Sunshine ClubThere is room on the Sunshine
Club’s trips to the Addams Family Musical and to the Newport Playhouse. The spaces for these won’t last, so don’t wait to make plans! Show trips are always very popular! We have excellent orchestra seats for the Addams Family -- 5th row and back at the front of the theatre. So at $82. for a Saturday matinee including the bus and lunch, it’s a great
deal!! Usually you have to go mid-week for better pricing! So plan to join us November 7 for a ride to Manchester, NH to enjoy a fun show! It’s a good opportunity to bring friends or children who normally work during the week! The TV show was actually only on for 2 years, but because of reruns, it was a big part of “baby boomers” lives! The broadway show has received great reviews! The Palace Theatre is celebrating their 100th anniversary this year, so it’s a great time to celebrate with them for such a milestone!! The Newport Playhouse continues to be popular because of the fun shows including the cabaret and the fantastic all-you-can-eat buf-
fet! That’s Dec. 1 for $74., also a great price! All Sunshine Club trips depart from the Westborough Senior Center. Please call Sue at 508-476-5820 for more informa-tion.
How To Write Great College Essays
The Westborough Public Library presents, “How to Write Great College Essays” by Meg Mahoney on Tuesday, Oct. 13, 2015 at 7 p.m. Registration is required.
Many great kids write aver-age (even bad) college essays—essays about “life lessons learned from football” or “how my trip
to Europe broadened my cultural horizons.” Better tales are there for the writing. This workshop will show you what admissions officers really look for in great college essays, and offer sugges-tions for finding and sharing your best stories. We’ll even share the five most over-used topics you must avoid and give you tips on how to finish your essay long before application deadlines.
Incoming high school seniors should be working on their essays over the summer vacation so this is the perfect time to get some pointers.
Meg Mahoney is an Assistant College Counselor at Collegewise in Newton. Meg earned a Master’s in school guidance counseling from UMass Boston and has certification in college counseling from UCLA and is a licensed school counselor in Massachusetts. She has also served as an application reader for Bentley University.
This program is free and open to the public. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to improve your college application essay! Register online at www.westbor-oughlib.org or call the library at 508-366-3050 to register.

Unique Concert Video On Local Cable
During the months of September and October 2015 the communities of Berlin, Bolton, Boylston, Clinton, Holden, Hudson, Lancaster, Marlborough, Northborough, Shrewsbury, Southborough, Sterling, West Boylston, Westborough and Worcester will include in their local cable TVschedules show-ings of a professionally prepared video of “Annelies”, a dramatic oratorio based on the “Diary of Anne Frank.” Composer James Whitbourn and librettist Melanie Challenger collaborated in 2005 to create a sympathetic reflection of Anne’s written words, in which excerpts of her diary are woven together--- peaceful peeks of nature from her window contrast-ing with her sorrowful awareness of hungry children, Jews being arrested, and her fear of the fam-ily’s capture, in addition to the sound of nearby church bells and folk songs remembered from her childhood. Particularly effective is the use of an extensive percus-sion section in the full orchestra accompanying the Assabet Valley Mastersingers with Artistic Director Robert P. Eaton.
Enjoyment of the concert may be enhanced by printing the words to be found online by search-ing ‘Annelies text’. Soprano Lynn Eustis flawlessly voices Anne’s thoughts without benefit of a score at hand. Members of the Shir Joy Chorus of Westborough (Wendy Damoulakis, Director) sing portions of the concert with AVM. A brief introduction to the video by Dr. Joshua Jacobson of Northeastern University adds insight and includes a virtual tour
of the Frank family’s hiding place for two years in Amsterdam. In the time between the 13th and 15th birthdays of Annelies Marie Frank she never allowed herself to lose hope in the basic goodness of people and could still find joy in the glimpse of a blue sky above.
Tom Morgan of Westborough WTV is videographer and pro-ducer in collaboration with Josef Reznicek of Bostonia Records for sound recording. Information about Assabet Valley Mastersingers may be found at www.AVMsingers.org or by call-ing (978) 562-9838.

Hidden Gems of New England
The Westborough Public Library presents, “Hidden Gems of New England”, a slide pre-sentation, with authors Michael Tougias and Alison O’Leary on
Wednesday, October 7, 2015 at 7 p.m.
Have you ever wandered through the woods and wondered who’d been there before? New England’s woods and wild places are full of stories: cannibalism in Vermont, Thoreau’s cold and lonely night on Massachusetts’ Mt. Greylock, and an Eskimo in New Hampshire. Based on the new book, “Inns and Adventures: A History and Explorer’s Guide to Vermont, New Hampshire and the Berkshires”, Hidden Gems of New England takes audiences on virtual trips over mountains and through back roads. Find out about secluded swimming holes, old growth forests, sites of hos-
tage takings, historic land uses and conservation efforts, adven-ture tourism, stunning vistas, and cozy inns.
Michael Tougias is author of “There’s a Porcupine in my Outhouse”, winner of Best Nature Book of the Year, as well as sever-al Best Day Hike titles published by the Appalachian Mountain Club Press. Alison O’Leary is an award-winning travel writer and journalist. Copies of their books will be available for purchase and autographing.
This program is free and open to the public. For more informa-tion, call the library at 508-366-3050.

Sudoku
Here’s How It Works: Sudoku puzzles are formatted as a 9x9 grid, broken down into nine 3x3 boxes. To solve a sudoku, the numbers 1 through 9 must fill each row, column and box. Each number can appear only once in each row, column and box. You can figure out the order in which the numbers will appear by using the numeric clues already provided in the boxes. The more numbers you name, the easier it gets to solve the puzzle!
Fun By The NumbersLike puzzles? Then you’ll love sudoku. This mind-bending puzzle will have you hooked from the moment you square off, so sharpen your pencil and put your sudoku savvy to the test!

Frozen Foods Can Calm Hectic Schedules (NAPSA)-The change of sea-
sons can be an exciting time:
Football is in full swing, nature’s
fireworks are on display and the
hazy heat has faded into cool,
crisp weather. But as great as fall
can be, it also means it’s time
to get back to reality and busy
schedules.
Fortunately, with all the deli-
cious selections now available in
the frozen food aisles, it’s easier
to make it through your hectic
week. And maybe more impor-
tant, they make it easier to find
time to relax while still enjoying
an appetizing spread of refresh-
ments.
• Breakfast can be hassle-free if
you opt for frozen foods. Waffles,
breakfast pastries, bagels and
juices can get the day started
right, with no time wasted.
• Pizza bites are just one exam-
ple of a great heat-and-eat snack
option that will hold you over
until dinner.
• Whether you’re entertaining
guests or just keeping it low-key,
whip up a spread of appetizers
that will satisfy your snack crav-
ings without missing a minute of
the game. With options such as
frozen pizzas, wings, dips, chick-
en tenders, mozzarella sticks,
spicy cheese bites and hot pock-
ets, there’s something for every-
one. Celebrate after the game with
desserts such as pies, cakes and
ice cream.
Here’s a great recipe that will
excite football fans everywhere:
Cocktail Meatballs
12 oz. chili sauce
12 oz. grape jelly
1 package (38 oz.) frozen meat-
balls
In a saucepan, mix chili sauce
and grape jelly; heat and stir until
smooth. Add meatballs, cook for
approximately 20 minutes, stir-
ring occasionally. Transfer to a
serving dish and enjoy.

Sudbury Valley Trustees Annual
Meeting At its 62nd Annual Meeting,
Sudbury Valley Trustees will honor several local conservation-ists for their significant contribu-tions to the protection of open spaces and wildlife habitats in this region. The meeting will begin at 6:45 pm on Thursday, October 1, at SVT’s Wolbach Farm headquarters, 18 Wolbach Road, Sudbury. Business spon-sors of the meeting include Capital Group Properties and Middlesex Savings Bank.
SVT’s annual awards program recognizes volunteer efforts in support of SVT’s work as well as a broad dedication to conservation throughout the region surrounding the Sudbury, Assabet, and Concord Rivers. Bill Fadden of Framingham will receive the Lewis Conservation Award for his contribution to conservation efforts through-out eastern Massachusetts. Fadden, an Associate Member of the Framingham Conservation Commission, actively volunteers his time to build and maintain trails and monitor properties for
numerous conservation orga-nizations, including SVT, the Bay Circuit Alliance, and the Appalachian Mountain Club.
The Distinguished Public Service award is being presented to Kathy Joubert, Town Planner for Northborough, for her tire-less commitment to making a positive impact on the environ-ment through her work. Joubert has been an invaluable resource to SVT and its partners in the Tri-Town Landscape Protection project as they work to protect over 500 acres of land in Berlin, Boylston, and Northborough.
David Sette-Ducati of Sudbury has been named recipient of the Morgan Volunteer Award, which recognizes an SVT volunteer who has given freely of his or her time and talents. Sette-Ducati has spent countless hours sup-porting the SVT staff to ensure the organization has the financial foundation to fulfill its land con-servation and wildlife protection mission.
The Steward of the Land award will be given to Larry Todd of Framingham, an SVT member who has been a model land steward. Each month, regardless of the weather condi-tions, Todd spends many hours
on SVT properties, where he maps and marks property bound-aries and monitors and maintains trails.
Finally, Boy Scout Troop 100 of Westborough will receive the Youth Steward Award, which recognizes exceptional service by an individual youth or a youth group in support of SVT’s conservation efforts. For the past 10 years, Troop 100 has maintained the Walkup and Robinson Memorial Reservation in Westborough, where scouts have managed invasive plant species, maintained trails, and cleared downed limbs following major storms.
During the business portion of the meeting, SVT Executive Director Lisa Vernegaard will highlight the organization’s successes during the past year and will discuss other conser-vation efforts now underway. The guest speaker at the meeting will be Andy Finton, Director of Science and Conservation, The Nature Conservancy, who will discuss, “Defining Success, What’s next for Conservation in Massachusetts.” The public is invited to attend. Refreshments will be served from 6:45 until 7:30, when the business meet-
ing and award presentation will commence.
Sudbury Valley Trustees and nearly 3000 members protect and care for land and wildlife habitat in 36 communities sur-rounding the Concord, Assabet, and Sudbury Rivers. For more information on SVT’s conser-vation work or programs, visit www.svtweb.org.
