Membership Meeting, 3 March 2015 Held the 1st Wednesday of the Month at 10:00
We had 50 members in attendance at the membership meeting this month. Don’t forget the Wild Game dinner (which will be over by the time you read this HaHa). Just to let you know the Wild Game dinner was a hugh success and thank you to all that helped put it on. If there is bad weather please call the Center to see if we are open. The Center closing will also be broad cast on WBOC on the scroll at the bottom. Have a Happy Easter Mae
"Life is a continuing journey," and as seniors begin a new phase of their life, they can spend more time enjoying fun adventures, making new friends and perhaps
reconnecting with past friends. It is also a time when seniors can utilize their talents, experience and wisdom for the betterment of the community.
Frederica Senior Center Board and staff members continually strive to help enhance the quality of life for our seniors by creating a friendly, exciting, and fun place to be.
Frederica Senior Center employees are always ready to listen and try to point seniors in the right direction when it comes to community resources.
Seeking new ideas and gaining insight from our seniors for activities and programs to address ongoing and ever changing needs is our priority. Please do not hesitate to let us know how we can better serve you.
Please visit us often to see the wonderful things are happening

GETTING TO KNOW YOU by Doris Hoover
Sonny and Trish…Everyday these two fantastic people are giving time and energy to the Frederica
Senior Center.
Patricia (Trish) Felton Lomax was born May 30, 1951, in Easton, Maryland to Thursby and Doris
Felton. Dad was a Maryland State Trooper and Mother held a Bank Teller position in the local bank.
Trish educated in St. Michaels, MD, was a hairdresser and also worked 16 years for Culligan Water
Co. (Do you remember that famous ad? "Hey, Culligan man!") She has
one brother living in Maryland, favorite color is green, and enjoys
“Rudy’s Restaurant” in Harrington. She is a very busy lady with paint-
ing, stitching, cooking, and needle craft. Gone With The Wind is her
much loved movie which holds fond memories. Trish made her own
Senior Prom dress fashioned after Scarlet’s garden party gown in the
movie. Trish has been a FSC dedicated faithful volunteer for two
years, working the front desk as Receptionist or accompanying the bus
driver on trips. She says “this is the only place I can go that I laugh all
day.”
Roland (Sonny) Lomax, Jr. was born January 17, 1944, in Easton Maryland. His Father, Roland Sr.
was a master carpenter but left that profession to be a Waterman, a lift time dream. Sonny’s Mother
Freda was a seamstress and a mail carrier in Neavitt, Maryland. He has three children, and one
brother and one sister, both deceased. Like Trish, Sonny also
achieved his education at St Michaels. Sonny retired after 25 years in
the US Air Force and entered the workforce again. He retired for
the second time after 15 years with the Kent County Waste Water
System. He loves fishing, and western movies. John (the Duke)
Wayne is his favorite man. Somewhere in his busy life he spent 20
years as a scuba diving instructor. Sonny has been on FSC staff as Bus
Driver for the past two years. He says “these are all my kids.”
Did you know Sonny and Trish are 5th Cousins? They are both enthu-
siastic and committed Geocaching players. Sonny’s son introduced them to this fun game played all
over the world. The Frederica Senior Center is so blessed to have this delightful couple make our
Center their home away from home.

Goodness it’s hard to believe I have been at the center for five years. I started out volun-
teering in the outreach department, then I was employed as outreach coordinator, as well as janitor, activity coordinator,
office manager. Two years ago I became the executive director. Many question what an executive director does, hope-
fully this article will explain my duties. Duties of Executive Director, a nonprofit organizations are structured in a
slightly different way than for-profit businesses, although there are a few similarities. The makeup and duties of a non-
profit's executive Director, for example, is similar to for-profit companies in a number of ways. An executive director
sits in the top spot in a nonprofit organization, and performs a range of duties similar to those of chief executive officers
in corporate businesses. Understanding the role of an executive director of a nonprofit organization can shed light into
how nonprofits function on the inside. Working with the Board, of directors an experienced board of directors can pro-
vide strategic guidance, valuable contacts and resources to nonprofit organizations. While the board of directors is re-
sponsible for making a range of vital company decisions, it is not involved in making day-to-day operational decisions.
As the most senior manager in the operational hierarchy, one of an executive director's main roles is to act as a liaison
between the board of directors and the rest of the organization. Executive directors meet with the board regularly to
keep them informed on operational issues and work with them to come up with strategic solutions to complex chal-
lenges.
Executive directors oversee the center and employees in a nonprofit, including marketing, fundraising, program de-
velopment, HR management and accounting. Employees and members look to the director for strategic guidance in
their areas. The executive director leads the fundraising department in setting annual income goals, to set standards for
serving the organizations targeted needs groups. The smaller a nonprofit organization is, the more directly involved the
director is likely to be in each departmental function.
Executive directors fulfill vital roles outside the office and after normal business hours. Directors are expected to at-
tend and possibly host a range of fundraising events, new program inaugurations and public relations events. Directors
often speak directly with reporters, donors, government representatives and members of the community at these events,
spending a good deal of time acting as the public face of the organization. In a way, a director has to consider himself
on duty at all times as a representative of the organization .In addition to appearing at official events, executive di-
rectors act as a liaison between their organizations and a range of external stakeholders. Directors develop and main-
tain relationships with other nonprofit leaders, for example, looking for opportunities to partner with other organiza-
tions to serve good causes. Directors also work personally with leaders in the business and government world, cultivat-
ing long-term strategic partnerships or donor relationships to increase the organization's effectiveness.
As our Center has grown, it has been an honor to serve the members of our center. I hope for continued growth and
wellbeing for our Center. Thank you for allowing me to become a part of our center. Looking forward to many more
years!

The Frederica Senior Center’s mission is to guide Delaware’s senior into a brighter future. The Center is where seniors
and or persons with disabilities join together for services, activities, socialization and nutritious home cooked meals.
Programs are designed to enhance our seniors dignity, support their independence and encourage involvement in and
with the Center and their local community.
This Membership Guidelines Booklet has been developed to enhance the experience of your participation in the Center
activities and programs. It is the Center’s priority to provide a safe, pleasant, positive, comfortable, enjoyable environ-
ment to our members.
The Center recognizes that some behaviors may distract and disrupt for the enjoyment of the Center. That is why the
following guidelines have been set up by the Board of Directors and Staff Members in order to address any instances
that may occur and disrupt the daily routine and experience at the Center.
We all ask that you carefully read this booklet to become familiar with these guidelines in order to know what is ex-
pected from each and every member of the Frederica Senior Center.
1. Membership is limited by the resources of the Center to individuals who are self mobile, with or without assistance
devices such as wheelchairs or walkers, independent, capable of appropriate decision making, self toileting and have
adequate appearance and hygiene to participate in daily activities. If not independent self mobile members may attend
with a personal assistant.
2. As a member we ask that you promote goodwill. No member shall mistreat, either verbally or physically, any other
member or staff. Mistreatment includes sexual, racial or otherwise harassing comments. Violence of any kind will not
be tolerated and shall result in immediate dismissal from the Center, and membership will be revoked immediately.
3. Members are asked to encourage diversity. Isolation of members based on race, religion, color, sex, national origin,
sexual orientation, and or physical or mental disability shall not be tolerated.
4. The use of illegal drugs or alcohol is not permitted on or in Center property.
5. The rooms and equipment in the Center are for the use of the entire membership and are never for the exclusive use
of any one member. Members are expected to respect and maintain the facility and equipment they use. Members may
be liable for purposeful damage or destruction of any Center property. Use of equipment is at the users own risk.
6. Members are not to use any vulgar or profane language at any time.
7. If at any time a member has a problem of some kind, whether it be with another member, staff member, a program
or procedure in the Center, that member should report their concern to the Executive Director or Staff Member. No
member has the right to approach a guest or group of guests to voice their complaint. Complaining among other mem-
bers will not get the situation resolved but will only bring disharmony into the Center.
8. Any criminal act committed by a member will result in immediate dismissal.
9. Inoculations must not be done in public areas, such as dining room, lobby or kitchen.
The purpose of these guidelines is to allow everyone to richly enjoy their visit to the Center every time they are here.
