    ABOUT THE INSTITUTIONPondicherry Engineering College is an autonomouspromoted and fully funded by the Government ofPuducherry. The College was started in the academic year1985-86 under the seventh five year plan. Ever since itsinception, the college has registered progress in academicand research fronts. It now offers eight undergraduatecourses, thirteen postgraduate courses and Ph.Dprogrammes in all the branches of Engineering and basicScience. The college is spread across 186 acres and hasexcellent infrastructure, well equipped laboratories andhighly qualified faculty. The college is actively involved inseveral research projects. The college is situated atPillaichavady, about 12km from Pondicherry town and about150km from Chennai along the scenic East Coast Road (ECR)on the sores of the Bay of Bengal. The lush green campus ofgreat scenic beauty and picturesque environment forms anexcellent setting for the pursuit of studies in Engineering,Science and Technology.

    ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT OF ECE

    The Department of Electronics and CommunicationEngineering (ECE) was started in the academic year 1985-86.The department is offering UG, PG and Ph.D programs. Thedepartment has a team of highly qualified and dedicatedfaculty members. The department has laboratoriesequipped with modern and state-of-art equipment, a well-furnished seminar hall, smart class room, excellentcomputing facilities and a department library with severalvolumes of books. The department has been recognized as aminor QIP centre for pursuing Ph.D programs.

    ABOUT PUDUCHERRY

    The coastal town of Puducherry with the French ambience isknown for the serene atmosphere. Sri Aurobindo Ashramand the nearby Auroville International Township, ManakulaVinayagar temple and Churches lend a unique spiritualflavor to the city. There are several tourist attractions tovisit and spend time in leisure, in and around Pondicherry.

    ELIGIBILITYFaculty working in AICTE approved Institutes andhaving the zeal to do rigorous research in the field ofWireless Communication Networks. 10% of theparticipants from industry and not more than 2participants from the host institution are permittedto attend the program.

    Wireless technology has enormous potential tochange the way people and thingscommunicate. Wireless video will supportapplications such as enhanced socialnetworking, distance learning and remotemedicine. Wireless sensor networks can alsoenable a new class of intelligent homeelectronics, smart and energy-efficientbuildings and highways, and in-body networksfor analysis and treatment of medicalconditions. Wireless engineers are pursuing 5Gand other advanced technologies to achievegigabit data rates, ubiquitous coverage, andmassive connectivity for many applications suchas IoT and V2X. The need to improveperformance and coexist with multiplecommunications standards and devices whilereducing the overall area and power imposeschallenging requirements on baseband DSP, RFfront ends, and antenna design.

    NetSim provides the user the means togain a strong theoretical foundation incomputer networks and build industry relevantprogramming skills, through a hands-onapproach. The various tools in NetSim aredesigned to contribute to this STTP.

    MATLAB & Simulink can help the userrapidly create 5G, LTE & WLAN standards-compliant link-level simulations, models formassive MIMO and mm-wave communications,Model large antenna arrays and explore systemarchitectures such as hybrid beamforming,Accelerate simulations using programming,parallel computing, and C code generation.

    ABOUT THE STTP Rapidly create 5G, LTE & WLAN standards-compliant

    link level simulations. Leverage new channel models for massive MIMO

    and mm wave communications. Model large antenna arrays and explore system

    architectures such as hybrid beamforming. Improve fidelity by jointly simulating digital

    baseband, RF front end & antenna effects in a singlesimulation.

    Accelerate simulations using programming bestpractices, parallel computing, and C code generation.

    Shorten implementation and verification of C & RTLdesigns using code generation and verification tools.

    The labs are focused on helping the studentunderstand the internal working of the protocolrather than device configuration.

    Network performance metrics is available atdifferent levels of abstraction for users to study theimpact of changes.

    To familiarize with the main features of the NetSimand MATLAB integrated design environment and itsuser interfaces.
