The session was well received by 4 project representatives
Commitment was shown by to address indicated non-conformances after the guidance received during the
one on one session. In addition, the area’s extension officer committed herself to assisting the farmers with
addressing the non-conformances.
It was very clear that nothing was done after the first interactions to address the non-conformances identified
and this project can be certified only if members are truly committed and do not wait for officials to do things
for them.

Held at Glen Agricultural College. 4 Farmers from 4 farms / projects and 8 officials from the provincial
Department of Agriculture and DAFF attended the workshop. The Director of the Marketing unit in the province
also attended.
The workshop was aimed at all participants originally nominated to the SAGAP programme regardless of
whether they were removed due to lack of infrastructure

Held on the farm and the session was well received by the coop representatives. Some of the non-
conformances which were identified have been addressed and some are still being addressed, eg they did not
have a pesticide store but contractor is on site building a proper one. They still need to work on completing
their production records properly as per templates and keep required documents in place

The Workshop was organised by the Province and held at the Forever Resort.
The workshop was one the best organised from the provinces. The farmers were transported to the venue by
the officials, accommodation and meals for the farmers including venue and catering for the workshop was
paid for by the province
3 farms that were audited each had a representative at the workshop and other farms/projects had
representatives attending to get exposure of the certification requirements. 14 officials from the Provincial
Department and 33 farmers attended the workshop.

Site visit / pre audit regarding the construction of the pack house took place on 8 October 2015. The
farmer’s builder was present and a visit to a neighbouring farm where a certified pack house is in operation
was organised by the farmer so that the builder could practically see what the auditor was talking about
regarding certification requirements.
The farmer and builder received advice on what to include during the construction phase, some of the
issues included:
The location of the pack house
The water supply
The drainage system (floor design slopes)
Intake and Dispatch areas
Storage facilities for chemicals and packaging materials
Sanitary facilities
Hand washing facilities
The covering of openings to doorways, vents and drains

Members of the coop who remained behind on the farm did not have information to assist the facilitator as
the office was also locked and he had to drive back without conducting the session.

primary production unit.

The farm manager was present for the pre audit, however it was observed that the infrastructure
which is in place is not being used appropriately i.e. the storage facilities are being used for dedicated
purposes, beside this issue the main areas lacking are the record keeping and the lack of written
procedures. This farm will take longer to be ready for final certification as they need to work on
separating the storage facilities for dedicated purposes.
