P I M P L E S - I N R U B B E R SThe elastic properties of the top sheet determine the control of the ball and the characteristics of your rubber. We therefore outline the following categories according to the characteristics of the top sheet.

HIGH FRICTION and CONTROL

These rubbers are not fast, but provide high grip. Their control is

excellent. Due to the weak elasticity, the grip can only develop its

effect on topspin when slow balls are played. Low spin dynamics

in fast topspin games.

STICKY

These rubber sheets offer good control and are very sticky, provi-

ding good spin when playing slow balls: i.e. service and first spin.

CONTROL-ELASTIC

These rubbers develop spin elasticity even at low speed giving

you more control and providing more playing fun. Suitable for

control orientated players.

STICKY-ELASTIC

Slightly sticky rubbers with very good spin

dynamics and ball control when playing at

high speed. Very sophisticated technology.

OFFENSIVE-ELASTIC

Fast offensive rubbers. Speed is the predomi-

nant characteristic rather than spin. Interes-

ting rubbers for fast aggressive players.

SPIN-ELASTIC

Professional rubbers for today’s top table

tennis players. They not only have the

speed of the offensive elastic rubbers but

also the addition of spin characteristics.

The rubber sheet:European players usually play with pimples–in rubber. Pimpled out rubber for speed players and long pimpled and anti spin rubber for defensive players are encoun-tered less frequently.

The sponge:Sponges are available in several thicknesses. The thicker the sponge, the more difficult to control, but the more spin for topspin shots and the less spin for chopping.See our points for control, spin and speed in the Compact Description boxes.

Sponge hardness:Modern rubbers usually have three differing degrees of sponge hardness.We always indicate these in our Compact Description.

Soft sponge provides better ball control. The spin remains the same while speed is slightly reduced.

The standard sponge offering a balanced relationship between control, speed and spin.

These sponges provide more speed but less ball control.

The first step is to analyse yourself: what type of player are you? A rough distinction would be the following four categories.

You are a defensive player who prefers to slice the ball.

ARYou are an all round player who uses all TT tech-niques: chop, block, spin, and smash.You prefer tactical play and exact placement of balls or a speedier game.

OFF – Focal point SPINYou are a strategic player who uses reversed pim-pled rubber. The main characteristic of your game is topspin. Playing close to the table or only from a short distance, you try to win your points with spin strategies.

OFF – Focal point SMASHYou prefer speed to spin. The main characte-ristics of your game are hard blocked balls and smashes with exact placement. You usually play with ‘pimples out’ rubber on the backhand.

ELASTICITYControl of the ball is effected when the ball makes contact with the bat. The elastic properties of a blade make you feel this contact. It is down to the individu-al which type of elasticity is preferred. We outline the five categories of elasticity. If you take these catego-ries into consideration it will help determine your

blade choice.

You can really feel the contact between ball and blade, often with a vibration. A good example is the defensive blade Donic DEFPLAY CLASSIC SENSO,

which has excellent control.

Balanced, distinct contact between blade and ball with no disturbing vibration. Perfect control for all-round strategies, and when combined with spin elastic rubber also for offensive strategies.

H a n d l e s

The choice of handle is purely personal. In our com-pact description you can see the available handle shapes for each blade. There is no ‘best’ handle, everyone should choose the handle they find most comfortable. Straight handles are usually held more loosely, while concave and anatomic handles are held relatively firmly. Handles, which have not been lacquered, naturally absorb sweat better.

OUR CLASSIFICATIONS FOR BLADES AND RUBBERS

Every table tennis player has his own individual style of play – as has every blade and rubber.It is now possible to obtain a distinctive match between the two. It has become very easy for a player to find the perfect match of blade and rubbers.

You still clearly feel the contact between the ela-stic blade and the ball, but this blade is obviously stiffer and faster than a control –elastic blade.

The vibration has been reduced to a minimum. You still have good ball contact. These blades are usually very fast.

Example: DONIC PERSSON POWERPLAY SENSO.

The predominant characteristic is speed. Not always easy to control, but a good example for a solution to this problem is

the DONIC BURN OFF.

W e have combined the finest woodplies for our DONIC

BLOODWOOD blades, plies which are normally used in the pro-

duction of exclusive high quality speakers and musical instru-

ments.

The Bloodwood outer plies are especially solid and hard, to pro-

duce the blades’ required stiffness. In order to create the best

possible mixture of power and feel it was important to combine

the hard outer plies with soft inner plies and carefully harmo-

nize the different thicknesses.

We had to establish new technology to glue the Bloodwood plies:

Bloodwood and Palisander plies required stronger pressure and

higher temperatures in the gluing process in order to create

perfect feel and avoid disturbing vibration.

DONIC BLOODWOOD 7 SENSO is an attacking blade of espe-

cially high quality. This is an exciting blade for the uncompromi-

sing attacker, due to the well balanced Senso – Technology.

This 7 ply top quality Swedish blade gives the player full initia-

tive when returning the ball without loss of control.

DONIC BLOODWOOD 5 is an allround plus blade which would

be classed as “Quick Allround”. The five carefully assorted plies

ensure an extremely good balance of speed, control and feel.

This is the quickest model in the new blade series. In its construction it is similar to the Waldner Legend Carbon, but differs slightly because of its somewhat thicker inner ply in combination with a high class Hinoki outer ply.It is a very fast carbon blade with great stiffness and almost impossible to break. The DONIC BURN series

The thermic treatment of the veneers makes for extremely high stability com-parable to features of high-quality tropi-cal woods. The blades are exposed to a temperature of 200 degrees centigrade for twenty four hours. This process hardens the wood and removes any humidity.

The resulting playing characteristics of these blades are therefore unique.

DONIC BURN OFF A stiff blade usually offers less control but this does not happen with DONIC BURN OFF. For a fast blade at 85 – 90 g it is relatively light and has an outstanding sweet spot. It won’t be top heavy even with heavy and hard rubbers.

DONIC BURN OFF - The OFF- Version is even more controllable and has better feel than the BURN OFF blade. In harmony with the thinner middle ply it is slightly more elastic and in combination with somewhat softer rub-bers imparts slightly more spin than the OFF version.At a weight of approximately 85 g this is a standard weight for a high quality offensive blade. This beautifully produced high class blade in DONIC’s series has a superb sweet spot.

DONIC BURN ALL+ The main priority in producing the Allround Plus Version of the DONIC Burn blade series has been to ensure ease of control and feel. The thinner Kiri centre ply of the DONIC BURN ALL+ offers greater control than the blades in the Offensive series. At 80 g this blade is highly suitable for players who prefer a lighter blade. The DONIC BURN ALL+ blade can also be used with harder attacking rubbers to produce fantastic speed.For an Allround blade this model is relatively stiff and combined with softer rubbers will develop plenty of spin.

The BURN Aratox RS version differs from normal BURN Aratox mainly through its outer ply. The harder mahogany blade makes it stiffer and more direct than the AR+ version. The blade’s playing character is most suitable for the OFF- category.

We have deliberately used a somewhat softer outer ply of Koto for the BURN Aratox, which offers greater control than Mahogany. This is a suitable blade for allround+ players who like to play a spinny game with soft rubber. This blade is, however, also suitable for a fast and dynamic game played with hard rubber.

DONIC EPOX System: Each blade a high quality originalDONIC EPOX series veneers are not glued with a liquid glue, but with a gluing coat of Epoxy resin.The five veneers with epoxy coating are pressed together adding heat for 20 minutes. During this process the epoxy coating liquefies and glues the veneers together.

The middle veneer and two intermediate layers consist of monoblade veneers. Only one-piece veneers are used in this monoblade technique. Other traditional techniques often use several pieces which are put together. This means each pressed veneer is only used for one blade resulting in a unique blade of high-quality.

The unique method of gluing the plies of the EPOX-blades with epoxy resin ensures their special rigidity. Depending on the particular ply formation, extra power and speed are achieved. The blade has superior control without unpleasant vibration.

The edges close to the handle are carefully rounded off. This is the main reason why each blade of the DONIC EPOX series is very easy to handle. Many players hold the handle differently for forehand and backhand shots. Due to the smooth, rounded handle, this presents no problems.

The main feature of the DONIC Alligator Combi blade is the difference in speed between the forehand and backhand playing sides. The AR+/Def+ blade is made of a 5-ply combination which has been carefully crafted to create perfect harmony between the different playing characteristics of each side. The core is made of soft Balsa wood which makes the blade very light and relatively stiff. On the forehand side, two harder and faster veneers are used, whereas for the backhand side somewhat softer and therefore slower veneers are used. The result is that outstanding power can be achieved when playing topspin shots with the forehand side and fantastic control is guaranteed when playing a defensive game away from the table with the backhand side. The DONIC Alligator Combi is unique in that it complements both defensive play away from the table and attacking strokes and blocks close to the table. Players who use disturbing rubber sheets such as Anti and long pimple rubbers will be especially amazed by the enhanced playing possibilities of this blade.

DONIC developed with the CAYMAN an extremely light and relatively fast all-round blade with high rigidity and excellent control. This blade is especially suitable for players using pimples out. The hard outer plies are particularly effective when using long or short pimples. Blocking and counter attacking become more dead-ly and more troublesome, especially for long pimpled players.

Players who used to like the sound and feeling of soft rubber sheets with speed glue prior to the glue ban can now reignite the joy and sensations with the series of SOFT rubber sheets. The versions Bluefire M2 and M3, Acuda S2 and S3, as well as Coppa X2 and X3 all belong to this new series. Without any volatile organic compounds (VOC) this water-based glue guarantees that the rubber sheet can be applied without any health risk. 5 · DONIC Easy Fix

The DONIC Easy Fix glue doesn’t include any volatile organic compounds (VOC) and complies with the ITTF regulations for table tennis glues. It is very clean and easy to apply due to the included brush (after glueing, please clean the brush with water). The main features of this glue are the relatively short drying period and a very good adhesion.

Due to the inbuilt speed glue effect FORMULA DONIC rubber sheets have increased tension which gives faster speed, higher spin and an improved bounce of the ball.

These high performance rubbers are more sensitive to outside influences and are more fragile than the classic rubber sheets, which have not been speed glued (e.g. DONIC Vario series). The lifespan of each FORMUA DONIC rubber sheet varies, naturally, with the type of player, type of rubber, strain on the rubber and care by the owner. The lifespan, however, is considerably high-er than that of the classic speed glued rubber sheet. Compared to an unglued classic rubber you can expect a lifespan of about 60 to 80 per cent.

Please note:

1. FORMULA rubber sheets should not be removed and glued again repeatedly.

2. The regular cleaning of the top sheet with VOC free DONIC cleaners or water is highly recommended.

3. The FORMULA DONIC rubber sheets should be protected against daylight or mechanical destruction by using the DONIC bat wallets.

4. Due to the higher tension of the FORMULA DONIC rubber sheets, the edges can break/crumble more easily. In order to avoid this, please use DONIC edge protection tape.

5. The bat must be protected against cold and heat. Particularly in midsummer and in win-ter you have to be careful that the bat with FORMULA DONIC rubber sheets is not expo-sed to very high or low temperatures. These extremes can cause the top sheet to become rough/brittle at low temperature and swell up at high temperature resulting in the life of the rubber being shortened. This means don’t leave your bat in your car or in too cold or hot rooms for a long time!
