beginner
3. Buying new furniture is expensive Finding old pieces at
auction or yard sales is fun It can be as inexpensive as you want
it to be Its rewarding to see your finished product It adds value
to the piece You can spent little or a lot of time on the piece as
you want
4. For the beginner, chose a simple piece with little detail
See the following examples and notice the detail The more detail in
the wood, the more time and work it will take to strip the piece
and refinish it.
5. This piece is a beautiful antique and most likely made from
walnut wood. It has beautiful detail and might be fairly cheap if
found at a yard sale. Beware. It may seem like a simple piece but
to the beginner, this piece could be overwhelming due to the
detail. Special tools are needed to get into the tiny spaces of the
beveled or rounded parts of the wood. For the beginner, this
project may be a bit much to take on at first
6. This walnut corner shelf is simple but a good piece to start
out with to see if you have the time and energy to dedicate to
refinishing furniture. Small pieces like this cost just a few
dollars and the supplies needed to refinish it cost less than $15.
Edges are smooth and flat making it easy to sand by hand Also, dont
chose painted wood if you are not experienced.
7. SAND PAPER Choose a variety of sand paper textures Coarse
paper to start Fine paper to finish
8. Tohold the sandpaper in place Much more ergonomic
Reusable
9. Minwax Wood stain is a good quality stain Inexpensive Many
colors to choose from Easy to apply
10. Putsa clear protective coat on your finished piece Comes in
several gloss levels for high or low shine Optional
11. Latex protects your skin from chemical burn or staining
when using the wood stain Prevents finger prints from appearing on
the stain while holding your piece as you work on it Prevents oil
from your skin mixing with the stain and leaving discoloration on
the woods surface
12. In the garage In the driveway or yard
13. Chose the texture of the sand paper you want to start with
Attach it firmly and taut to the sanding block Begin by pressing
the sand paper onto the wood Run the paper in the same direction as
the wood grain Never go against the grain Never sand in a circular
motion
14. Take a damp cloth and wipe the excess dust from your
sanding off the surface With an old cloth, dip into the Minwax
stain until the cloth is soaked thoroughly with stain Gently rub
the stain into the wood It is okay to use circular
15. Lighter stains show more variation in the wood grain
Variation or flaws in the grain are more noticeable the lighter the
stain Darker shades hidevariations and can give the wood an antique
look The softer the wood
16. Let dry for at least 4-6 hoursReapply stain until your
desired effect is reachedStore in a cool and dry place until all
staining is completed and dry
17. Use a basic paint brush Use even strokes following the
grain of the wood Apply second coat if desired Keep area free of
dust and debris until dry
18. Again, start small and simpleGraduate onto larger, more
detailed piecesExperiment with different woods and stainsGreat for
bringing life to old furniture
