EXPERIENCE AND JOBS :
I. Lecturer in Food Science and Technology Institute of Applied Science and
Technology, Dharan, Nepal (Jan. 1975 to June 1975) Established Food Technology unit with processing and analytical laboratory and pilot
plant, developed courses and syllabus for Diploma in Food Technology, Surveyed agro
industrial potential of Nepal, worked as a member of Energy Group and responsible for
development of biogas at high altitude, established research group for processing of fruits
and vegetables.
II. Associate Professor Fruit Technology, Marathwada Agricultural University,
Parbhani. (June 1975 to August 1976)
Established Fruit Preservation lab at Dept. of Horticulture, teaching to Post Graduate
students, research guidance, developed course curricula for Food and Nutrition for
Agricultural graduates. A project proposal was prepared and submitted to Govt. of
Maharashtra and Indian council of Agricultural Research for Establishment of Faculty of
Food Technology at Marathwada Agricultural University, Parbhani which was sanctioned
in May 1976
III. Associate Professor and Head, Dept. of Food Science and Technology, Faculty of Food
Technology, Marathwada Agricultural University, Parbhani (October 1976 to June
1987) (Additional charge of Professor since Nov. 1982)
Established Food Science and Technology Department with laboratories and pilot plant,
developed courses for B. Tech. and M. Tech. program in Food Science and Technology,
Established research groups and guidance to postgraduate students in food science and
technology, established industrial relations unit and was engaged in industrial consultancy,
administration of the department
IV. Professor and Head, Department of Food Science and Technology, Marathwada
Agricultural University, Parbhani (June 1987 to Oct 2005). Director of Industry
Liaison
Developed need based research program in association with industries, farmer’s co-
operatives and state bodies. Obtained research funds from UNICEF, UGC, ICAR etc.,
Developed Entrepreneurship Program for food industry, instrumental in forming farmers’
co-operatives for processing of crops to produce value added products, associated with
Maharashtra Center for Entrepreneurship Development. Involved in industrial consultancy
in providing technical know how and preparation of project report.
V. Registrar, Marathwada Agricultural University, Parbhani (June 1995-May1996)
Implemented VRS scheme for temporary labours, improved and streamlined admission
procedures for UG and PG courses based on constitutional requirements.
VI. Director, Agri Food Research Foundation of India, Pune (July 1999 – July 2001) Established the Foundation with infrastructure and activities, conducted sponsored
research, organized training programs, offered industrial consultancy.
VII. Dean, College of Food Technology, Marathwada Agricultural University, Parbhani
(October2005-June 2007) Revitalized the activities by modernization of Laboratories
and pilot plants. Initiated several research programs including ICAR sponsored Centre of
Excellence in Development of Agro Based Nutraceuticals for Health Security. National

VIII. President, Agri Food Division, JISL, Jalgaon, (June 2007 onwards)
Provide leadership and look after the Sustainable Development of Agri Food Business
including new project, supply chain development, quality and safety in supply chain,
appraisal of projects problem solving in processing and R&D in Food. Established a totally
new division of Sustainable Agriculture.. Developed a new system of Good Agricultural
Practices for small farmers called Jain GAP which is recognized by Global GAP
authorities. First time developed Water Foot Printing system for agricultural products and
water impact analysis in collaboration with IFC, World Bank. Developed and lead an
import program and established exotic varieties of citrus crop under NBPGR. Established
collaboration with Haiti Hope project in Haiti and Project Nurture program for
development mango backward linkage and productivity development program in Kenya
and Uganda. Led a delegation to GFAR of FAO for 1st Global Conference for AR4D at
Rome. Signed MOU for Development of Master plan of Agri development of Bhutan,
Liaison with Government and other professional bodies. Inclusive Business leader IFC.
Professional visits to USA, Germany, Sweden, Switzerland, France, Spain, Vietnam,
Thailand, Indonesia, Philippines, Cambodia, Denmark, Brazil, Mexico, etc.
Dr. Kulkarni was a DANIDA Fellow in Denmark, consultant in Indonesia, advisor and
visiting professor in Mauritius, visiting professor to the Chinese academy of sciences in
China. Dr. Kulkarni has been a member of several subgroups of the Planning Commission,
the Swaminathan Committee, and ICAR National Coordinator for Food Technology. He
has been a member of numerous bodies including the expert group in the area of secondary
agriculture of biotechnology, as well as the Rajiv Gandhi Science and Technology
Commission for Food Technology Park. He is chair of the Regulatory authority for
fruits, vegetables and spices products of FSSAI. He is also chair of Agriculture and
Food Processing Committee of BCCIA, member of the CII food-processing group, Dr.
Kulkarni is President of the All India Food Processors Association for Western
Region.
