High Density Equipment Panel 10 Gigabit Interconnect

Introduction

The 10 Gigabit Interconnect solution, like all of the planned migration designs, begins with a 24-fiber optical trunk with a single, two-row MPO-type connector at each end. Trunks interface with the rear of a 1 or 4 rack unit (RU) high HDEP chassis, which contains up to six 24-fiber MPO to LC modules per RU. These 24-fiber modules break out the trunk fibers into 12 duplex LC connections at the front of each module, supporting 144-fibers per RU.

Modules reside in a multi-featured HDEP chassis which provides superior cable management for both the MPOs at the rear and LC cords at the front. HDEP chassis are stackable and available in 1 and 4 RU versions in both unmanaged and managed formats. They can be populated all at once, or added to or upgraded a module at a time in the future. The HDEP chassis also supports high density 10 Gigabit modules, as well as 40 and 100 GbE versions, allowing an upgrade path by changing the module at the front and employing existing and additional 24-fiber trunks at the rear.

Introduction

HDEP High Density 10 Gigabit Fiber modules also utilize 24-fiber MPO trunks and support interconnection from 40 Gigabit switch ports that have been remotely enabled as four 10 Gigabit independent paths. QSFP ports on the switch interface via a 1x3 MPO array to a 24 fiber trunk. This trunk connects to a 24 fiber (12 duplex LC) array at the other end, physically dividing the 10 gigabit paths to individual ports which provide LC connectivity.

This component set maintains fiber paths and polarity, and provide proper fiber mapping from transmit at one end to receive at the other over a total of twelve 10 Gigabit paths. All modules are compatible with HDEP chassis, frames and hardware, and feature a highly engineered, and highly effective, cable management system. Chassis are stackable and available in managed and unmanaged versions, supporting 144 fibers per RU in a usable cabling system.

High Density Equipment Panel 10 Gigabit Cross-Connect

Introduction

The 10 Gigabit Cross-Connect Solution, like all of the planned migration designs, begins with a 24-fiber optical trunk with a single MPO-type connector at each end. A trunk interface with the rear of an HDEP module that breaks out the trunk fibers into twelve duplex LC connections (24 fibers) at the front. This module resides in a highly efficient HDEP chassis which provides superior cable management for both the MPOs at the rear and LC patch cords at the front. HDEP chassis are stackable and available in 1 and 4 RU versions. Either chassis supports 72 duplex LCs (144 fibers) per rack unit (1RU).

Chassis can be populated all at once, or added to or upgraded a module at a time in the future. The HDEP chassis also supports High Density 10 Gigabit modules, as well as 40 and 100 GbE versions, allowing an upgrade path by changing only the components at the front and using existing and additional 24-fiber trunks at the rear.

Chassis can be cascaded to form a half or full cross-connect layout. Cross-Connection can be implemented via LCs to maintain single channel flexibility. (Note: Some cross-connect architectures are treated as engineered links, and available power budget must be verified.)

Introduction

HDEP High Density 10 Gigabit Fiber Modules also utilize 24-fiber MPO trunks and support connection from 40 Gigabit switch ports that have been remotely enabled as four 10 Gigabit independent paths. MPO-based QSFP ports at the switch interface with an array at one end of the trunk, and a break-out array divides these signals into duplex LC pairs at the other end.

Chassis and modules can be cascaded to form half or full Cross-Connect architectures. Cross-Connection can be implemented via LCs to maintain single channel flexibility. (Note: Some Cross-Connect architectures are treated as engineered links, and available power budget must be verified.)

MPO modules have eight MPO ports that support trunks and patchcords with MPOptimate performance levels. Each module supports distribution of eight 40 Gigabit Ethernet paths, each containing four duplex 10 Gigabit links. When deployed according to recommendations in this design guide, the system maintains fiber paths and polarity and provides proper fiber mapping from transmit at one end to receive at the other - over a total of twenty-four 10 Gigabit paths per module. All modules are compatible with HDEP chassis, frames and hardware, and feature a simple, yet highly effective, cable management system. Modules are 1/3 RU high, can snap easily into existing or newly installed HDEP chassis, and can be replaced by 40 and 100 GbE module in the future.

High Density Equipment Panel 100 Gigabit Cross-Connect

Introduction

HDEP 100 Gigabit fiber modules provide connection from eight MPO trunks with 24-fiber, dual-row connectors to eight 24-fiber MPO equipment or patch cords. Each module supports the distribution of eight 100 Gigabit Ethernet links when configured in a 10X10G transmission format. When used in pairs with 24-fiber MPO patch cord pairs they provide proper fiber mapping from transmit at one end to receive at the other of the link.

Modules can be cascaded to provide half or full cross-connect architectures. (Note: Some Cross-Connect architectures are treated as engineered links, and available power budget must be verified.)

Modules are compatible with HDEP chassis, frames and hardware, and feature a simple, yet highly engineered, cable management system. Chassis are available 1 and 4 rack unit (1RU and 4 RU) versions and support up to 48 x 100 Gigabit connections per RU. Each unit is fully assembled at the factory and can reside in a chassis with 10, High Density 10, 40 and 100 GbE modules to allow convenient, incremental upgrades.
