1 Founded in 1974, PII manufactures and sells air classifiers,
media mills, impact mills, roller mills and ball mills. With over
300 machines in more than 32 different countries, we are a global
leader in fine and ultra-fine grinding and sizing of dry
powders.

3 Understanding Air Classification Air Classification is an
important unit of operation in processing dry powders. The need for
improved air classification was also driven by the need for
improvements in product quality, such as product uniformity and for
finer and better controlled products. These innovative and improved
designs are referred to as High Efficiency Classifiers. High
efficiency classifiers tend to be more sensitive to changes in the
process such as rotor speed, air flow, and particularly feed rate.
Dispersion of particles is of the utmost importance in achieving
efficient classification. The classifier must have the ability to
disperse the feed material. For example, if a classifier lacks the
ability to create enough centrifugal spin around the rotor to get
adequate particle segregation, or if it lacks the ability to keep
particles in suspension long enough to be classified, then
efficient classification will not occur. Click Mouse to move to

4 Optimization of the feed rate, which combined with proper air
flow, air particle velocity and rotor speed, will result in optimum
classification efficiency. Product fineness is controlled by
increasing/decreasing rotor speed. Increasing/decreasing feed rates
as well as increasing/decreasing air flows will also affect the
fineness of your product but could greatly reduce your efficiency.
Product fineness should not be controlled by changing your
air-to-solids ratio (through air flow or feed rate adjustments)
