March 2012
Dear Supporter,
College of Business graduates did very well in 2010-2011, which was fairly consistent with the prior year. Ninety-five percent (+1%) of all Business undergraduates were occupied; 88% (= %) were occupied in professional employment. Most of our measures are up in terms of employers on campus, interviews and student participation in events. Both parties are optimistic about hiring. We are pleased to provide you with data regarding the recruiting and career development activities of 2010-2011.
Our staff advised 1,969 (+5.2%) students/alums and made 100 (+1.0%) presentations. We reported 604 (+1.3%) students on internship sites. Our Fall and Spring Career Fairs attracted 123 (+7.0%) and 103 (+56.1%) employers respectively, with a cumulative total of 3,979 (+6.8%) student attendees. Fifty-nine percent of students remained in the state of Iowa for their professional pursuits, while 41% went outside of the state. This is up 1% for graduates remaining in-state for 2009-2010.
There are several sections in this report that may be of interest. They include; 1) top employers hiring our students, 2) a state-by-state list of the relocation activities of our graduates, 3) graduate schools attended, and 4) employment rates by major. We include a breakdown of professional school attendance as well. We are very pleased with the development of the use of ISU CMS, our computerized on-campus interviewing and database management system. This collaborative effort among colleges has given us greater exposure to employers and students and gives us a seamless appearance to those accessing ISU students for recruiting purposes. BUS AD 201 (Careers in Business) and BUS AD 202 (Professional Employment Preparation) are now required courses and our office is involved in the delivery and administration of these courses. We thank you for your continued support and look forward to reporting the successes of College of Business students and graduates in the future.
Best Wishes,
Kathy WielandDirectorBusiness Career Services

The data presented was collected in the following manner:
1) Direct response from graduating students2) Response from employers3) Response from faculty4) Information received from Undergraduate Programs submitted for graduation announcements 5) Phone calls made directly to graduates or their family six months after their graduating semester
Definition of Categories:
TEMPORARILY EMPLOYED; NOT SEEKING EMPLOYMENT indicates the graduates are working in a temporary position with the understanding it will turn into a permanent position.
EMPLOYED PROFESSIONALLY is defined as employment which requires a college degree. It does not always indicate employment in the graduated field of study.
TEMPORARILY EMPLOYED; STILL SEEKING PROFESSIONAL EMPLOYMENT indicates the graduates are working in a wide range of positions which do not require a college degree. This type of employment is often a carryover from work while in school.
SEEKING EMPLOYMENT indicates the graduate is unemployed and actively seeking professional employment.
NOT SEEKING EMPLOYMENT indicates the graduate is not entering the job market at this time.
NO REPLY indicates that despite our best efforts no contact was made to ascertain this individual’s employment status.
The two previous categories (NOT SEEKING EMPLOYMENT and NO REPLY) were not included in the statistical analysis to reflect a more realistic indicator of the employment status.
