Michael William Klenkage 20, of Kettering, lost his 20year battle with Cystic Fibrosis onTuesday, December 16, 2008 atBarnes-Jewish Hospital in St.Louis, Missouri. Michael was amember of Christ UnitedMethodist Church in Kettering. Hewas a 2006 graduate of FairmontHigh School and attended MiamiUniversity in Oxford. Michael wasa member of the Fairmont footballand baseball teams and receivedhis varsity lettered in both.Fairmont football coaches honoredhim by establishing the “MichaelWilliam Klenk Award”. This awardhonors the recipient who shows thecharacteristics of “Selflessness,Loyalty, Dedication &

Commitment” to FairmontFootball. He started his football &baseball with the FKAL and wasalso a member of the KABC base-ball traveling team, better knownas the “Dream Team.” Michael issurvived by his parents, Susan andRon Klenk; sister, Erin Klenk ofCincinnati and her close friendJared Molden; brother, RobertKlenk of Ashland, OH; grand-mother, Bernice L. Daniel Jacobs torethrough opponents with a pin, twotechs and a decision in toughmatches accompanied with anoth-er gripping pin from Pat Debrosse- all of which crystallized firstplace at 119. Brandon Bustillodestroyed his competition by pin-ning three stunned challengers,

surgically tech’ing a fourth andaccepted a forfeit to dominate withfive wins at 125. Alex Kooser,who was robbed of Gold last weekat Fairmont due to tie break crite-ria, made up for it this week byhammering his opponents andsecuring first place with a pin, twotechnical falls and two byes at 130pounds. At 145 pounds, seniorJosh Hootman slammed his oppo-nents with four grueling pins andbeat the fifth opponent by decisionin astonishing consecutive winsthat went on all day long. Andfinally, Andrew Raichle grabbedGold at 189 with two stylish pins,a win by decision and two forfeits.All seven gold medal finishescame from hard battles and deter-mination for deserved victories ineach spot. Congratulations men!

The day yielded other highhonors including silver medals forWill LeBoeuf at 135, MaxBriedenbach / Cameron Weddingat 171, and Jake Horlacher at 285,who all battled hard throughoutthe day. Bronze medals went out toJameson Kordik at 140, DanKendig at 152, and Noah Robertsat 215 pounds, all of which threwdown opponents in stiff competi-tion. Co-captain Paul Hochwaltdid not compete due to an injury.

All told, this was an absolutelyamazing performance by our Jacksled by a great coaching staff.Varsity wrestlers will competeagain Friday, Jan. 2, 2009 at noonat Home where they will hostCarroll High School in dual com-petition. Come on out and join theexcitement!
