POONCH: Legal Metrology Department (LMD) imposed afine of Rs.25,000 on the management of Haryana basedchocolate manufacturing firm for violating the provisions ofthe Legal Metrology (Packaged Commodities) Rules, 2011.

During inspection at various retail outlets, the team ofLMD headed by Assistant Controller Kewal Krishanobserved that small packs of chocolates of various denomina-tions were offered for sale to consumers without declaringthe month/Year of packingand details of the manufactureron these packs.

Responding to legal notice of LMD, the management of thefirm admitted its guilt and pleaded for composition of thecase at department level.

The Assistant Controller, on assurance from the defaulterof not repeating this malpractice, compounded the case forRs 25,000.

5 bovines rescued, smuggler flees STATE TIMES NEWS

KATHUA: Police on Wednesday foiled a bovine smugglingby rescuing five bovines, however smuggler managed toescape from the spot.

As per the details, acting on a tip off a police team led byInspector Amit Sangra SHO Police Station Rajbagh estab-lished checkpoint on NH Rajbagh and seized one MahindraBolero without registration number carrying five bovines.All the bovines were rescued, however smuggler managedfrom escape to the spot. A case under section 188 RPC 3/5PC Act was registered in this regard.

250 pouches of illicit liquor, 100 kgsof Lahan destroyed

STATE TIMES NEWS KATHUA: Excise Department destroyed 250 pouches ofillicit liquor, besides 100 kgs ofLahan during different raidscarried out against illicit liquorin Excise Range Kathua.

On the directions of the ExciseCommissioner Talat ParvezRohella and supervision ofDeputy Excise Commissioner(Executive), Jammu SyedMuried Hussain Shah the ExciseTeam Kathua led by ETO SavitaChouhan and Inspectors ArunKumar and Razi Ahmad alongwith Sanjeev Kumar, Nitin Sharma and Excise GuardsRajinder Singh, Aqeel Ahmad and Jyoti Prakash Sharmaraided the Jakhbar Dhambra, Khokyal, Padyari, Darala andMuthi Khutd areas of Kathua District to arrest the menaceof illicit distillation of liquor.

In the process 250 pouches of Illicit liquor besides 100 Kgsof Lahan raw material of illicit liquor was recovered by theraiding team from State land and later destroyed on spot.

While addressing the pro-testers, Kitchloo said that we

are cooperating with policebut till date nothing has beendone. He further said thatjudicial probe should be heldunder the sitting High CourtJudge.

Kitchloo alledged thatsince the date of incident, res-idents of Tappal Mohallaespecially women are beingtortured on the basis of suspi-cion by the police as investi-gation is still going on afterpassing of more than one andhalf months time. "They tor-tured our mothers and sisterson the pretext of investiga-tion. we will not tolerate thiskind of treatment being doneby the police."

Kitchloo warned police andadministration not to harasspeople especially women ofthe Tappal Mohalla unneces-sarily, otherwise be ready toface the repurcussions of thepublic, for which local admin-istration will be responsible.

He also assured that aspublic of the area cooperatedwith investigating agenciesearlier, will cooperate in eachand every sphere, if the gen-uine investigation takesplace.

STATE TIMES NEWS RAJOURI: As a part of vari-ous activities planned underBeti Bachao Beti Padhaocampaign, a painting compe-tition was held on Wednesdayat Government Girls HigherSecondary School Rajouri.The painting competition wasorganised by the DistrictSocial Welfare DepartmentRajouri. The events wereorganised to promote themessage of empowerment ofgirls, reinforce gender equali-ty and to aware people andstudents about the effects ofthe decline in sex ratio.Number of students from 11schools, both private and gov-ernment participated in thecompetition and expressedtheir views through the medi-um of colours.

The main motive behindorganising such competitionsat school level was to encour-age the young students to

showcase their talent anddepict the current happen-ings through their artwork.

While speaking on the occa-sion, DSWO Mohd Naseebsaid series of activities arebeing held across the districtto spread the message of BetiBachao, Beti Padhao. Hesaid competitions will beorganised in urban as well asrural areas to provide a plat-form to raise issues, con-

cerns, and challenges facedby girls. Certificates andprizes were also distributedamong the winners and theparticipants.
