A FAST COMPANY.Before Fast Company, there was a fast company. A fast brand. Fast in a few ways. Fast like Steve Prefontaine. And
fast like Phil Knight. Steve ran fast. Phil was quick on his feet. Bottom line, fast is about making things happen. It’s
about making decisions and acting on them. This is at the heart of Nike. Simplify and go. Fast.
A BIG COMPANY.Fast forward three-plus decades. A fast company just got big. Really big. Big is good. But big isn’t always fast. No
fault of the brand, just the physics of business. One day you’re an office with 10 people. Then you become a global
brand with over 30k people. Suddenly your fast isn’t as fast as it used to be.
We are digitally dependent. It’s hard for us to imagine that business actually happened before email and computers.
But it did. We used the phone. We talked face to face. We sent memos. And business happened.
B.E.**BEFORE EMAIL
At some point in the 90s something happened. Something big. It was called email. It would make the world small. It
would make the world more productive. No more memos getting lost in the mail. No more interrupting productivity.
That’s what we thought.
THEN CAME E.
Up ‘til now, Spam was canned meat. It just takes a click to cc someone so why not? Why tell jokes at the water
cooler when we can send them to our co-workers’ desktops?
“Ejail” is a part of our everyday life now. Being able to attach a document to an email is a good thing. Being able
to attach an 18 meg PowerPoint isn’t. But people still do it. Everyday. They are not your friends.
MORE TALK.LESS SAID.
Typically only 1 out of 10 emails contain information directly pertinent to the work you need to get done. For each email
you open it takes the average of four minutes to return to the task at hand.
15 emails can steal an hour of productivity. Multiply that by 100 employees. 500 employees. 5000 employees. You get
the picture.

2004Yikes! There goes a quarter of my day...

2008Hello fmyi!Welcome to a more productive Nike.

A VERY BRIEF HISTORY OF NIKE TIME.
c. 1978Okay you got us. Who wears suits at Nike? The “hallway meeting” becomes the water cooler of Nike.
Bottom line, fmyi (for my innovation) is really about one thing: making your life easier. When life is easier, it’s easier
to innovate. And hey, innovation is fmyi’s last name.
Simply put, fmyi is an online social networking workspace where teams large or small can store and share information. Think of it as your email body guard and admin all in one
safe place. It protects you from a bloated inbox. Best of all, it was designed from the ground up for Nike. Bo may not
know Diddley, but fmyi knows Nike.
NIKE, FMYI.FMYI, NIKE.
fmyi kinda looks like a blog. But instead of being full of Hollywood gossip or Uncle Ed’s vacation pictures, it’s full of
the stuff you need to get your job done. Like manage projects. Track interactions with contacts. Build a resource
library. Stay on top of group tasks. All of the good stuff for your PSP.
LIKE A BLOG.BUT USEFUL.
Let’s say this is your team. On any given day they are going to use email to communicate with each other a lot. And
many of those emails will cc most of the others. Net result: you have a team who is constantly checking, sending,
receiving email.
THIS IS YOURTEAM ON E.
It’s said that simplicity is the ultimate sophistication. Guess you’d have to call fmyi sophisticated then. fmyi becomes
your central hub. Each team member (including external folks) can post their communications on the site. They can
store PDFs and PowerPoints there (where they don’t clog up your in-box). Regions become a non-issue. You don’t have to cc anymore. Lost or deleted email is a thing of the
past.
THIS IS YOURTEAM ON FMYI.
Social networking is in the midst of a hockey stick growth trajectory. Facebook and MySpace used to be the refuge of
teens and bands. Now, over 37% of adult internet users have pages. Two years ago less than 200 Nike employees had
profiles on Facebook. Now there are well over 2500. So what would you rather stare at all day — something from Microsoft, or something fun like Facebook?
Point is, social networking is familiar. It’s easy and intuitive.
fmyi is built on this model.
LIKE A FAMILIAR FACE.
Everything you need in one place. Add a message. Don’t email it. Post a file.
Add a link. See progress to date. Manage a project. Track a contact.
Find resources. All in one place. All on one page. You can see what’s going on across Nike from people you’ve
never met. And fmyi has sustainability features built in, making it easier to do
the right thing.
LIKE A SWISS ARMY KNIFE OF INFORMATION.
fmyi knows there’s a lot of others out there. But fmyi is the only one that knows Nike inside and out, has a platform
created with Nike in mind, with Nike people actively using it already. fmyi’s team has deep knowledge of the Nike
process and will help every step of the way with the rollout. fmyi also has an extensive internal Nike network of advocates ready to jump on board for communications,
collaboration, innovation, and sustainability all wrapped up into one social networking friendly platform. Sony, Aflac,
Hyatt, HBO, and thousands of others are on board too.
POWERED BYHUMAN ENERGY.
MAKING FAST FASTER.Bill made shoes lighter so his runners were more efficient, and thus faster. Shaving off even a fraction of an ounce
was an obsession with him because he knew that ounces add up over the miles to pounds. fmyi likes that kind of
thinking. Saving you minutes means saving Nike months when everyone is on fmyi. Evolve immediately on fmyi. A faster fast.
