July 12, 2020 15th Sunday in Ordinary Time
On March 30, 1976 I turned nine years old. Four months later, that same year, our country turned two hundred years old. I remember that July 4th celebration like it was yesterday! Everyone was so excited to be celebrat-ing this amazing event. The United States of America was reaching its bicen-tennial and we were all lucky to be alive and here to see it happen. Cities, towns and communities were going all out planning picnics, parades and fire-work displays that would be worthy of such an important day. Finally the big day arrived! Mom and Dad loaded picnic basket, blankets, water jug, bug spray and four kids into the car and headed down Highway 65 to the city park. Dad found a spot along side of the road and the party began. I was so proud to be there, so proud to be an American! That little third grade girl was happy and so proud. Not everyone felt the same way that day. There were many people who were suffering disappointments and others who were battling feelings of fear and unrest. But on that day many of them put aside their disillusionment in this amazing country and came together to celebrate a nation that was built on freedom and the belief that all men are created equal and have the right to pursue happiness and a better life. As I am writing this article today, I am fifty three years old and our country will be celebrating its two hundred and forty fourth birthday in four days. I would say it is safe to say that this year there might be a whole lot less peo-ple who are proud of our great country than there were back in 1976. Pan-demic, riots, masks, distance learning, people wanting to make the future better by tearing down memorials of the past, all makes for a dismal view of this land we call home. It is so easy to look at the state of this nation and feel like it’s falling apart. We are tempted to be overcome with the dark and dismal news that seems to permeate through the news and amongst our neighbors. But I want to en-courage each of us to remember that the United States of America has been a beacon of hope for millions of people through the years who wanted free-dom, wanted hope, wanted to be able to dream and live in a place where those dreams could come true if they just worked hard enough. As you are reading this, the fourth has come and gone. Let us take time this week to thank God for the United States and to ask Him to help us be the people that He wants us to be.

UPDATING THE SICK LIST: I deeply appreciate how you all take very seriously the charitable act of praying for one another - especially for those requesting prayer during times of illness. I wish to continue to encourage that beautiful Spiritual Work of Mercy. Our bulletin list contains names of those who (on their own behalf or by a family member) ask to be prayed for. It has been my practice to re-move a name only if we are directed to so as to avoid any offence being taken. However, for clarity's sake - I'm going to change that policy just a bit. Two times a year (January and July) we will start the list over (keeping only those names on the list who have re-cently asked to be placed on the list.) If you wish to continue to be on the list - then simply alert the office to that fact and you will be added back to the list. Fr. Bob

RETREAT TIME: I was originally scheduled (from last fall) to attend a Biblical Conference in West Virginia from July 13 - 17th. The conference is back on (with all the regular protocols these days), but I'm not interested traveling by plane these days. So I'm going to take my annual ca-nonically required retreat in that time. So I'll be on re-treat from after Masses July 12th and back for Masses on the 18th-19th. I won't be far away so I'll presume to cover Sacramental emergencies and any funeral/burial events that come up. Fr. Bob
SUMMER NOON MASSES TO
CONTINUE Mass at St. Anthony Cemetery, Terrebonne, will continue through the month of July. Social distancing directives inside worship facilities (to date) have not been relaxed, and so to provide a continued option for Sunday Mass Attendance I will continue the Noon Mass. This will be re-evaluated as we near the end of July - and determine whether or not to continue them through August. Thanks for all who make that Mass possible! Fr. Bob

Pope’s Intention for July Our Families
We pray that today’s families may be accompanied with love, respect and guidance.
“The seed sown among thorns is the one who hears the word but then the cares of the world and the lure of riches choke the word and it bears no fruit.” (Matthew 13:22) Does the lure of riches and material goods choke God out of your life? Are you so caught up in earthly activi-ties that you have no time for God? Gratitude and generosity are virtues that we should strive to do on a daily basis. Every decision we make either takes us one step closer to God or one step further away. What we receive at Mass every Sunday should be shared with others all the other days of the week as well.
ATTENTION ~ All residents of Red Lake Falls! Who says there’s no such thing as a free lunch? On Monday, July 13, 2020, beginning at 8 a. m. FREE food boxes will be distributed to ANY HOUSEHOLD with a Red Lake Falls ad-dress that would want them until they are gone. This distribution will take place outside of J. A. Hughes Elementary School on a first-come first-serve basis. There will be 240 protein boxes available:
The Protein Box will include chicken sausage patties, hot dogs, and bacon.
EVERY HOUSEHOLD with a Red Lake Falls ad-dress is encouraged to pick up food boxes. Just drive by and volunteers will be there to place the food box(es) you request into your trunk. You won’t need to get out of your car.
