Background
• Multiple connectivity technologies are needed due to the wide variety of applications, regions, environments and topologies.
• Each of these different technologies has a unique interface to higher layer entities.
• Software and hardware design complexities in multi-connectivity devices.
Goal
• Provide a common interface to widely deployed home networking technologies.

1905.1 MAC Addressing
• Between 1905.1 Devices, MAC Service Data Units (MSDU) and CTRL Message Data Units (CMDU) are sent over the 1905.1 network using 1905.1 AL MAC Address as DA.
• Underlying interfaces may communicate using their generic MAC addresses for control purposes.

Features
• Topology discovery: query(unicast), response(unicast), notification(relayed multicast)
• Security setup: push button configuration, user configured passphrase/key, near-field communication network key
• Access point auto-configuration: The AP autoconfiguration process uses CMDUs to convey IEEE 802.11 parameters from a registrar to an AP enrollee to set up the initial configuration or renew an existing configuration of an IEEE 802.11 interface.
Main Use Cases
• Multipath delivery
• Range Extension

Summary of Benefits
• Ease of Use: Use common setup procedures for adding devices to a network, establishing secure links, implementing QoS, and managing the network.
• Fallback: When a link goes down temporarily or is congested, an alternative route is available.
• Aggregated Throughput: Use multiple interfaces for maximizing throughput.
• Multiple Simultaneous Streams: With applications such as interactive TV, even a single person may be watching multiple streams simultaneously.
Summary of Benefits
• Load Balancing: Intelligently distribute multiple video streams over different paths to limit congestion and maintain reliability.
• QoS: Uniformed Prioritized QoS over multiple technologies.
• Security: 1905.1 allows devices to be configured the same way with a simple button push, for example.
• Advanced Diagnostics: The overall network monitors itself.
• Mobility: Wireless connectivity supports mobile handsets, and tablets.
• Universal Connectivity: Can connect to the hybrid network from every room in the house without having to be aware of which part of the network their device is currently interfacing.
