To us, a smile is everythingOur Mission: Empower kids facing health challenges to lead their most awesome lives through cost-free family outings and uplifting hospital programs.
For 32 years, enCourage Kids Foundation has empowered kids facing health challenges to lead their most awesome lives through cost-free family outings and uplifting hospital programs.
And we couldn’t do it without you.
In 2016, you helped us brighten the lives of more than 275,000 sick children and their families during their most difficult and challenging times. By bringing laughter, comfort, and distraction, our programs offer relief from the constant burden of treatment, hospital stays, and doctor appointments.
In this year alone, you made it possible for 24,719 sick kids to be entertained during Hospital Happenings, 2,440 to receive cuddly teddy bears, 23 Tablets to be distributed to our hospital partners, and 9,096 sick kids and their family members to enjoy Escapes.
2016 also marked a new era for enCourage Kids as we commemorated the 20th Anniversary of the Pediatric Hospital Support Program, launched a new website, and introduced our Blog as a forum to celebrate the courage and resilience of the amazing children and families we serve.
We know there is still much to do and with your help, we will continue to develop programs inspired by the unique needs of our pediatric hospital partners, deliver exciting family outings that create positive memories, and bring countless smiles in the most unlikely of places, to those who need them most.
Thanks to YOU, we make hospitals a better place to get better and offer children facing serious health issues the same opportunities all children deserve – to laugh, play, and have fun.
In the following pages you will learn more about the impact your generosity has made this year. We are grateful to have you on this journey with us and on behalf of the thousands of families whose lives were enhanced by your support, thank you.
With gratitude,
Jeffrey GuralBoard Chairman
Michele Hall-DuncanExecutive Director
For every smile, thank youA Note from Our Leadership

Totaling nearly $15 million in support, more than 800 hospital projects have been funded since the program’s inception in 2006.
As we celebrate the milestone of this crucial program, we also celebrate the thousands of donors who have contributed to it. Whether it’s helping to fund the creation of a family oasis lounge, an “Arts for Healing” support group for children with chronic illnesses, or a music therapy program, YOU have made it possible for enCourage Kids to elevate the level of care for hundreds of thousands of pediatric patients.
Pediatric Hospital Support Program Celebrating 20 Years of Partnership with Child Life
“In times when hospitals have limited resources, enCourage Kids really provides the enhancements – the special programs and projects, the celebrations for children. It has made us feel that we can offer our families something really special in addition to our child life services.”

Hospital HappeningsenCouraging Smiles Our Hospital Happenings encourage smiles by bringing an array of entertainers – from clowns and musicians to caricature artists and magicians – into the hospital.
“With the enCourage Kids bear I can provide a really amazing comfort item that also helps bring the patients something that’s familiar to them, that they might have at home, that helps to normalize the environment.”
– Lori Lerma, MS, CCLS Child Life Director The Brooklyn Hospital Center
“Hospital Happenings help brighten our patients’ days by adding a cheerful presence to the hospital. They enjoy getting out of their rooms, having the opportunity to socialize and participating in group activities. Parents have expressed appreciation for seeing their child smile and ‘just be a kid’ in the midst of medical treatment.”
– Lisa Duggan Child Life Specialist, Albany Medical Center

“Had I not had access to an enCourage Kids Tablet, I don’t know that I would be able to develop some of the tools that I regularly use and those are now tools that are a standard part of my therapeutic interventions that I use with patients daily.”
– Morgan Stojanowski, Child Life Specialist Mount Sinai Kravis Children’s Hospital
