NAJIA BAJI & GUESTS: WHAT WOULD BILLIE DO?

Conker Group, Eggs Collective & HOME present THEATRE DOUBLE BILL/ GUTTED & LATE NIGHT LOVE

DJS IN THE BAR

BOOK LAUNCH/ FEAR EATS THE SOUL

Claire Dorsett presents a series of new paintings on building materials, challenging what a painting is or could be. Cherry Tenneson presents a new series of drawings and paintings that function as interventional diagrams and signs throughout the public areas of HOME.

Inspired by the 1959 film of the same name, this exhibition considers the context of racial politics over the last fifteen years in the US and Europe. Including a new commission from Sophia Al-Maria and work from Michael Armitage, Kevin Beasley, Loulou Cherinet, Loretta Fahrenholz, Tony Lewis, Jayson Musson, Jacolby Satterwhite, Lauren Halsey, Jordan Casteel and Martine Syms.Curated by Omar Kholeif and Sarah Perks.

Experience  songs of love, loss and letting go, inspired by stories collected from HOME visitors by Najia Baji. Follow Najia, Rioghnach Connolly (Honeyfeet, The Breath) and Lis Murphy (The Glow) as they weave their musical performance through the building.

GUTTEDLiz has got an embarrassing problem and these Activia yogurts aren’t doing much. Her body’s acting up. In a bold new show produced as part of HOME’s opening studio season, The Conker Group and HOME present this shameless tale of love, laughter and lavatories. Inviting you on a journey of frank confessions, colourful characters and too much brown sauce, Gutted is based on solo performer Liz Richardson’s real life experiences as a twenty-something living with Ulcerative Colitis (similar to Crohn’s).Co-produced by The Conker Group and HOME. Supported by The Wellcome Trust People’s Award, IA: The Ileostomy & Internal Pouch Support Group, and Arts Council England.

LATE NIGHT LOVESomewhere in the static between radio stations, Eggs Collective present Late Night Love. Inspired by the confessional radio show of the same name, this tender and ridiculous show will clamber up your drainpipe with a rose between its teeth, ready to wrangle with the reality of romance and unpick the promise of power ballads.

Join us for the launch  of our new publication,  Fear Eats the Soul. Looking at how racial politics are performed in an evolving post-digital twenty-first century,  Fear Eats the Soul  is a tapestry of thoughts, concerns and emotions. Illustrated throughout, it contains contributions from Jackie Kay, Jacolby Satterwhite, Martine Syms, Monica B. Pearl, Omar Kholeif, Pamella Dlungwana, Sarah Perks, Sophia Al-Maria, Zach Blas, Zachary Cahill. The event will include readings from the book and refreshments, as well as an opportunity to buy at a discounted price.

The final release from legendary Japanese animation house Studio Ghibli before its hiatus, by the director of Arrietty, is a suitably nostalgic and overwhelmingly moving story, as well as another superb artistic achievement. Anna, a young girl and keen artist, is sent to live with relatives on the coast to recover from an illness. Out walking one day, she meets and befriends Marnie, who lives in an old mansion. With all the gentle, highly imaginative narrative complexity and visual grace that’s made the studio’s reputation, this is a beautiful, elegiac drama and  a fitting tribute to Ghibli’s filmography.

As part of the birthday celebrations, The Conker Group are offering a hands-on workshop to young creatives aged 15-25 inspired by upcoming HOME co-production  Gutted.Gutted is a  shameless tale of love, laughter and lavatories,  based on performer Liz Richardson’s real life experience of living with Ulcerative  Colitis (similar to Crohn’s Disease).  But if this sounds heavy, DO NOT FEAR! The show’s main aim is to get people laughing whilst thinking about the things  we avoid talking about and why we avoid talking about them.  Fun is high on the agenda for this workshop!A one-off chance to learn from the show’s creators Liz, and director/writer Tara Robinson, the workshop will mix improvisation, discussion and play.

HOME’s birthday weekend Artist in Residence, Nicola Dale, will introduce you to the techniques she’s going to be using to create our Birthday staircase sculpture.

Artist Nicola Dale will be in residence all weekend creating a spectacular sculpture that will cascade down HOME’s feature staircase. Come along and help her to create it!
