This degree focuses on concepts fromeconomics and business studies disciplines, asapplied to food, fibre and energy chains.

This is an applied course where you will learn about themanagement of businesses operating from the farm gate toconsumer plates.

Along with business management skills, you will learn andbe able to reflect on the key challenges of securing asustainable food supply for this and future generations.

The agri-food chain is one of the world's largest industries. Itinvolves the delivery of products from farms to worldwidemarkets.

Key topics covered are:

• food economics and management of agri-foodbusinesses

• food policy and its implications for businesses andconsumers

• gathering evidence through data analysis to supportsound decision

• agriculture and food production and distribution• consumer studies and marketing management

This degree could lead to work in a range of internationalbusiness sectors, such as food markets and marketing,retail management, and business consultancy.

You can study at a partner institution abroad for betweenthree months and one year through the Erasmus scheme.

Current countries include France, Spain, Germany, theNetherlands, Hungary and Estonia.

Teaching and assessmentOn average you will have around 14 contact hours aweek. You'll learn through lectures, seminars and smallgroup tutorials.

There will also be field trips, so you can see how yourlearning applies in a practical context.

Assessment is mostly through examinations. You'll alsocomplete coursework that includes essays, projects andcase studies.

To help you develop skills for your future career, you'llalso complete a business simulation project and anindependent research project in Stage 3.
