This year’s Summit is all about communicating the power of wellness.
Consider this…• More organizations than ever before are now offering worksite wellness programs, yet
participation levels remain alarmingly low.
• As a result, many organizations are resorting to using excessive incentives—or even more drastic measures—in a desperate attempt to strong-arm participation.
• While these measures gain employee compliance, they fall far short of securing real commitment to healthy lifestyles.
But... there are real solutions to this problem—and we’ll reveal them to you at the WELCOA 2013 Summit.
How To Effectively Communicate The Power Of Wellness…
Priority #1: EngageOur first priority is to teach you how to develop communications that will effectively engage each and every employee in the betterment of their own health.
Priority #2: EnergizeThe second priority is to reveal the secrets of creating communications that get your employees fired-up and energized so that wellness becomes the buzz.
Priority #3: EmpowerOur final priority is to show you how you can create a communications plan that empowers every member of your organization to take action.
Join us at the Summit and stay for AJHP’s Conference!First, let’s talk WELCOA’s Summit…

Creating Jobs and Cutting the Federal Debt by Improving HealthThe nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office (CBO) has projected that federal spending on Medicare, Medicaid, other health programs, and Social Security will consume 100% of federal tax revenues by 2050. If this happens 100% of the cost of all other federal programs, including defense, education, justice, road construction, medical research, agriculture, interest on the debt, and everything else would be funded by borrowing more money, despite the fact that the federal debt would have already reached 200% of gross domestic product (GDP) at that point. It is hard to imagine how our nation would continue to exist if this occurs. It may be possible to avert this disaster by improving the health of the nation, and improve quality of life for hundreds of millions of people. Several strategies will be described to improve the health of the nation, including integrating comprehensive health promotion programs in all aspects of society and legislation that has already been introduced in the US Senate and House of representatives to provide financial rewards to Medicare recipients who achieve positive health goals. This legislation is based on an approach that has shown to be successful at the Cleveland Clinic.
Designing Healthy CommunitiesAs a pediatrician and public health physician, Dr. richard Joseph Jackson has had a distinguished career calling attention to environmental risks and their impact on our health. His latest work has sparked a national conversation on the relationship between rising health risks and the way we design our communities. early in his career, Dr. Jackson recognized the importance of tracking and analyzing data. Applying this approach to the “built environment” led to striking new conclusions: poor community design is harming our health, exposing children and other vulnerable populations to harmful contaminants and discouraging physical activity. The result is higher rates of asthma, cancer, obesity, diabetes and depression.
With a clear vision that meaningful reform is possible, Dr. Jackson has become a leading advocate for smart design, rallying mayors, planners, architects and the public to re-envision communities that are good for people and the planet. Through his lectures, books and recently-released PBS series, “Designing Healthy Communities”, he has launched a comprehensive strategy for reinserting health considerations into decisions about urban, suburban and transportation design.
Using a Strategic Science Approach to Stimulate Nutritious Eating and Obesity Controlresearchers often rue the fact that public policy is disconnected from science and that educating policy makers is the solution. This ignores the reality that science is often disconnected from the needs of policy makers, is extremely slow to be developed, funded, and published, and hence can be out of touch with the rapidly changing world and the immediate and strategic needs of those who make policy. This talk proposes that a different way of approaching research, “strategic science,” be done to: a) answer questions that fill key policy gaps; b) take place quickly; and c) be communicated widely. examples from the diet, nutrition, and obesity areas will be used to document this process in the context of pressing policy issues such as menu labeling, soda taxes, and limiting portion sizes.
