We welcome you this evening to the Toigo
Foundation’s 14th annual Gala.
Our theme—It Starts With You—reflects our
encouragement of every individual we serve
from Toigo Fellows and Alumni, to senior leaders in the finance industry
to take part in closing the gap between the aspirations of talented young
professionals with dreams of success and the firms that seek to expand their
organizations with new generation talent. Help us make it happen. While
today that mission is being realized year over year through the growth of our
fellowship and the tremendous impact of our brilliant Alumni, the agenda for
change continues to evolve.
We all are here because we know that real change requires the personal
efforts of every individual in this room. We value your partnership in helping
to shape the future of leadership in finance.

The Toigo Foundation was saddened by the recent passing of Jorge Castro, founding member of the New America Alliance and Co-Founder of Lombardia Capital Management.
Never one to forget his own humble beginnings, Jorge was a tremendous advocate for education of minority youth and high standards of excellence. As a mentor to many Toigo Fellows and Alumni and a supporter of the organization, the Foundation knows his messages of leadership and the imprint of his friendship will last forever.
Jorge Castro was Executive Chairman of the Board, Partner, prior CEO, and Co-Founder of Lombardia Capital Partners. Previously, he served as CEO, CIO and founding principal of Los Angeles-based CIC/HCM Asset Management (1990 – 2003). Prior to starting CIC/HCM in 1990, Jorge worked for Goldman Sachs & Company (1985 – 1990) and J.P. Morgan (1983 – 1985) in New York City. The son of a merchant seaman and homemaker who sacrificed to educate their children, Jorge was born in the Watts Community of Los Angeles. He attended catholic schools in Los Angeles, including Loyola Jesuit High School, before winning a scholarship to Milton Academy in Milton, Massachusetts for his final two years of high school. He went on to graduate Magna Cum Laude from Princeton, win a Danforth Fellowship and earn a Master’s degree in Government from Harvard. He was also a Ph.D. candidate at Harvard before turning to a career on Wall Street. Professionally, Jorge was a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA).
Our hearts are with Jorge’s brother Tom, his wife Nancy and his son Dominic during this difficult time.

News CorrespondentABC News
Ann Compton joined ABC News in 1973. Only weeks after the Watergate scandal came to an end in 1974, Compton became the first woman assigned to cover the White House on a full-time basis by a network television news organization, and she was one of the youngest to receive the assignment. In addressing her retirement from ABC
News after 41 years President Obama paid tribute to Compton saying, “Ann Compton, everybody here knows, is not only the consumate professional but is also just a pleasure to get to know.”
From 2007 – 2008, Compton served as the president of the White House Correspondents’ Association, coordinating coverage and access issues with the White House staff.
On Sept. 11, 2001, Compton was the only broadcast reporter allowed to remain aboard Air Force One during the dramatic hours when President Bush was unable to return to Washington.
Reporting for all ABC News broadcasts, Compton has traveled around the globe and through all 50 states with presidents, vice presidents and first ladies. Twice during campaigns, she was invited to serve as a panelist for presidential debates (1988 and 1992), and she was assigned as a floor reporter at the 1976 Republican and Democratic National Conventions.
In 2000, Compton became Chief Washington correspondent for ABCNews.com, where she wrote and anchored a digital political column, “On Background.”
Compton was part of the team that was awarded the prestigious Silver Baton Alfred I. duPont Columbia University Award for the network’s coverage of September 11, 2001. Her coverage of September 11 events was also recognized in ABC News’ Emmy and Peabody Awards. She was inducted to the Museum of Broadcasting’s Radio Hall of Fame in 2005, and in 2000 into the Journalism Hall of Fame by the Society of Professional Journalists. She was chairman of the governing board of the Radio Television Correspondents Association in 1987-88, and served on the advisory board of the Freedom Forum Media Studies Center in New York. She says her most valued award is a golden statuette from the National Mothers’ Day Committee naming her a Mother of the Year in 1988.

New York City ComptrollerToigo Executive Council Member
New York City Comptroller Scott M. Stringer has spent his career in public service fighting for New York’s middle class, strengthening the City’s fiscal health and championing transparent and accountable leadership. The New York Times described Mr. Stringer as a public servant “committed to the principles of good government,” and praised him as a “catalyst for reform.” He was elected Comptroller on November 5, 2013.
As investment advisor, custodian and trustee of the City’s $160 billion pension funds, Mr. Stringer has introduced a six-point ethics reform package to significantly enhance accountability, transparency and ethics in the administration of these funds. He has enhanced integrity and professionalism in fund management and worked to achieve strong, consistent returns by calling for more comprehensive assessment and diversification of pension investments.
Comptroller Stringer has continued the New York City Pension Funds’ strong tradition of shareowner engagement with publicly-held companies. This fall, he launched the Boardroom Accountability Project, a nationwide campaign to give shareowners a stronger and more influential voice in how corporate boards are elected. The initiative targets 75 major companies in which New York City’s Funds’ invest, in an effort to shape board policies on diversity, climate change and CEO compensation.
The Comptroller has also pushed city agencies to engage women and minority-owned businesses more aggressively when it comes to granting contracts, and he appointed the City’s first-ever Chief Diversity Officer. Both initiatives are rooted in the belief that enhancing diversity leads to greater competition in the marketplace and ensures the long term health of City investments. Comptroller Stringer has also endorsed “right to request” legislation that would allow individuals to propose flexible work arrangements (FWA) without fear of reprisal and create a framework for employees and employers to discuss FWAs that fit the unique needs of businesses and their workforces.

Cory was raised in Harrington Park in Bergen County, New Jersey. A star athlete at Northern Valley High School in Old Tappan, he earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Stanford University, where he also played for the football team. While at Stanford, he ran a crisis hotline for students and worked with disadvantaged youth in East Palo Alto. He then attended Oxford University as a Rhodes Scholar where he managed a student tutoring and mentoring program in a disadvantaged community. In November 2014, he won reelection to the Senate. Cory serves on the Senate’s Commerce, Science and Transportation, Small Business and Entrepreneurship, Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs, and Environment and Public Works Committees.
