WELL WHAT HAPPENED WAS: The Smokies dropped their series finale to the Chattanooga Lookouts 3-1 on Wednesday after-noon, though they still clinched the series by taking three out of five games...Tennessee starter Felix Pena (7.0 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 7 SO) tossed another solid outing, yielding only one run on four hits, adding seven punchouts in seven innings, though he did not factor in the decision...INF Stephen Bruno (2-4) was the lone Smokies hitter to record a multi-hit effort, while C Kyle Schwarber extended his hit streak to eight with a lead-off double in the eighth...Lookouts OF Adam Walker’s RBI double down the left field line broke a 1-1 draw in the top of the ninth, while Chattanooga plated another insurance run for the win...Lookouts reliever Jake Reed (1.2 IP, 1 H, 2 BB, 2 SO) earned the victory, while Zach Jones (1.0 IP, 2 SO) notched his fifth save and Smokies reliever Carl Edwards Jr. (2.0 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 1 SO) suffered the loss.

TONIGHT’S SMOKIES STARTER: Tennessee is scheduled to give the ball tonight to LHP Rob Zastryzny...The southpaw made his last start on April 25 vs. Chattanooga (3.0 IP, 3 H, 1 R 1 ER, 0 BB, 2 SO), and did not receive a decision...The 23-year-old did not factor in the decision in his Smokies and Double-A debut on April 12 at Mississippi (3.1 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 3 BB, 5 SO)...Left-handed hitters have struggled mightily in the early going, combining for a .091 average (1-11), while righties have hit .333 (5-15)...The lefty on the road last season with High-A Daytona posted a 3-3 record and 3.99 ERA (25 ER in 56.1 IP) in 12 outings, compared to a 1-3 clip and 5.37 ERA (32 ER in 53.2 IP) in 11 home starts...The Texas native was rated by Baseball America as the No. 16 Cubs prospect prior to this season.

TONIGHT’S BARONS STARTER: Birmingham is slated to oppose Zastryzny by sending out RHP Junior Guerra this evening...The righty suffered the defeat despite a quality start in his last outing on April 25 at Jacksonville (6.0 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 7 SO)...Guerra earned the win in the second game of a twinbill on April 18 at Chattanooga (3.2 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 5 SO)...The Venezu-ela native was signed by the White Sox as a minor league free agent this winter after playing independent ball between 2011-13, and also pitching in the Italian Baseball League last year...The 30-year-old also played in the Atlanta Braves and New York Mets minor league systems before being released by the Mets in 2009.

CRAZY EIGHT: C Kyle Schwarber enters this evening riding an eight-game hit streak...Dating back to its origins on April 21, the backstop has hit .457 (16-35), adding seven runs, four doubles, three homers and 11 RBI...Baseball America’s No. 19 overall pros-pect saw his seven-game RBI streak snapped Wednesday, in addition to his six-game run scoring streak...Entering today, no player in Minor League Baseball has more total bases (29) than Schwarber since April 21...The 22-year-old also enters Thursday’s play ranked first in the Southern League in slugging percentage (.717), in addition to second in on-base percentage (.470), tied for second in RBI (13) and total bases (38), and third in batting average (.377).

DOWN WITH OBP: The Smokies enter play today ranked third in Minor League Baseball in on-base percentage (.371), behind only the Double-A Corpus Christi Hooks (.375) and Midland Rockhounds (.375)...The club also paces the Southern League in that cate-gory by 24 points over the Biloxi Shuckers (.347)...INF Dan Vogelbach enters today six among Minor Leaguers with a .481 on-base percentage...Tennessee is not the only Cubs affiliate to lead their league in OBP, as the High-A Myrtle Beach Pelicans pace the Caro-lina League with a .327 on-base percentage...The Low-A South Bend Cubs also rank second in the Midwest League in OBP (.336).

THE HIT COLLECTORS: Tennessee also enters today’s play ranked fourth in Minor League Baseball in batting average with a .286 mark...Only Triple-A Las Vegas (.306), Double-A Corpus Christi (.290) and High-A Rancho Cucamonga (.289) have recorded a better average at this point in the season...The Smokies’ single-season record for batting average is .285, which led the Southern League, back in 2010.

ON THE ROAD AGAIN: Through their first nine road games this season, the Smokies have combined for a .295 batting average (96-325), in addition to a .391 on-base percentage...That’s in comparison to a .274 clip (76-277) in nine home games, along with a .347 on-base percentage, a difference of 21 and 44 points, respectively...INF Ryan Dent has hit .391 (9-23) in eight games on the road, as opposed to a .120 mark (3-25) at Smokies Stadium in the first month of 2015, a 271 point difference...The club is also averaging 1.3 more runs and 2.3 more hits per game on the road than in Kodak through nine games of each.

SO CLUTCH: Smokies batters have come up big in clutch situations this season, combining for a .309 average (55-178) with runners in scoring position, the top mark in the Southern League, adding six doubles, one triple, three homers and 76 RBI in those situa-tions...C Willson Contreras leads the club with a .500 clip (8-16) with one double, a homer and seven RBI in those times, while OF Bijan Rademacher (.389), INF Dan Vogelbach (.350), OF Pin-Chieh Chen (.333), INF Elliot Soto (.313) and C Kyle Schwarber (.308) have all hit above the .300 mark in those spots...The team also ranks second in the circuit with a .296 batting average (24-81) when hitting with runners in scoring position and two outs, behind only the Chattanooga Lookouts (.325).

HAIL TO THE VICTORS: With their series win over the Lookouts, Tennessee has not lost any of their four series yet this season...The Smokies have won all three five-game sets they have played, in addition to tying with the Jackson Generals in a four-game set that saw the finale postponed by rain...This month will mark the first time the club has not lost a series in April since 2011, when Tennessee won each of their first four series in the season’s initial month.

WHAT HAVE YOU DONE FOR ME LATELY?: Over their last ten games, the Smokies have compiled a .295 team batting average (1000-339), adding 65 runs, 12 homers and 60 RBI...The club is averaging exactly ten hits per game, in addition to 6.5 runs per contest in that span...C Kyle Schwarber in his last ten matchups has hit .410 (16-39) with three homers and 11 RBI, while INF Elliot Soto has hit .343 (12-35) with nine runs scored and four RBI.
