How we chose this preerred siteThe signifcant constraints o the surroundingheavily built-up area, including the road and railnetwork, meant that only one possible work sitewas identifed to connect to the Fleet Main CSOwhich is located directly under Blackriars roadbridge. The site is located in the river oreshore, west o Blackriars Bridge. The site was assessed orits suitability by taking into account engineering, planning, environment, property and community

considerations.

Our preerred site:Blackriars Bridge Foreshore

We have identifed a site on the oreshore, close towhere the CSO discharges under Blackriars Bridge,as the only possible location rom which we canintercept the Fleet Main CSO. The preerred sitepresents a number o engineering challenges as it issituated close to Blackriars road and rail bridges, theDistrict Line, the Waterloo & City line tube tunnels, the EDF Bankside cable tunnel, red route A3211

Victoria Embankment and Blackriars underpass. We will careully consider how this site could beutilised and what mitigation would be requiredto minimise disruption to the surrounding area, including the use o Blackriars Pier, plus impactson the oreshore, river bed, river wall and navigationin this busy and narrow section o the river.

Permanent use o the siteWe are likely to require some above-ground structureson this site ater the construction work has fnished. In order to build these structures, we proposeextending the existing river wall out into the RiverThames to create a new area o hard-standing.

We would need a ventilation column (approximately15m high and 3m diameter) and a building(approximately 10m high, 12m wide and 20m long)to provide ventilation and fltering o the air in thetunnels (see image above).

We would leave the area around these structures ashard-standing to allow maintenance vehicles andpublic pedestrian access to this new area o riverrontage.

Above is an example o how the site could lookater construction has fnished. As part o our publicconsultation we would like to know your views on thepermanent look and use o the site.
