This map illustrates areas of satellite-detecteddestroyed or otherwise damaged settlementsin Buthidaung, Maungdaw, and RathedaungTownships in Northern Rakhine State inMyanmar. Analysis primarily used satelliteimagery collected on multiple dates fromAugust 2017 to March 2018. Satellite analysiscombined with information on settlementlocations in Myanmar indicate thatapproximately 392 towns and villages from atotal number of 993 were affected. Thisincludes 96 out of 371 in Buthidaung, 277 outof 399 in Maungdaw, and 19 out of 223 inRathedaung. Note that a sample of theselocations are illustrated on the map due to thelimitations of the map size and scale.UNOSAT performed an estimation of thenumber of destroyed structures in the 392affected settlements based on the structurecount in a sample of representative areas.UNOSAT estimates that approximately 37,700structures were destroyed in the affectedtownships between 25 August 2017 and 18March 2018, with an estimation error ofapproximately 10%.
