What is an ankle sprain? An ankle sprain is a common injury to
the ankle joint It occurs when someone rolls their ankle past their
normal degree of movement Most often this happens as a result of
tripping, jumping and landing on an uneven surface, or slipping on
wet ground Common symptoms of an ankle sprain are swelling,
bruising, pain, soreness, and stiffness

Caring for an ankle sprain The first step in managing an ankle
sprain is rest Its very important to apply ice once you have
assessed the injury The third crucial step when taking care of an
ankle sprain is compression An elastic bandage works well for
compression To reduce swelling, you must also elevate the ankle by
propping it up on a pillow, box etc.
