Dear Families and Friends,
As we continue Remote Learning our teachers and families are refining processes and understandings of this new learning environment. This has been an enormous learning curve not only for us but for the education system as a whole.
We take our directives from the DET and the message remains clear – if you can learn from home, you must learn from home. Should this message change after May 11th we will communicate with our community as soon as we have the right information.
Despite the challenges we are all facing there has also been a wonderful focus on caring for each other and caring for our community. The incredible commitment we have seen from families who are learning with and alongside their children is inspiring, also the teachers/staff who have acted above and beyond to engage with our community these past weeks.
Whatever happens during term 2 we know that we will have new appreciations from this time. As one parent recently emailed me and said “you get out what you put in”. This sums up so many things for all of us right now and how important it is to nurture a GRIT mindset – the ability to persevere when things become tough.
As we continue our whole school Inquiry – What’s My Impact? I encourage all families to watch this mockumentary – The Majestic Plastic Bag with your family. Watching together is an opportunity to create discussion and talk about children’s ideas about the world. We will also be posting this activity to Seesaw and we will invite families to share their ideas next week via Facebook www.facebook.com/MtPleasps
Some ideas to get things going:
Thought starter: Could you live without plastic?
Watch this video below and answer the questions below.
As you are watching, make a note of the things that you find interesting, important, or insightful.
After you have watched think of three things that you regularly use that are made of plastic - what would you use instead of these items?

We are all looking forward to learning more about our impact both globally and locally.
Take care,
Kate Robinson Principal

Year 1/2 Update
With the inquiry topic ‘What’s my Impact?’ Year 1/2 are focusing on the Ocean/Sea. Our learnings last week
were based around Penguins, Penguins and more Penguins!!! Students listened and read the book ‘Lost and
Found’ by Oliver Jeffers, summarising Lost and Found in a digital puppet retell, completed a directed drawing
of a Penguin, labelled the different parts of a penguin and learnt different facts about penguins (one student
wrote and draw the fact about ‘reguratation’ which made me smile). Watching the ‘Penguin cam’ at the
Melbourne Zoo was also a hit. Here is the link if you would like to see them: Watch Penguin Cam at the Melbourne
Zoo https://youtu.be/mSI7phzCec8 (feeding time are 3-4pm (please not the feeding times are subject to change).
Don’t forget the importance of a brain break or two throughtout the day. This could be mindfulness colouring,
running around the backyard or doing star jumps.Year 1/2 and their parent/carer/sibling, please email or
respond on See Saw with any questions you might have – I’m only a click away.

MUSIC LESSONS REMOTELY
Congratulations and well done to our wonderful students who have
been participating in music lessons with Karen Cox remotely. They
have been practising extremely hard and improving with leaps and
bounds.
Whole School Landscape Mural
Thank you to everyone who created something for the mural habitat. It is looking much more alive and
beautiful! Can you spot a group of turtles swimming in the water, a zebra in the distance, a sloth, two giraffes,
some foxes, some bears, a Venus fly trap, a dodo bird, some cats, a lady bug, pigs, fish, penguins and a joey
hiding in some beautiful plants? There are so many animals that I think we will need some more plants for
them to survive. If you have any spare time and want to create some plants for food or trees for shelter and
send in a photo, the animals would be very appreciative.

Year 6 update
The students in year 6 continue to demonstrate their maturity and resilience which is reflected in the learning and
outstanding work they have produced at home and on Seesaw.
This past week the students have been learning about the text features of an information report and some have created
their own anchor charts (posters) for their learning space at home. As we explore various informational texts on
animals and their environment, the students are learning to think about what they’re reading, identify the key points
and summarise text in their own words.

Some students have already submitted their passion projects
which show a wonderful and diverse range of interests in the
classroom. Some of the passion projects have been about
Rainbows, Yu-Gi-Oh summoning, Photography and Forza
Horizon (just to name a few!).
It’s also been amazing to see students
finding ways to challenge themselves at
home. Here’s a pic of Noah being a scientist
and pulling things apart to build a working
generator and Bryce, the CEO, in his short
movie for a Visual Arts project.
I’ll leave you with some meme’s the students
created last week. Please email or respond on
Seesaw with any questions you might have – I’m
just a click away.
