This annual scholarship was established in 1995 by Isabel Ford as a memorial for her late husband. A.L.

Ford. A.L. Ford was a communications pioneer in Prince George, serving 48 years with CN Telegraph. From the

arrival of telegraph services to Prince George to the evolving telecommunications services of the 1970's, A.L.

Ford worked in areas that we now call "information technology".

Eligibility: Open to students who intend to pursue a career in information technology.

Criteria: Demonstrate a high level of academic achievement over the last two years and have demonstrated good

citizenship. Must plan to enroll in post secondary studies leading to a career in telecommunications or other areas

covered under the broad umbrella of information technology. Must plan to pursue their education in a full time

program of two or more academic years in any one of the following:

a) technical training

b) university studies

c) college studies

BET SIDDALL MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship has been established to honour the memory of Bet Siddall, who worked in School District No. 57

from 1966 to 1988. This award honours Mrs. Siddall for her outstanding contribution to education as teacher and

principal; it recognizes her belief in the importance of education as the means by which each individual might

strive to realize his or her potential.

minimum of 2 years.

BEV HOSKER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

This awards was established by family and friends of Bev Hosker. Born in Fort St. John. Bev was a member of the first ever

female RCMP troop. She went on to serve 24 years with the RCMP throughout British Columbia. Bev was in

integral member of the District Parent Advisory Councils in both Quesnel and Prince George, and a tireless advocate for the

rights of students and parents. She was a particularly strong believer in the need to increase the numbers of

young women pursuing studies in math and science. This award will go to someone who embodies Bev's commitment to

community and school and plans to pursue further studies in a mathematics related field.

BLACKBURN FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship has been established in 1994 by the Blackburn family who arrived in the Pineview area in

the 1920's. The Blackburns have always taken an active role in the community where the first log school was built

on their farm land. The award is intended to recognize and provide financial support to a student who attended

Blackburn Junior Secondary School.

Eligibility: Open to students who attended one of these schools for 2 or more years: Blackburn, Giscome,

Pineview, Buckhorn, or Hixon Elementary.

Criteria: Demonstrated academic excellence and a strong involvement in their school and/or community.

BRIJ M. MADHOK, PRINCE GEORGE REGIONAL CORRECTIONAL CENTRE

CRIMINOLOGY SCHOLARSHIP

This award was established in 1988 by the Hutda Lake Camp to provide financial assistance to a graduating

student who plan to pursue post-secondary education in the field of criminology.

Eligibility: Open to students who plan to enroll in a post-secondary educational institution in the field of criminology.

Criteria: Demonstrated high level of academic achievement. Demonstrated good character as evidenced by

letters of reference.


Special Condition: Dependents of Corrections staff are not disqualified. Letters of reference outlining

BRYAN JOHNSON MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship was established by the friends and family of Bryan Johnson, a Prince George businessman. He

was a very warm, friendly person with a tremendous zest for life. The purpose of this scholarship is to

acknowledge students who are self-motivated and who pursue excellence in their endeavours. Bryan's

untimely death occurred in an avalanche while skiing on Mount Rider, February 4, 1995. He is sadly missed by his

wife, family and friends.

c) has been an active volunteer with the Caledonia Nordic Ski Club for at least their senior years.

The Chinese Benevolent Society Scholarship was established as a District Award in 1983. It is given

to a student of Chinese descent who is a member of the Chinese Benevolent Association. The student's

school will receive a trophy for that year.

descent or, in the case of members of Canadian Chinese families, have at least one parent of Chinese descent.

The Government of BC will make available to graduating students of School District No. 57, scholarships

each valued at 51,000.00. Successful candidates are selected on demonstrated excellence in fields other than

academic.

Successful candidates each receive a $500.00 Dogwood District/Authority Award cheque. An additional

$500.00 will be paid to each award winner who registers in an approved program of career-oriented studies at

SD93 or Cedars Christian School) who are Canadian citizens or permanent residents / landed

immigrants and who fulfill graduation requirements. Criteria: Possess a C- or better average in the Grade 12 year. This award will be available to graduates who

excel in any of the following areas:

graduate from School District No. 57, who plans to enter either a General Nursing Diploma Program or Bachelor of

Science in Nursing Program.

This scholarship has been established by School District No. 57 to honour the memory of Gordon Ballantyne

for his outstanding contribution to education as a teacher, principal and district administrator and in

recognition of his love for the English language. The purpose of this award is to provide financial support to

students who have demonstrated excellence in their knowledge and use of the English language.

Amount of Each Award: $1000.00 with an opportunity to interview for employment at Integris Credit

Union for the summer months in the year in which the award is received. Eligibility: Open to students who attend school in the City of Prince George. Applicants must be either

members of or are sons or daughters of members of Integris Credit Union. Applicants must intend to pursue

a career in finance, economics, technology or marketing.

This award was established by Canadian Forest Products Ltd., North Central Plywoods to honour the

Memory of a co-worker, Jennifer Hartley.

JUNE ELIZABETH WADE MYTTING SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship has been established by June Elizabeth Wade Mytting from the proceeds of her published

works, to assist a graduating student from one of College Heights. Duchess Park, Kelly Road, Prince

George,, D.P. Todd Secondary or School District 93 proceeding on to post-secondary education in a

recognized educational institution. The scholarship purpose is to acknowledge students who are self-

motivated and who pursue excellence in their endeavours.

Mrs. Mytting died on July 26, 1986, of cancer. She will be missed by family, friends and fans. The work will

continue in her memory and this award will be enlarged.

KEN LUTTRELL MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

The Kiwanis Club of Prince George has established a memorial trust fund to honour the memory of Ken

Luttrell for his outstanding service to the Prince George community. Mr. Luttrell was a 30-year charter

member of the Kiwanis Club of Prince George.

of the Knights of Columbus Council 5246 (Prince George). Recipients must attend a post secondary school in

LO ELLIOTT ORTHODONTICS CLOSED SCHOLARSHIP

This Scholarship has been established by Dr. Francine Lo and Dr. Robert Elliott. They are certified

specialists in orthodontics located in Prince George with deep roots in the community.

MIKE REID MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP (DS) In 1995 the name of the scholarship was changed from the Caledonia Nordic Ski Club to the Mike Reid Memorial

Scholarship. Mike Reid, a respected and active member of the ski club, died suddenly in 1995 at age 35. He had been a

talented athlete, a positive role model, and a mentor to young athletes at both the local and provincial level. The

scholarship was renamed in his memory.

The Caledonia Nordics Ski Club is a Cross Country Ski Club which has been established in the Prince George area for

over 30 years. It was formerly known as the Hickory Wing Ski Club. This scholarship is intended to assist the Club's

young athletes wishing to continue their post-secondary education.

Eligibility: Open to students currently enrolled in any secondary school in School District No. 57 who is a current

member in good standing of the Caledonia Nordic Ski Club and:

a) has been an active member of a Caledonia Nordic Ski Club Race Team for at least their senior years. or

MULTICULTURAL HERITAGE SOCIETY OF PRINCE GEORGE SCHOLARSHIP (DS)

These are endowed funds held by the Prince George Community Foundation.

Music. This involvement can be in the school and/or community.

NUKKO LAKE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL SCHOLARSHIP

This award, established in 1998 by the Parent Advisory Council.

THE POZER FAMILY ENDOWMENT FUND The Pozer Family established a new family fund with the Prince George Community Foundation in 2004

with the first award given to a student in June 2006. This award will be given to students who are intending to

pursue a career in music.

PRINCE GEORGE ADMINISTRATORS' CLOSED SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship has been established by the Prince George Administrators' Association (School District No.

A perpetual scholarship was established in 1986 to commemorate the visit to Prince George of their Royal Highnesses, the

Prince and Princess of Wales. These are endowed funds held by the Prince George Community Foundation.

Special Conditions: Preference will be given to those students who provide a minimum of one and not more than

three testimonial letters, record of marks or other support material substantiating each of the three areas of

achievement:

FREDA ERRICSON MEMORIAL NURSING BURSARY This award was established in 2001 by family, and friends to honour the memory of Freda Erricson. Freda was a

dedicated Licensed Practical Nurse and Nursing Unit Clerk at the Prince George Regional Hospital for over 35 years. Her

conscientious and compassionate nature endeared her to the many patients, co-workers, friends and family. It is hoped

that this bursary will be awarded to someone who is determined to put kindness back into the nursing

community banded together to help Gairett. This award is designed for a student who has faced considerable

Employment/Alternate Education/Learning Assistance Program who has successfully completed a work

experience component and who plans to continue his/her education at any post-secondary institute.

JAMES A. FOWLIE MEMORIAL BURSARY

James (Jim) A. Fowlie was easily one of Prince George's most respected and recognized individuals. He was a

founding member of the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada Prince George Chapter where he supported the

goal to be a leader in finding a cure for MS and enabling local residents affected by MS to enhance their

quality of life. Afflicted himself with MS for 40 years, Mr. Fowlie lived life to the fullest. He was seen

regularly motoring the streets of Prince George in his electric wheelchair with a clever saying pinned to the

back.

JIM McLEOD MEMORIAL BURSARY

This bursary has been established by the Prince George Take the Car Out of CAR/nage Society to honour the

memory of Jim McLeod who was a founding member of the Society. The purpose of this bursary is to

provide financial support to a student who has demonstrated a commitment to Traffic Safety and to the

reduction of automobile-related injuries and fatalities.

KARL ANDERSON FOUNDATION BURSARY

Karl Anderson left Denmark at an early age as a member of the Danish Navy and made his way to Canada, arriving in the

rapidly growing community of South Fort George in 1913. He opened a newsstand opposite the sternwheeler

landing in South Fort George. In 1914 Karl moved his store to a permanent building on George Street in the new town

site of Prince George. Karl was a member of the Rotary Club of Prince George as well as the Supreme Lodge of the

Danish Brotherhood in America. This award is given to male students who intend to pursue a university education.
