April 16, 2017Easter Sunday "The Resurrection of the Lord"
ALLELUIA!
Today's gospel reading is one that never grows old or boring, because it is a story of such sharp contrasts. Dark becomes light; weeping turns to joy; despair changes into hope. If you were to sum up Easter in one word, it would be "transformation."
Just think about the disciples. In the weeks and months after the resurrection, they found themselves doing things they could never have imagined. Take Peter in today's first reading: He was the one who a few days earlier had denied even knowing Jesus and was now fearlessly proclaiming his lordship. For all the disciples, life would never be the same again. Their encounter with the risen Christ had changed them forever.
Each time we gather to celebrate the Eucharist, Jesus is in our midst, just as surely as he was for Mary Magdalene and the disciples on that first Easter morning. Our faith in the real presence assures us of this. And just as their encounter with the risen Lord changed the disciples' lives forever, we too should never leave any celebration of the Eucharist unchanged. We receive his Body and Blood so that, nourished and transformed we can go forth to love and serve the Lord and one another. Alleluia! Alleluia!
KNIGHTS NEWS
HAPPY EASTER! Please pray for a generous increase in vocations to the priesthood and to the consecrated life.
All parishioners and their guests are invited to join us for the recitation of the 5TH Sunday Rosary at St. Peter Church about 15 minutes after the 4:00 PM Mass on Saturday, April 29 or at St. Alphonsus Church on Sunday, April 30 at 7:20 AM.
Thank You to all who contributed to last weekend's drive to help the Mentally Impaired. A special "Thank You" goes out to all Knights and their family members who helped collect the much needed donations for this worthy case. Bravo!
All Knights, past and present, and their family members, all members of the Music Ministry and Religious Ed teachers and all other friends are invited to a dinner and "going away" party for Ron and Karen on Sunday, April 30 after the 11:00 AM Mass.
We have a very important planning meeting on Thursday, April 20, 7:00 PM, and all Officers, Directors, and Knights are encouraged to attend. We will be setting our calendar of events for the 2017-2018 fraternal year and your input is needed. The upcoming April 30 party will be discussed, too. The April 22 Euchre Night is canceled. Thanks to all for a great year of euchre.
LET’S TALK LITURGYby Margaret O’Malley
Easter, the yearly celebration of the Resurrection of Christ is the oldest and most solemn Christian feast and it is the center of our liturgical or church year. Everything that we do on every other Sunday of the year has its roots in the celebration of the Triduum, the three days of Holy Thursday, Good Friday, the Easter Vigil and Easter Sunday.
The importance of Easter is emphasized by the long season of preparation of Lent, the ceremonies of Holy Week and the Easter Season which follows and runs all the way to Pentecost Sunday. The importance of the Easter Season is marked by the return of the Alleluia before the Gospel and in the hymns we sing. We have ‘fasted’ from Alleluias for the entire Lenten season! Make sure you are smiling while you are singing those Alleluias! We have much to be grateful for!
You may also notice that the Paschal or Easter Candle will remain for the entire season. During the rest of the year the candle is lit during baptisms and funerals as a reminder of baptism being our rebirth into the Life of the Church. During the Easter Season it burns as we recall the events of the early church – as we continue to remember our early ‘family history’!
This is the day the Lord has made – let us rejoice and be glad! Happy Easter!

WELCOME NICOLAS!
Nicolas Martinez is celebrating the sacrament of Confirmation at our Easter Vigil. A Blissfield resident and BHS grad, he moved there in elementary school. He currently attends Eastern Michigan University and will graduate with a major in communications and minors in accounting, marketing, and computer science. In August Nicolas will be united in marriage with Sara Shields. We would like to recognize Brad Payne, Peg Goetz, Jennifer Staelgraeve, and Stefano and Cindy Zanger who teamed up with Doug Gillies to lead the RCIA sessions this year; and also Mark & Colette Studnicka and Margaret O’Malley who presented one topic each; and Leanne Payne who planned and coordinated the reception Saturday evening.
